The adaptation of universities to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) plays an essential role in society, creating new knowledge, transferring it to students by means of new and more active methodologies aimed at learning that will enable students to put everything they learn into practice. However, such methodologies are not equally applicable in all subjects. Subjects such as Manufacturing Technology, taught at different levels in both undergraduate and graduate levels, are descriptive to a great extent. This descriptive nature must be supported by new technologies if these subjects claim to be more attractive to students. In this paper some examples of successful case studies are presented. They represent the new way of understanding the teaching replacing the old concept of traditional classroom lecture by more interactive ones and, therefore, more attractive to students.

This chapter examines the technologies available to virtual teams and issues associated with training virtual teams. We first evaluate the benefits and limitations of technologies to aid communication and collaboration. We consider the merits and limitations of asynchronous and synchronous discussion tools, groupware and collaboration tools, and electronic meeting systems. We then offer three different levels of training possible for virtual teams and discuss some key issues associated with training. Each level of training varies in intensity and is dependent upon the nature of the assignment and team objectives. The chapter concludes with some predictions and recommendations about the future of new technologies and virtual teams in the educational setting. Throughout the chapter, special considerations are made for those virtual teams operating in the traditional classroom.

The European Higher Education Area has entailed some upheaval since it has involved deep changes in university education. Among the subjects taught in technical education such as Manufacturing Technologies, which involve strong experimental contents, the use of specific tools is helpful for better understanding of such subjects. This article highlights the need for the use of simulation tools in the field of manufacturing processes. The student may achieve optimal understanding and learning from them. They can understand, in a more visual way, complex phenomena that govern different processes and the influence of key variables. Applications related to sheet metal forming, forging and casting processes are presented. The main objective is to enable students to better understand the phenomena that govern the processes of moulding and forming, with the invaluable help of simulation software. The final aim is to ensure that the student reaches an optimum knowledge of moulding and forming processes using simulation software.

This paper outlines the new global environment in which higher education institutions (HEIs) now have to operate. The author considers the threats and opportunities for institutions in Europe and discusses various strategic actions that need to be taken if the region's HEIs are to sustain their quality and increase their competitiveness. He suggests that structural changes, such as internationalization, the integration of new technologies and the ability to diversify, are essential for their survival. He argues too that there are lessons to be drawn from the responses of the banking sector to significant changes in the markets it serves. Finally, the author considers in more detail two of the key issues that European HEIs need to address – those of academic autonomy and collaboration with other HEIs and other organizations. The paper concludes that, to respond to the changing requirements of their ‘consumers’, HEIs must increase the transparency and accessibility of their programmes and, while protecting the essential principles of education, enhance and stress their market advantages.

The qualifications system reform in Serbia began in 2001, influenced primarily by the establishment of the European Higher Education Area, which created the preconditions for the development of a general framework for higher education qualifications. The reform of the existing qualifications system in Serbia required a response to the needs of the labor market, which was developing under new socio-economic circumstances. Since the beginning of the process, the development of a new system of qualifications has been implemented through two separate activities - the development of qualifications frameworks for secondary and higher education which remained non-harmonized. Although the development of individual qualifications frameworks for different levels of education is necessary for the development of a national qualifications framework, we argue that the separate frameworks remain incoherent to this day, that they do not precisely define the qualifications required to move from one level of education to another, when it comes to sociology as a subject, and that this situation affects the profiling of future sociologists. In this paper, we intend to problematize such an approach to the development of a general qualifications framework through the analysis of the contents of a domestic normative framework related to the general learning outcomes of teaching sociology at secondary and tertiary levels of education.

This paper presents selected theses on the standing and financing of higher education in three international programming documents on higher education policy: the Bucharest Communiqué of 2012 entitled Making the Most of Our Potential: Consolidating the European Higher Education Area, the Yerevan Communiqué of 2015 and the Paris Communiqué of 2018. The analysis of the standing and financing of higher education includes consideration of the situation in the Slovak Republic. These three documents consider the standing of higher education in the context of its financing with reference to the function that it fulfils for society in transmitting sophisticated new knowledge to the young generation. There is a visible discrepancy between the expectations of individuals and society as a whole concerning higher education and the sources of its funding. The paper includes an analysis of the changes in stakeholders’ views on higher education based on the theses in the three international programming documents on higher education policy. The paper concludes with a synthesis of the knowledge acquired from the three programming documents on higher education policy, and proposals for adding to them.

The conceptual foundations and the essence of standards and recommendations on quality assurance in the European higher education area have been defined. The Ukrainian realities of the adaptation of higher education of Ukraine to the educational European standards of quality have been characterized.

В статье рассматривается проблема согласования гуманитарного стиля мышления и естественнонаучного знания. Практика показывает, что у студентов, выбравших для обучения гуманитарные специальности, преобладает гуманитарное мышление. Оно сформировано условиями профильного обучения в средней школе и продолжает развиваться на этапе получения высшего образования. Гуманитарный тип мышления характеризуется диалогичностью, вариативностью, креативностью, самостоятельностью в освоении новых знаний, способностью к интеллектуальным изобретениям и экспериментам с неизвестными и неочевидными результатами, к рефлексивности и критичности результатов деятельности. Важнейшими условиями повышения эффективности в освоении содержания естественнонаучных дисциплин студентами-гуманитариями являются учет возможностей и познавательных интересов студентов, использование резервов учебной информации, интерактивных методов обучения.The article deals with the problem of harmonizing the humanitarian style of thinking and natural science knowledge. Practice shows that students who choose humanities to study in humanities have humanitarian thinking that prevails. It is shaped by the profile of secondary school education and continues to evolve at the stage of higher education. The humanitarian type of thinking is characterized by dialogue, variability, creativity, autonomy in the development of new knowledge, the ability to intellectual inventions and experiments with unknown and non-obvious results, to reflexivity and criticality of the results of activities. The most important conditions for increasing the effectiveness in mastering the content of natural science disciplines by students of the humanities are taking into account the capabilities and cognitive interests of students, the use of reserves of educational information, interactive teaching methods.
