This paper proposes the elliptical-shaped based on two-dimensional Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) plasmonic waveguide configuration with the sensor characteristics simulated by Finite-Element-Method (FEM). Temperature, refractive index, and pressure are evaluated in the structure by considering the transmission spectrum. As the temperature and refractive index increase, the corresponding curves shift to the right wavelengths. Simulation results show that resonant wavelength of nanocavity shifts to lower wavelength with increasing the pressure. It can be seen that the resonance curves between 1300nm to 1400nm are sharper than the other wavelengths in this structure. The sensitivity and the Figure of Merit (FOM) can be evaluated by considering the mentioned equations. The proposed structure could be applied to develop resonator applications with high sensitivity and tunable response.

The bio-oil obtained by pyrolysis of Açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) seeds at 450 ºC, 1.0 atmosphere, in technical scale, submitted to fractional distillation to produce biofuels-like fractions. The distillation of bio-oil carried out in a laboratory distillation column (Vigreux) of 30 cm. The physical-chemistry properties (density, kinematic viscosity, acid value and refractive index) determined by official methods. The chemical functions present in distillation fractions determined by FT-IR and the chemical composition by GC-MS. The distillation of bio-oil yielded gasoline, light kerosene, and kerosene-like fuel fractions of 16.16, 19.56, and 41.89% (wt.), respectively. All the physical-chemistry properties (density, kinematic viscosity, acid value and refractive index) increase with boiling temperature. The gasoline-like fraction is composed by 64.0% (area.) hydrocarbons and 36.0% (area.) oxygenates, while light kerosene-like fraction by 66.67% (area.) hydrocarbons and 33.33% (area.) oxygenates, and kerosene-like fraction by 19.87% (area.) hydrocarbons and 81.13% (area.) oxygenates.

The effect of ion-beam treatment, alternating with the magnetron sputtering process, on the properties zinc oxide of thin films is considered. Ion-beam treatment causes a decrease in the growth rate, the size of the coherent scattering regions and resistivity. The stoichiometric index, the band gap and the refractive index increase. The transparency of the films in the area of weak absorption does not change.

Lutetuim calcium silico borates (LuCaSiB) glasses doped with Nd3+ ions with molar composition of Lu2O3-CaO-SiO2-B2O3-Nd2O3 have been prepared by conventional melt quenching technique. Their properties have been evaluated throughout the density, refractive index, absorption and emission measurements. The density, molar volume and refractive index increase with increasing Nd2O3 concentration. The optical absorption spectra show twelve bands in visible and near infrared regions. The luminescence spectra exhibit three emission bands were observed at 900, 1072 and 1341 nm corresponding to 4F3/2 → 4I9/2, 4I11/2 and 4I13/2 transition respectively.

A series of glasses with nominal composition in (53-x)B2O3:11SiO2:34SrO:1Bi2O3:1TiO2: xHo2O3 (BSSBT) where x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 mol% was synthesized by conventional melt quenching method. The as-prepared glasses have been investigated and reported for their physical and optical properties. The results show that, the densities and refractive index increase with increasing Ho2O3 content in the glasses. The absorption peaks of doped glasses were observed at a wavelength of around 420, 460, 480, 540, 640 and 900 nm which are assigned to 5I8 ® 5G5, 5G6, 5F3, (5F4+5S2), 5F5 and 5I5 transitions of Ho3+, respectively.

Ternary tellurite based glasses [(TeO2)0.7 (B2O3)0.3]1-x (Bi2O3)x was prepared by melt quenching method with suitable melting and quenching temperature. A series of glasses were selected from 0.05 to 0.30 mol % and its glass-forming region was determined. The density, molar volume and refractive index increase when bismuth ions Bi3+ increase, this is due to the increased polarization of the ions Bi3+ and the enhanced formation of non-bridging oxygen (NBO). The values of optical band gap, Eopt decreases when Bi2O3 content increases. Urbach energy for each composition was also calculated and was found to be dependent on the glass composition.

The electronic structure and optical properties of V-doped CrSi2 have been calculated by using the first-principle peudo-potential plane-wave method based on the density functional theory. The parameters and properties of structure were given and the theory data were offered to research the effect of V doping into CrSi2. The calculations of energy band structure, total density of states, partial density of states of V-doped CrSi2were analysed. Fermi level enters into valence band which makes the V-doped CrSi2to be p-type semiconductor that improves the electrical conductivity of material. Additionally, the optical parameters of V-doped CrSi2were also discussed. It was found that both static dielectric constant and static refractive index increase after doping.
