Ternary tellurite based glasses [(TeO2)0.7 (B2O3)0.3]1-x (Bi2O3)x was prepared by melt quenching method with suitable melting and quenching temperature. A series of glasses were selected from 0.05 to 0.30 mol % and its glass-forming region was determined. The density, molar volume and refractive index increase when bismuth ions Bi3+ increase, this is due to the increased polarization of the ions Bi3+ and the enhanced formation of non-bridging oxygen (NBO). The values of optical band gap, Eopt decreases when Bi2O3 content increases. Urbach energy for each composition was also calculated and was found to be dependent on the glass composition.

Modifying the optical properties of rare earth doped phosphate glasses in a tunable fashion via the embedment of magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) is challenging for magneto-optic devices. Glasses with compositions (69-x)P2O5-30ZnO-1Er2O3-(x)Fe3O4, where x = 0 to 1.5 mol% are prepared by conventional melt quenching method. The Fe3O4NPs concentration dependent density, molar volume, refractive index and optical properties are determined. Density and molar volume shows strong correlation with structural alteration in the presence of NPs. The XRD spectra confirm the disordered nature of the glass and TEM micrograph display the presence of spherical NPs with average size ~26 nm. The optical band gap and Urbach energy calculated from the room temperature absorption spectra recorded in the range of 350-1700 nm reveal significant improvement. The density and refractive index increases and the molar volume decreases with the increase of Fe3O4contents. The energy band gap for direct and indirect transitions varies in the range of 4.47-3.64 eV and 4.27-3.53 eV, respectively. The Urbach energy increases from 0.15 to 0.19 eV as the NPs concentration increases from 0 to 1.5 mol%.

A series of zinc oxychloride tellurite glass based on (79 – z) TeO2- 10ZnO - (z) ZnCl2- 10Li2O - 1Eu2O3(where z = 0, 10, 20, 25 and 30 mol %) are successfully prepared by the melt quenching method. The optical properties are characterized by means of Raman spectra, UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy. It is found that the Raman spectrum of the glass shows three main peaks in the vibrational band in the vicinity of 430, 670 and 770 cm-1. The intensity of all bands is decreased as the ZnCl2contents are increased from 0 to 30 mol % but the intensity ratio (I770/ I670) increased. This may arise from the change in the structural chains from TeO4to TeO3+1or to a TeO3polyhedron shape. Using the UV-Vis absorption spectrum, the Judd-Ofelt (J-O) analysis is performed to determine the J-O parameters (Ω2, Ω4, Ω6) and it is found that Ω2> Ω4> Ω6. The values of Ω2, Ω4, Ω6, the quality factor (Q) and the radiative lifetime (τrad) are found to increase with ZnCl2content up to 20 mol %. From photoluminescence spectrum, it is found that the value of the intensity ratio between5D0→7F2and5D0→7F1transition increase with ZnCl2contents which illustrates that this glass can easily become laser material.

This study aims to determine the optical and physical properties of TZBN:Nd glass with the composition (mol%) 60TeO2-2Bi2O3-(34-x)ZnO-4Na2O-xNd2O3 with variation of doping x = 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0. Fabrication has been done by using the melt-quenching technique. Characterization of tellurite glass covering density, refractive index and absorption spectrum of glass. Density of glass have been measured using the Archimedes method. Refractive index of glass have been measured using the Brewster angle at wavelength 746.191 nm. Absorption spectrum measurements using UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer Perkin Elmer Lambda 25 in the region of 200-1100 nm. The results of characterization show that density / physical characteristics of glass did not increase when the concentration of ions Nd3+ to TZBN:Nd glass increased. The refractive index of glass will increase as the concentration of ions Nd3+ to TZBN:Nd glass increased. Based on the results of UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy measurements shows that there are nine significant spectra have been observed in the region of 200-1100 nm, such as at a wavelength of 431 nm, 474 nm, 515 nm, 527 nm, 585 nm, 684 nm, 749 nm, 805 nm, and 878 nm and the highest absorption peak is at a wavelength of 585 nm.

The Dy3+ doped Y2O3-CaO-SiO2-B2O3 glasses with molar composition 25Y2O3 : 10CaO : 10SiO2 : (55-x)B2O3, where x is 0.0 to 0.5 mol%, have been prepared by melt quenching method and are characterized through absorption, photoluminescence and decay analysis. From the luminescent spectra, observed a strong yellow and blue emission from 4F9/2→ 6H13/2 (575 nm) and 4F9/2 → 6H15/2 (482 nm) transition of Dy3+ ions respectively. The tunable white light emission at different excitation wavelengths are investigated through CIE 1931 diagram. The decay curves show the decreasing of lifetimes when addition of Dy2O3 concentration.

Abstract A borate glasses doped with rare earth Gd3+ ion in the system [6OB2O3 + 30 L12O + x Gd2O3 + (10-x) BiCl3] is prepared by the conventional melt quenching method and their optical properties have been studied. The oxide ion polarizability parameter is calculating by using refractive index of glass materials, which is obtained from UV-Vis spectra. The borate glasses are known to possess high oxide ion polarizability, high refractive index, high basicity and low interaction parameter values. In this present study, theoretical calculation of basicity and interaction parameter, using oxide ion polarization, of the glass network has been addressed. A good linear correlation between the interaction parameter and basicity is observed.

The glasses with the composition of xEr 2 O 3 -5AgCl- 15MoO 3 -(80-x) TeO 2 (x = 0, 0.5 and 1 mol%, named as SMT0, SMT1 and SMT2, respectively) were synthesized using conventional melt quenching method and their optical properties were investigated through UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Density and molar volume values of the glass samples were estimated, their values were found in the range from 5.52 to 5.64 g/cm 3 and 27.737 to 28.689 cm 3 , respectively. The UV absorption spectra were recorded at room temperature in the wavelength range 200-1100nm. From the absorption edge data, it is found that both the direct and indirect type transitions may takeplace. The direct and indirect band gap values are ranging from 1.92 to 2.29 eV and 1.24 to 1.77 eV, respectively. Also, the Urbach energy (E tail ) values were determined and their values are ranging from 0.33 to 0.54 eV. These obtained E tail values are well matched with amorphous semiconductors (0.046 to 0.66 eV).
