Bi1−xSmxFe0.98Mn0.02O3 (x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06; named BSFMx) (BSFM) films were prepared by the sol-gel method on indium tin oxide (ITO)/glass substrate. The effects of different Sm content on the crystal structure, phase composition, oxygen vacancy content, ferroelectric property, dielectric property, leakage property, leakage mechanism, and aging property of the BSFM films were systematically analyzed. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectral analyses revealed that the sample had both R3c and Pnma phases. Through additional XRD fitting of the films, the content of the two phases of the sample was analyzed in detail, and it was found that the Pnma phase in the BSFMx = 0 film had the lowest abundance. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed that the BSFMx = 0.04 film had the lowest oxygen vacancy content, which was conducive to a decrease in leakage current density and an improvement in dielectric properties. The diffraction peak of (110) exhibited the maximum intensity when the doping amount was 4 mol%, and the minimum leakage current density and a large remanent polarization intensity were also observed at room temperature (2Pr = 91.859 μC/cm2). By doping Sm at an appropriate amount, the leakage property of the BSFM films was reduced, the dielectric property was improved, and the aging process was delayed. The performance changes in the BSFM films were further explained from different perspectives, such as phase composition and oxygen vacancy content.

Abstract High-density Cs2AgBiBr6 films with uniform grains were prepared by a simple one-step and low-temperature sol–gel method on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates. An explicit tristate bipolar resistance switching behavior was observed in the Pt/Cs2 AgBiBr6/ITO/glass devices under irradiation of 10 mW/cm2 (445 nm). This behavior was stable over 1200 s. The maximum ratio of the high and low resistance states was about 500. Based on the analysis of electric properties, valence variation and absorption spectra, the resistive switching characteristics were attributed to the trap-controlled space charge-limited current mechanism due to the bromine vacancies in the Cs2AgBiBr6 layer. On the other hand, it is suggested that the ordering of the Schottky-like barrier located at Pt/Cs2AgBiBr6 affects the three-state resistance switching behavior under light irradiation. The ability to adjust the photoelectrical properties of Cs2AgBiBr6-based resistive switching memory devices is a promising strategy to develop high-density memory. Graphical Abstract

AbstractA liquid droplet oscillating between two plane electrodes was visualized, and the electrical power generation based on the reverse-electrowetting-on-dielectric (REWOD) phenomenon was measured. For the upper plate, a hydrophobic surface treated by PTFE was used, and the lower plate was tested using the hydrophilic surface properties of ITO glass. To analyze the dynamic behavior of an oscillating liquid bridge, a modeling study was carried out using the phase field method based on the finite element method. The dynamic contact angle of the oscillating liquid bridge was modeled based on advancing and receding contact angles. The variable interfacial areas between the liquid and solid surfaces were calculated and agreed well with the experimental results within a 10% error band. Furthermore, experimental and analytical studies were carried out to examine the REWOD energy harvesting characteristics of the glycerol-water mixtures in various concentrations. As a result, the peak voltage output was obtained at a specific concentration of the glycerol mixture, and the power density of the oscillating liquid bridge at this point was up to 2.23 times higher than that of pure water.

Abstract Application of aniline derivative semiconductor nanopolymer and its Au composite for H2 generation and dye removal were investigated. Electrochemical polymerization of poly-3-methylaniline (P3MA) on ITO glass was carried out for acid medium. Au nanoparticles with crystal sizes of 15 and 30 nm were sputter coated on the surface. Chemical structure of the polymer and its composite was characterized using FTIR, XRD, 1HNMR, SEM, and UV-Vis. All function groups were confirmed using FTIR analyses. XRD confirmed the formation of nanopolymer with a crystal size of ~15 nm. SEM confirmed the formation of smooth lamellar surface feature with a <20 nm nanoporous structure. Porosity and particle sizes increases with Au coating, confirmed using the modeling Image J program. Optical analysis also demonstrated that the strength of P3MA absorption peaks increases with rising Au coating time, in which the bandgap values changed from 1.64 to 1.63 eV for 15 and 30 nm Au, respectively. The photoelectrode ITO/PMT/30 nm Au was applied for H2 generation and dye removal. The current density (Jph) values were -0.3 and -1.6 mA.cm-2 in the absence and presence of the Congo red dye, respectively. The incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE%) for the electrode was 2.3 at 390 nm. The activation energy (Ea) was 31.49 KJ mol-1. The enthalpy (∆H*) and entropy (∆S*) values were 114.49 and 160.46 JK-1 mol-1, respectively. A simple mechanism for the H2 generation and dye removal is mentioned

Thin films of epoxy/silicone loaded with N-CNT were prepared by a method of sol-gel and deposited on ITO glass substrates at room temperature. The properties of the loaded monolayer samples (0.00, 0.07, 0.1, and 0.2 wt% N-CNTs) were analyzed by UV-visible spectroscopy. The transmittance for the unloaded thin films is 88%, and an average transmittance for the loaded thin film is about 42 to 67% in the visible range. The optical properties were studied from UV-visible spectroscopy to examine the transmission spectrum, optical gap, Tauc verified optical gap, and Urbach energy, based on the envelope method proposed by Swanepoel (1983). The results indicate that the adjusted optical gap of the film has a direct optical transition with an optical gap of 3.61 eV for unloaded thin films and 3.55 to 3.19 eV for loaded thin films depending on the loading rate. The optical gap is appropriately adapted to the direct transition model proposed by Tauc et al. (1966); its value was 3.6 eV for unloaded thin films and from 3.38 to 3.1 eV for loaded thin films; then, we determined the Urbach energy which is inversely variable with the optical gap, where Urbach’s energy is 0.19 eV for the unloaded thin films and varies from 0.43 to 1.33 eV for the loaded thin films with increasing rate of N-CNTs. Finally, nanocomposite epoxy/silicone N-CNT films can be developed as electrically conductive materials with specific optical characteristics, giving the possibility to be used in electrooptical applications.

Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is a wireless communication technology using visible light to transmit data in an underwater environment, which has wide applications. Based on lift-off (In,Ga)N nanowires, this work has proposed and successfully demonstrated a self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) photodetector (PD) with excellent transmissivity. The transparent functionality of the PD is critical for 360° omnidirectional underwater detection, which was realized by detaching the (In,Ga)N nanowires from the opaque epitaxial substrates to the indium tin oxide (ITO)/glass. It was also found that the insulating SiO2 layer can enhance the photocurrent by about 12 times. The core–shell structure of the nanowires is beneficial for generating carriers and contributing to the photocurrent. Furthermore, a communication system with ASCII code is set to demonstrate the PD detection in underwater communication. This work paves an effective way to develop 360° omnidirectional PDs for the wide applications in UWOC system and underwater photodetection.

In a previous study, a thin In-Ga-Zn-oxide light addressable potentiometric sensor (IGZO LAPS) was indicated to have the advantages of low interference from ambient light, a high photocurrent and transfer efficiency, and a low cost. However, illumination optimization to obtain two-dimensional (2D) chemical images with better spatial resolutions has not been fully investigated. The trigger current and AC-modulated frequency of a 405-nm laser used to illuminate the fabricated IGZO LAPS were modified to check the photocurrent of the sensing area and SU8–2005 masking area, obtaining spatial resolution-related functions for the first time. The trigger current of illumination was adjusted from 0.020 to 0.030 A to compromise between an acceptable photocurrent and the integrity of the SU8–2005 masking layer. The photocurrent (PC) and differential photocurrent (DPC) versus scanning length (SL) controlled by an X-Y stage were used to check the resolved critical dimensions (CDs). The difference between resolved CD and optically measured CD (e.g., delta CD) measured at an AC frequency of 500 Hz revealed overall smaller values, supporting precise measurement in 2D imaging. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has an optimized range of 2.0 to 2.15 for a better resolution for step spacings of both 10 and 2 μm in the scanning procedure to construct static 2D images. Under illumination conditions with a trigger current of 0.025 A and at an AC frequency of 500 Hz, the spatial resolution can be reduced to 10 μm from the pattern width of 6 μm. This developed methodology provides a quantitative evaluation with further optimization in spatial resolution without an extra cost for applications requiring a high spatial resolution, such as single-cell activity.
