AbstractLife-threatening adverse reactions of antitubercular drugs are uncommon; however, thrombocytopenia is one such rare complication encountered with rifampicin, isoniazid, ethambutol, and pyrazinamide. Rifampicin is the most effective drug and its use in the tuberculosis treatment led to the emergence of modern and effective short-course regimens. I am reporting case series of three patients with pulmonary tuberculosis presented with rifampicin-induced thrombocytopenia.

Penicillium marneffei (P. marneffei) is a rare human pathogen, unique among species of penicillium by its thermal dimorphism and its propensity to infect the lungs and reticulo endothelial system and to proliferate within histiocytes either in healthy or immunocompromised hosts. Penicillium marneffei is a rare in HIV negative child. Clinical characteristics of study were 9 years old male presented with fever, cough and loss of appetite for 6 months that persisted despite ante tuberculosis treatment. Broncho alveolar lavage showed typical elements and culture yielded the growth of penicillium marneffei. Outcome of this study was child responded to amphotericin and did not relapse on itraconozole prophylaxis. Penicilliosis mimics pulmonary tuberculosis.

Objective. To increase efficiency of cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis treatment by developing modern indications and technology of extrapleural pneumolysis with filling material.Material and methods. We reviewed 25 patients with cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis and bacterial excretion who had undergone extrapleural pneumolysis with different types of filling material in 2004–2015. In 16 cases, we performed surgery in patients with one lung.Results. 56% of operated patients demonstrated extensively drug-resistant TB, 40% had multidrug-resistant TB. Cavities were closed and bacterial excretion ceased in 92% of patients at discharge. Long-term results with observation period from 1 to 12 years were analyzed in 24 patients, 17 (71%) of them had complete clinical efficacy.Conclusion. Extrapleural pneumolysis is a mini-invasive surgical treatment that can prove positive effect in patients with non-fibrotic changes in a cavity wall and pathological process in upper parts of the lungs.

Background : Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bactery can be transmitted through airbone particles and droplets. The treatment is a long term therapy and can be a stressor which effect patient’s physical and psychologycal, that leads to depression. Objective : The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between pulmonary tuberculosis treatment duration and depression score.  Methods : This study was a correlative analysis with cross sectional design. The sample were 52 respondents whom currently endured the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in pulmonary unit in RSUD Pirngadi Medan, selected by consecutive sampling. Beck’s inventory depression II questionnaires were used to measure depression score. The data were analyzed with pearson correlation test.  Result : There was a low negative correlation between duration of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment and depression score (p = 0,027 ; r = -0,309) Conclusion  : The longer duration of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment, the lower the depression score.
