The measurement of vegetation indexes that characterise the plants growth, assessing the fruit ripeness or detecting the presence of defects and diseases, is a key factor to gain high quality of fruit or vegetables. Such evaluation can be carried out using both destructive and non destructive techniques. Among non-destructive techniques, hyperspectral imaging (HSI), combining image analysis and visible/near-infrared spectroscopy, looks particularly useful. Many studies have been published concerning the use of hyperspectral cameras in the agronomic and food field, especially in controlled laboratory conditions. Conversely, few studies described the application of HSI technology directly in field, especially involving ground-based systems. Results suggest that this technique could be particularly useful, even if the role of environmental variables has to be considered (e.g., intensity and incidence of solar radiation, wind or the soil in the background). In this paper, recent in-field HSI applications based on ground systems are reviewed.

Agricultural products quality which included intrinsic attribute and extrinsic characteristic, closely related to the health of consumer and the exported cost. Now, imaging (machine vision) and spectrum are two main nondestructive inspection technologies to be applied. Hyperspectral imaging, a new emerging technology developed for detecting quality of the food and agricultural products in recent years, combined techniques of conventional imaging and spectroscopy to obtain both spatial and spectral information from an objective simultaneously. This paper compared the advantage and disadvantage of imaging, spectrum and hyperspectral imaging technique, and provided a description to basic principle, feature of hyperspectral imaging system and calibration of hyperspectral reflectance images. In addition, the recent advances for the application of hyperspectral imaging to agricultural products quality inspection were reviewed in other countries and China.

The quality of oil palm fruits is evaluated through several characteristics such as the ripeness level, oil content, and free fatty acid. Besides human visual assessment and destructive techniques, another alternative method that provides quality assessment on oil palm fresh fruits bunches (FFB) is through the application of non-destructive techniques. A few of the non-destructive techniques are covered in this review such as machine vision system, visible or near infrared spectroscopy, image processing using relative entropy, fluorescence technique, Kinect camera, and optical sensor system. The main quality parameter that is being evaluated is the ripeness level of the FFB because the maturity of FFB has a direct impact on the quality of the extracted oil that will eventually affect the economic value of palm oil.

Abstract Purpose Body image, self-esteem, and masculinity are three interconnected constructs in men with prostate cancer, with profound effects on quality of life. This meta-synthesis aimed to evaluate all known qualitative studies published studying the effect of prostate cancer on these constructs. Methods A systematic review utilising PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO databases up to May 2020 was conducted in line with PRISMA and ENTREQ guidelines. All qualitative studies of men’s experiences with body image, self-esteem, and masculinity whilst living with prostate cancer were included. A thematic meta-synthesis was conducted to identify emergent descriptive and analytical themes under the main study constructs. Results Of 2188 articles identified, 68 were included. Eight descriptive themes were identified under two analytical themes: ‘Becoming a Prostate Cancer Patient’ and ‘Becoming a Prostate Cancer Survivor’. These described the distress caused by changes to body image, sexual functioning, sense of masculinity, and self-esteem, and the subsequent discourses men engaged with to cope with and manage their disease. A key element was increased flexibility in masculinity definitions, and finding other ways to re-affirm masculinity. Conclusions Prostate cancer has an important effect on men’s health post-diagnosis, and we identified strong relationships between each construct evaluated. The role of hegemonic masculinity is important when considering men’s coping mechanisms and is also a key factor when addressing these constructs in counselling post-treatment. Implications for Cancer Survivors This meta-synthesis provides key topics that uniquely affect prostate cancer survivors, enabling these patients to be effectively counselled, and have their concerns recognised by clinicians.

AbstractLiver fibrosis occurs in response to any etiology of chronic liver injury. Lack of appropriate clinical intervention will lead to liver cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), seriously affecting the quality of life of patients, but the current clinical treatments of liver fibrosis have not been developed yet. Recent studies have shown that hypoxia is a key factor promoting the progression of liver fibrosis. Hypoxia can cause liver fibrosis. Liver fibrosis can, in turn, profoundly further deepen the degree of hypoxia. Therefore, exploring the role of hypoxia in liver fibrosis will help to further understand the process of liver fibrosis, and provide the theoretical basis for its diagnosis and treatment, which is of great significance to avoid further deterioration of liver diseases and protect the life and health of patients. This review highlights the recent advances in cellular and molecular mechanisms of hypoxia in developments of liver fibrosis.

Coaching has often been viewed as a context within which coaches operate to largely bring about changes in athlete’s performance and flourishing. One key factor to successful outcomes in coaching is the quality of the relationship between coaches and athletes. The coach–athlete relationship is at the heart of coaching; however, limited studies have been conducted on its antecedents. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between coaches’ forgiveness and perceived relationship quality toward their athletes through verifying the mediating role of interpersonal behaviors of coaches. A total of 270 Iranian coaches participated in the survey, and the data sets were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results revealed that forgiveness positively predicted the coaches’ perceived relationship quality with their athletes, and this pathway was mediated by the coaches’ interpersonal behaviors.

COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected the lives of humans worldwide. We no longer experience the same quality of life and need to come up with effective solutions to combat the clinical implications. The vast knowledge about the pathways that regulate the virus entry and molecular signaling of the pathogenesis of coronavirus are the key factor for the development of de novo diagnostic/therapeutic strategies. Meanwhile, the emergence of nanotechnology, could offer enormous help in the battle against coronavirus. In this editorial, the role of molecular elements in the pathobiology of the disease and the significance of nanoscaled pharmaceuticals is highlighted.
