The present investigation is devoted to the development of the pain syndrome in endometriosis patients. 150 women with a genital endometriosis of the reproductive age were investigated. On the base of the correlative analysis a high level of dependence between the pain syndrome severances, level of peroxidation (malonic dialdehyde) and level immune depression was revealed. Inflammation reaction (DTH) takes a significant role in the pain syndrome in endometriosis. Severance of the endometriosis development is not defined by the spreading stage, it is defined by the pain syndrome severance, which correlates with the anxiety level and depression and has extra-organic features.

Abstract The present review analyses the recent literature on the combined use of X-ray microscopy (XRM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) for multiscale characterization of Li+ (or Li) batteries (LiBs) with the aim of developing guidelines for correlative analysis. The usefulness of XRM resides in the capability of affording non invasively in situ images of the inner parts of a LiB (an encapsulated device) with spatial resolution of dozens of nm during operation. XRM is non destructive and affords the early diagnosis of LiBs degradation causes when these manifest themselves as microdeformations. Multiscale characterization of LiBs also requires AFM for visualizing the morphological/physical alterations of LiB components (anodes, cathodes, electrolyte) at the sub-nanometer level. Different to XRM, AFM necessitates of a modification of LiB working configuration since AFM uses a contacting probe whereas XRM exploits radiation-matter interactions and does not require LiB dissection. A description of the working principles of the two techniques is provided to evidence which technical aspects have to be considered for achieving a meaningful correlative analysis of LiBs. In delineating new perspectives for the analysis of LiBs we will consider additional complementary techniques. Among various AFM-based techniques particular emphasis is given to electrochemical AFM (EC-AFM).

In this paper, the accurate determination of the size and size distribution of bipyramidal anatase nanoparticles (NPs) after deposition as single particles on a silicon substrate by correlative Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) analysis is described as a new measurement procedure for metrological purposes. The knowledge of the exact orientation of the NPs is a crucial step in extracting the real 3D dimensions of the particles. Two approaches are proposed to determine the geometrical orientation of individual nano-bipyramides: (i) AFM profiling along the long bipyramid axis and (ii) stage tilting followed by SEM imaging. Furthermore, a recently developed method, Transmission Kikuchi Diffraction (TKD), which needs preparation of the crystalline NPs on electron-transparent substrates such as TEM grids, has been tested with respect to its capability of identifying the geometrical orientation of the individual NPs. With the NPs prepared homogeneously on a TEM grid, the transmission mode in a SEM, i.e., STEM-in-SEM (or T-SEM), can be also applied to extract accurate projection dimensions of the nanoparticles from the same sample area as that analysed by SEM, TKD and possibly AFM. Finally, Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) can be used as an ensemble technique able to measure the NPs in liquid suspension and, with ab-initio knowledge of the NP shape from the descriptive imaging techniques, to provide traceable NP size distribution and particle concentration.

Background and Objectives: This study aims to explore the safety of preoperative chemotherapy and clarify whether preoperative chemotherapy with oxaliplatin + S-1 (SOX) regimen and its adverse events are associated with higher risks of postoperative complications.Methods: We included consecutive patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy in our department between July 1 2018, and January 31 2020. Patients with preoperative SOX regimen chemotherapy were included in the analysis.Results: In the 343 included patients, 77 cases underwent preoperative chemotherapy. In total, surgical complications were found in 117 patients (34.1%), and there was no significant difference between the patients with and without preoperative chemotherapy before and after propensity score matching (p > 0.05, respectively). Multivariate analysis showed that preoperative comorbidities (p = 0.026) and the preoperative cT4b (p = 0.028) were independent risk factors in postoperative complications. In patients with preoperative chemotherapy, neither the occurrence of adverse events nor their severity was associated with postoperative complications (p > 0.05). However, the patients who received five to six cycles were more prone to postoperative complications than those who received three to four cycles (62.5 vs. 27.9%, OR = 4.306, 95% Cl = 1.282–14.464, p = 0.018).Conclusions: Occurrence of postoperative complications was not influenced by preoperative SOX chemotherapy. However, increased cycles of chemotherapy may lead to higher incidence of postoperative complications.

AbstractPoorly differentiated chordoma (PDC) is a recently recognized subtype of chordoma characterized by expression of the embryonic transcription factor, brachyury, and loss of INI1. PDC primarily affects children and is associated with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Here we describe the molecular and immune tumour microenvironment profiles of two paediatric PDCs produced using whole-genome, transcriptome and whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) and multiplex immunohistochemistry. Our analyses revealed the presence of tumour-associated immune cells, including CD8+ T cells, and expression of the immune checkpoint protein, PD-L1, in both patient samples. Molecular profiling provided the rationale for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy, which resulted in a clinical and radiographic response. A dominant T cell receptor (TCR) clone specific for a brachyury peptide–MHC complex was identified from bulk RNA sequencing, suggesting that targeting of the brachyury tumour antigen by tumour-associated T cells may underlie this clinical response to ICI. Correlative analysis with rhabdoid tumours, another INI1-deficient paediatric malignancy, suggests that a subset of tumours may share common immune phenotypes, indicating the potential for a therapeutically targetable subgroup of challenging paediatric cancers.

In order to have satisfaction in doing didactic profession, the teachers need a high level of self-esteem, a professional environment lacking stress and tensions, an environment which encourages active involvement, empathy and the joy of doing everything for those one devotes oneself each moment of one’s life. The work proposes a comparative analysis of self-esteem and burnout phenomenon for teachers in special education and in mass education. At the same time it approaches a correlative analysis between the level of self-esteem and the level of burnout for the persons who teach. The sample involved in the research is made of 142 teachers from special schools (83) and normal schools (59).

Abstract PURPOSE Standard of care for craniopharyngiomas is surgery with or without radiotherapy (RT). Cohort A of Alliance A071601 evaluated the efficacy of BRAF/MEK inhibition with vemurafenib/cobimetinib in patients with previously untreated papillary craniopharyngiomas (PCP), which carry the BRAF V600E mutation. Cohort B is currently enrolling patients with recurrence after RT. In a correlative analysis, we examined changes in RT volumes after BRAF/MEK therapy in Cohort A. METHODS Previously unirradiated patients with BRAF-mutated PCP were treated with vemurafenib/cobimetinib. Sixteen patients had scans available before starting vemurafenib/cobimetinib (“pre-therapy”) and after completing therapy (“post-therapy”). Two patients went off study treatment after 8 and 9 days due to side-effects and were excluded for this analysis. Gross target volumes (GTV) were contoured on pre-therapy and post-therapy scans. On post-therapy scans, an additional target comprising gross disease and at-risk regions for microscopic residual disease (GTV-micro) was defined and considered the treatment volume. Clinical target volume (CTV) was a 5-mm uniform expansion on pre-therapy GTV and post-therapy GTV-micro. Volumes were independently reviewed by two radiation oncologists. Changes in volumes from pre- versus post-therapy were compared using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. RESULTS In 14 patients evaluated, 57% were female and median age at enrollment was 49.5 years (range 33-83). Median time on treatment was 8.9 months (range 4.0-18.0). Median GTV pre-therapy was 3.8 mL (range 0.2-23.4) versus 0.3 mL (range 0.0-3.2) post-therapy (p=0.0001) and 1.7 mL (range 0.1-8.0) post-therapy GTV-micro (p=0.0001). Median CTV pre-therapy was 13.7 mL (range 2.8-51.8) versus 9.1 mL (range 2.2-27.5) post-therapy (p=0.0001). All tumors abutted the optic chiasm pre-therapy, only 6 did post-therapy. CONCLUSIONS Vemurafenib/cobimetinib resulted in smaller RT volumes. BRAF/MEK inhibitors could reduce RT volumes and spare dose to surrounding normal structures. Enrollment to Cohort B of Alliance A071601 should be considered for patients with recurrent tumors after RT. SUPPORT https://acknowledgments.alliancefound.org
