The organic/inorganic hybrid sol was prepared by hydrolysis polymerization of methyl-triethoxysilane (MTES) with acidic silica sol. Zirconium silicate, zircon sand and refractory fiber were respectively added to the hybrid sol to increase the stability of the coating in high temperature service. P-type skutterudite(SKD) protective coating obtained by multi-layer coating and certain pretreatment. Protective effect was studied by observing the diffusion of antimony from the SKD into the coating. The results show that the coating has the advantages of simple process and high strength and high stability after aging. The sublimation of antimony is suppressed and it is expected to be applied to the protection of SKD in vacuum.

It has been found that the decay in dimethylformamide and dimethylformamide-water mixtures of radical anions in five of the investigated 5-nitrofurans is governed by a second-order reaction. Only the decay of the radical anion generated from 5-nitro-2-furfural III may be described by an equation including parallel first- and second-order reactions; this behaviour is evidently caused by the relatively high stability of the corresponding dianion, this being an intermediate in the reaction path. The presence of a larger conjugated system in the substituent in position 2 results in a decrease of the unpaired electron density in the nitro group and, consequently, an increase in the stability of the corresponding radical anions.

Fluorescence and circular dichroism in far-UV region were used to study the stability of trehalose/maltose binding protein (TMBP) from hyper thermophilic archaeonThermococcus litoralisand its complex with glucose (TMBP/Glc). The evaluation of difference between free energy of native and unfolded state for TMBP and TMBP/Glc showed that both of them are several times higher than that of proteins from mesophilic organisms. Due to the high stability and innate ability to bind glucose this protein is a good candidate as a sensitive element in biosensor systems for sugar control.

In this study, a preparation method for the high-temperature pressure sensor based on the piezoresistive effect of p-type SiC is presented. The varistor with a positive trapezoidal shape was designed and etched innovatively to improve the contact stability between the metal and SiC varistor. Additionally, the excellent ohmic contact was formed by annealing at 950 °C between Ni/Al/Ni/Au and p-type SiC with a doping concentration of 1018cm−3. The aging sensor was tested for varistors in the air of 25 °C–600 °C. The resistance value of the varistors initially decreased and then increased with the increase of temperature and reached the minimum at ~450 °C. It could be calculated that the varistors at ~100 °C exhibited the maximum temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of ~−0.35%/°C. The above results indicated that the sensor had a stable electrical connection in the air environment of ≤600 °C. Finally, the encapsulated sensor was subjected to pressure/depressure tests at room temperature. The test results revealed that the sensor output sensitivity was approximately 1.09 mV/V/bar, which is better than other SiC pressure sensors. This study has a great significance for the test of mechanical parameters under the extreme environment of 600 °C.

This work describes our findings about an evaluation of the stability and the consistency of twenty primary PICSs (Pseudo-Invariant Calibration Sites). We present an analysis of 13 years of 8-daily MODIS products of BRDF parameters and white-sky-albedos (WSA) over the shortwave band. This time series of WSA and BRDFs shows the variation of the “stability” varies significantly from site to site. Using a 10x10 km window size over all the sites, the change in of WSA stability is around 4% but the isotropicity, which is an important element in inter-satellite calibration, can vary from 75% to 98%. Moreover, some PICS, especially, Libya-4 which is one of the PICS which is most employed, has significant and relatively fast changes in wintertime. PICS observations of BRDF/albedo shows that the Libya-4 PICS has the best performance but it is not too far from some sites such as Libya-1 and Mali. This study also reveals that Niger-3 PICS has the longest continuous period of high stability per year, and Sudan has the most isotropic surface. These observations have important implications for the use of these sites.

Lutein has significant nutritional benefits for human health. Therefore, enhancing soybean lutein concentrations is an important breeding objective. However, selection for soybeans with high and environmentally stable lutein concentrations has been limited. The objectives of this study were to select soybeans with high seed lutein concentrations and to determine the stability of lutein concentrations across environments. A total of 314 genotypes were screened and 18 genotypes with high lutein concentrations and five genotypes with low lutein concentrations were selected for further examination. These 23 genotypes and two check varieties were evaluated under six environments (two planting dates for 2 years at one location and two planting dates for 1 year at another location). Lutein concentrations were influenced by genotype, environment and genotype × environment interactions. Genotypes with late maturity and low lutein concentrations were more stable than those with early maturity and high concentrations. Early (May) planting resulted in greater lutein concentrations than late (June) planting. Among the genotypes evaluated, PI603423B (7.7 μg/g) and PI89772 (5.8 μg/g) had the greatest mean lutein concentrations and exhibited medium and high stability across the six environments, respectively. Thus, these genotypes may be useful for breeding soybeans with high and stable seed lutein concentrations.

Carbide-free bainitic (CFB) steels belong to the family of advanced high strength steels (AHSS) that are struggling to become part of the third-generation steels to be marketed for the automotive industry. The combined effects of the bainitic matrix and the retained austenite confers a significant strength with a remarkable ductility to these steels. However, CFB steels usually show much more complex microstructures that also contain MA (Martensite–Austenite) phase and auto-tempered martensite (ATM). These phases may compromise the ductility of CFB steels. The present work analyzes the substructure evolution during tensile tests in the necking zone, and deepens into the void and crack formation mechanisms and their relationship with the local microstructure. The combination of FEG-SEM imaging, EBSD, and X-ray diffraction has been necessary to characterize the substructure development and damage initiation. The bainite matrix has shown great ductility through the generation of high angle grain boundaries and/or large orientation gradients around voids, which are usually found close to the bainite and MA/auto-tempered martensite interfaces or fragmenting the MA phase. Special attention has been paid to the stability of the retained austenite (RA) during the test, which may eventually be transformed into martensite (Transformation Induced Plasticity, or TRIP effect).
