Purpose: This study examines the influence of line manager communication (LMC) on affective organisational commitment through the mediating mechanisms of employee trust and job satisfaction. The study further investigates the moderation effect of line manager communication and employee trust to explain affective organisational commitment.Design/methodology/approach: Data for the study were collected from employees at different organisational levels in the financial services sector of South Africa through an online survey hosted on Qualtrics. A covariance-based structural equation modelling (SEM) was performed to assess the various hypotheses by using Mplus. The moderation analysis used the latent moderated structural (LMS) model approach, which utilises the unique capabilities of SEM.Findings/results: The results show that LMC does not independently influence organisational commitment. However, LMC indirectly influences affective organisational commitment through employee trust and job satisfaction. Moreover, the findings indicate that LMC positively influences affective organisational commitment under conditions of high employee trust.Practical implications: Firms should develop the communication skills of line managers to foster employee trust and job satisfaction to contribute to employee commitment. Line manager communication should be nurtured, especially in high-paced financial services firm environments, for employee trust and job satisfaction to be enhanced, and in turn, improve organisational commitment.Originality/value: The findings demonstrate that LMC does not independently influence organisational trust. Instead, line managers should focus their communications on improving employee trust and job satisfaction if they seek to foster strong employee identification with firm goals and vision.

This study explores how COVID-19-induced stress (CID) influences organizational trust, job satisfaction, self-esteem, and commitment in tourism and hospitality organizations. A total of 427 tourism affiliated employees in South Korea participated in an online survey. Using structural equation modelling (SEM), the proposed conceptual model reveals that CID stress in tourism/hospitality employees is negatively related to organizational trust, job satisfaction, and self-esteem which, in turn, is positively related to organizational commitment. CID stress also indirectly affects organizational commitment. The findings have significant strategic implications for tourism and hospitality organizations‒specifically, the provision of instrumental resources (e.g., safety glasses, latex gloves, hand sanitizers, facial masks) to alleviate their employees’ work-related stress during pandemics.

South Korea is becoming an advanced economy based on continuous innovative organisational efforts. Job stressors have been identified in the literature as a major hindrance to many positive organisational behaviours. We predict that job insecurity and work–family conflict will have a negative effect on innovative behaviour with mediators of job satisfaction and organisational commitment. Results from structural equation models provided support for this study. From a practical perspective, the significant negative relationships between job stressors and innovative behaviour imply the need to reduce work–family conflict and feelings of job insecurity in Korean companies in order to foster innovation.

The objective of this research is to find out a direct and an indirect relationship between motivation, organisational commitment, and lecturers competence and job satisfaction and lecturers performance. This was non-experimental research using a quantitative approach with ex-post facto designs. Hypotheses of this research aim to prove the relationship between variables. The data were collected by using questionnaire distributed to the randomly-chosen respondents and analyzed using Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method. The conclusion of the modeling analysis result of these five variables are: (1) lecturers motivation has not a direct relationship with lecturers performance; (2) lecturers commitment has an indirect relationship with lecturers performance; (3) both exogenous variables (lecturers motivation and commitment) need intervening variable (job satisfaction) to be proven to be related to the lecturers performance; and (4) it is only lecturers competence variable having a direct relationship with lecturers performance even though without passing through mediation and lecturers job satisfaction variable.

Objective The aim of the present study was to analyse the impact of organisational characteristics on the turnover intention of care workers working at nursing homes in Korea. Methods Study participants included 504 care workers working at 14 nursing homes in Korea. The variables measured were: high-performance work practices, consisting of five subfactors (official training, employment stability, autonomy, employee participation and group-based payment); organisational commitment, consisting of three subfactors (affective, normative and continuance commitment); organisational support; and turnover intention. The inter-relationship between high-performance work practices, organisational support, organisational commitment and turnover intention and the fit of the hypothetical model were analysed using structural equation modelling. Results According to our analysis, high-performance work practices not only had a direct effect on turnover intention, but also an indirect effect by mediating organisational support and commitment. The factor having the largest direct influence on turnover intention was organisational commitment. Conclusions The results of the present study suggest that to improve health conditions for frail elderly patients at nursing homes, as well as the efficiency of nursing homes through the continuance of nursing service and enhancement of quality of service, long-term care facilities should reduce the turnover intention of care workers by increasing their organisational commitment by actively implementing high-performance work practices. What is known about the topic? Considerable studies have shown that the adoption of high-performance work practices is related to an organisation’s performance and job satisfaction. In addition, previous studies found that job satisfaction is inversely related to the turnover intention of employees. What does this paper add? This paper identified that high-performance work practices are closely related to the turnover intention of care workers in nursing homes. These findings could improve our understanding of the factors that impact on labour management in nursing homes. What are the implications for practitioners? The turnover of care workers is one of the major managerial challenges for nursing home managers. The findings of this study suggest that managers should be focused on high-performance work practices to improve the efficiency of their organisations.

AbstractResearch into spirituality and its impact on the work environment has been bourgeoning. In an attempt to explore the role of Islamic spirituality in the workplace, this study examines the influence of Islamic spirituality on job satisfaction and organisational commitment through work ethics. Data are obtained by an online Likert-scaled questionnaire survey based on one thousand Muslim employees from various economic sectors in Indonesia and analysed through structural equation modelling (SEM). The findings demonstrate that Islamic spirituality positively influences job satisfaction and organisational commitment as two dimensions of work attitudes and that work ethics mediate that influence. There is also evidence that job satisfaction positively influences organisational commitment, but work ethics does not moderate that influence. The findings related to the role of work ethics, which mediates the effect of Islamic spirituality on job satisfaction and organisational commitment, can be considered the contribution of this study.

In the context of Muslim-friendly tourism, marketers have to pay attention to the needs of their main target, Muslim tourists. This study aimed to examine the influence of destination attributes, including both generic and Islamic attributes, on overall tourist satisfaction to get a more comprehensive view. Likewise, this study investigated the effect of overall tourist satisfaction on its consequences. The moderation effect of Islamic religiosity on the relationship between Islamic attributes and overall tourist satisfaction was also considered. An online survey was conducted, with a sample of 231 Muslims who traveled to Muslim-majority cities, and the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that both generic and Islamic attributes positively influence overall tourist satisfaction, while its consequences affected their behavioral, attitudinal loyalty, and churn intention. Overall tourist satisfaction was not found to affect complaint intention. Likewise, the moderation effect of Islamic religiosity was insignificant.
