In this work, hydrophobic of modified SiO2 coating for self cleaning material were prepared by dip-coating methods and solvothermal manual. SiO2 was successfully prepared from silica sand by purified followed sol-gel methods. Tetraetoxysilane (TEOS) and Hexamethyldisilanze (HMDS) were used as surface chemical modification agents with varied mass of SiO2, which were 1, 2, 3, and 4 g. X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) , X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Particle size analyzer (PSA), Ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometer (UV-Vis), and Water contact angle (WCA) were employed to investigate the element composition, crystal structure, size of particles, transparency, and hydrophobicity of coating. The results indicated that modified SiO2 coatings has hydrophobic feature as self cleaning material (WCA > 90˚) for indium tin oxide (ITO) glass.

Thin films in the system (1 - x) PbTiO3−xLa2/3TiO3 were prepared by the sol-gel and dip-coating methods. Phases deposited in the films and the lattice parameters as a function of the composition were investigated by the x-ray diffraction method. The solid solutions with a perovskite structure were formed as a single phase with x up to 0.9. For the composition of x = 1.0, metastable La-Ti-O perovskite phase with a small amount of the impurity phase, La2Ti2O7, was obtained. Simulation of x-ray diffraction patterns based on the defect structure model shows that the structure of the La-Ti-O perovskite phase includes randomly distributed cation vacancies at the A-site, namely (La2/3□1/3)TiO3.

WO3/Ag3PO4 electrochromic films were prepared by sol-gel and dip coating methods. The synthesized films were smooth having amorphous structure. The 0.8 wt% Ag3PO4-doped WO3 films displayed best electrochemical properties and optical modulation due to the effect of Ag3PO4 on reduction of band gap energy and enhancement of electrons and ions diffusions. X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to confirm the presence of Ag+ from Ag3PO4 in WO3/Ag3PO4 electrochromic films. They exhibited reversible electrochromic property with fast switching time when compared to that of pure WO3 film.

Silicon suboxides thin films obtained by sol-gel and dip-coating methods, starting from a sol containing different percentages of TEOS (tetraethoxysilane) and MTEOS (methyltriethoxysilane), were grown onto silicon substrates. The samples were annealed at 100, 300, and 500 °C, and the electronic and compositional properties of the surface were studied by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) detecting the Si “Auger parameter” and the valence band. The effects produced by an ion-sputtering treatment of the samples were also studied.

Ag/TiO2 thin film was prepared by the sol-gel method through the hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide and silver nitrate solution. Spin coating method was used to get uniform film on ITO glass substrate followed by annealing process for 1 hour. After that, all the samples were characterised using GIXRD and FESEM and undergone water contact angle test and MB degradation. Silver ion concentrations were varied to observe the effect on crystalline state, morphology, wettability and photocatalytic properties. The results showed that Ag/TiO2 thin film was in anatase phase and it could degrade nearly 70% of methylene blue after 150 min illumination. The formed Ag/TiO2 thin film has excellent self-cleaning property with compact, continuous, smooth, and good hydrophilicity property.

A continuous silica film with well aligned mesochannels parallel to the Si(001) surface was found to be formed through sol–gel dip-coating of a silica precursor with nonionic ethylene oxide surfactant. Two two-dimensional mesoporous structures in centered and non-centered rectangular symmetries and with the short axes of elongated ellipsoidal pores normal to the surface were observed by X-ray and electron diffraction. Detailed transmission electron microscopy investigations were employed to view the direction dependence of the channel or pore packing in the continuous film.

Sol gel indium tin oxide thin films (In: Sn = 90:10) were prepared by the sol-gel dipcoating process on silicon buffer substrate. The precursor solution was prepared by mixing SnCl2.2H2O and InCl3 dissolved in ethanol and acetic acid. The crystalline structure and grain orientation of ITO films were determined by X-ray diffraction. The surface morphology of the films was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Optical transmission and reflectance spectra of the films were analyzed by using a UV-visible spectrophotometer. The transport properties of majority charge carriers for these films were studied by Hall measurement. ITO thin film with electrical resistivity of 7.6 ×10-3 3.cm, Hall mobility of approximately 2 cm2(Vs)-1 and free carrier concentration of approximately 4.2 ×1020 cm-3 are obtained for films 100 nm thick films. The I-V curve measurement showed typical I-V characteristic behavior of sol gel ITO thin films.

Lithium molybdate doped tungsten trioxide electrochromic films were prepared from tungsten trioxide precursor and lithium molybdate powder by sol-gel and dip coating methods on fluorine doped tin oxide glass. The films, which synthesized were flat and amorphous structure, which confirmed by x-ray diffraction patterns. From UV-vis transmittance spectra within the wavelength from 400 to 800 nm. and cyclic voltammogram at the applying a potential of 1.0 V (bleached state) to -1.0 V (colored state) in sulfuric acid 0.5 M solution. The doping lithium molybdate 10 mol% films showed good result in terms of transmittance modulation, high diffusion coefficient and optimal surface area. Therefore, doping lithium molybdate 10 mol% has better outcome when compared to undoped lithium molybdate.

Super-hydrophobic film with hierarchical micro/nano structures was prepared by galvanic replacement reaction process on the surface of galvanized steel. The effects of the etching time and copper nitrate concentration on the wetting property of the as-prepared surfaces were studied. Scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and electrochemical technique were employed to characterize the surface morphology, chemical composition, and corrosion resistance. The stability and self-cleaning property of the as-fabricated super-hydrophobic film were also evaluated. The super-hydrophobic film can be obtained within 3 min and possesses a water contact angle of 164.3° ± 2°. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements indicated that the super-hydrophobic film greatly improved the corrosion resistance of the galvanized steel in 3.5 wt % NaCl aqueous solution. The highest inhibition efficiency was estimated to be 96.6%. The obtained super-hydrophobic film showed good stability and self-cleaning property.

TiO2, SiO2 and their hybrid nanocoatings are prepared on inherent flame retardant textile substrates from titanium(IV)iso-proproxide (TTIP) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) precursors using a sol–gel process followed by hydrothermal treatment. The coated samples are further functionalized by hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) to impart superhydrophobicity. Sample characterization of the nanosols, nanoparticles and coated samples are investigated using, X-ray diffractometer, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, contact angle measurement. Stain degradation test under mild UV irradiation shows almost 54% degradation of coffee stain within 4 hours measured by Spectrophotometer. UV-Vis Absorption Spectroscopy demonstrates complete degradation of methyl orange colorant within 3 hours. Hybrid nanosol coated and HDTMS modified inherent flame retardant polyester surfaces show apparent water contact angle as ~145°, which is much closer to proximity of superhydrophobic surfaces. Thus, the novelty of present work is, by using sol–gel technique, a bi-functional textile surface has been developed which qualifies the very specific requirements of protective clothing like self-cleaning property (imparted by TiO2 nanoparticles) and superhydrophobicity (imparted by SiO2 nanoparticles and further surface modification by HDTMS), which are entirely contradictory in nature, in a single fabric itself. Thus developed textile surfaces also possess the other attributes of protective clothing like flame retardancy and air permeability.

Abstract Recently, the rise of two dimensional amorphous nanostructured thin films have ignited a big interest because of their intriguingly isotropic structural and physical properties leading to potential applications in the nano-optoelectronics. However, according to literature, most of optoelectronic properties are investigated on chalcogenides related heterostructures. This has motivated the present work aiming to provide a new platform for the fabrication, examination of the properties and the applications of 2D nanostructured thin films based on epoxy/silicone blend. Thin films of Epoxy/Silicone loaded with nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) were prepared by sol-gel method and deposited on Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) glass substrates at room temperature. Further examination of optical properties aimed the investigation of optical pseudo-gap and Urbach energy and enabled the determination of processed films thickness based on Manifacier and Swanepol method. The results indicated that the unloaded thin films have a direct optical transition with a value of 3.61 eV followed by noticeable shift towards narrowing gaps depending on the loading rate. Urbach's energy is 0.19 eV for the unloaded thin films, and varies from 0.43 to 1.33 eV for the loaded thin films with increasing the rate of N-CNTs. It is inversely variable with the optical pseudo-gap. Finally, Epoxy/Silicone loaded with N-CNTs nanocomposites films can be developed as active layers with specific optical characteristics, giving the possibility to be used in electro-optical applications.
