AbstractDespite of the evident need for psychosocial competence and sensitivity in diabetes care professionals, this field remains sub optimally described in both International Diabetes Federation/American Diabetes Association and National Diabetes Educator Program curricula. This unfortunate omission is formidable challenge for diabetes care and poses an urgent need to amend existing curricula for training of diabetes educators (DEs). Diabetes education programs have exhaustively described the hard skills and also mention the importance of behavioral change, communication skills and cultural competence, yet soft skills of addressing psychosocial concerns have been given a Cinderella treatment. Diabetes educator (DE) has to be professional, personal and like a family member to patient forming a valuable link between treating clinician and the people with diabetes (PwD). Looking at the gap and the future aspects, a universal approach of sensitization which includes both the beneficiary and policy makers has to be adopted. Better description and importance of psychosocial aspects of diabetes have to be included in the curricula for DE training.

Summary: The Indian subcontinent comprises eight countries (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan, and the Maldives) and a collective population of more than 1.3 billion people. 10% of the world's suicides (more than 100,000 people) take place in just three of these countries, viz. India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. There is very little information on suicides from the other four countries. Some differences from suicides in Western countries include the high use of organophosphate insecticides, larger numbers of married women, fewer elderly subjects, and interpersonal relationship problems and life events as important causative factors. There is need for more and better information regarding suicide in the countries of the Indian subcontinent. In particular, studies must address culture-specific risk factors associated with suicide in these countries. The prevention of this important public health problem in an area of the world with myriad socio-economic problems, meager resources, and stigmatization of mental illness poses a formidable challenge to mental health professionals, policy makers, and governments of these countries.

Language has become a never- ending phenomenon in day-day life. To articulate one’s own idea language has become an artifact in showcasing the rudiments of everyday life. It is a tool which bridges the gap between the people so that the conflict between known and the unknown will not take place. The major portal of communication is language and it operates at every level and without this the mode will not function. Teaching is quite challenging in the contemporary times and it expects the teaching fraternity to be a facilitator than a moderator. A few decades back book based teaching was foregrounded and knowledge based teaching was back grounded whereas in the present scenario knowledge based teaching which comprises hard skills and soft skills matters a lot along with that the curriculm too evolves. This paradigmatic shift is to make the student community a good product in the job market. Literature is unique in nature and it informs the reader about the scenarios which will take place in the coming days and all this is possible only through the artistic talent of the writers and they are the real oracles. Bowen Mechanism having its deep origin in America when the society was fragmented owing to the Aftermaths of the second world war .  A psychologist by nature has framed a few methodologies to eliminate the human’s misunderstanding and for that communication acts as an impetus.

Abstract Aim: To develop a diabetes education model based on individual beliefs, knowledge and risk awareness, aimed at migrants with type 2 diabetes, living in Sweden. Background: Type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing globally, particularly affecting migrants living in developed countries. There is ongoing debate about what kind of teaching method gives the best result, but few studies have evaluated different methods for teaching migrants. Previous studies lack a theoretical base and do not proceed from the individuals’ own beliefs about health and illness, underpinned by their knowledge, guiding their health-related behaviour. Methods: A diabetes education model was developed to increase knowledge about diabetes and to influence self-care among migrants with type 2 diabetes. The model was based on literature review, on results from a previous study investigating knowledge about diabetes, on experience from studies of beliefs about health and illness, and on collaboration between researchers in diabetes care and migration and health and staff working in a multi-professional diabetes team. Findings: This is a culturally appropriate diabetes education model proceeding from individual beliefs about health and illness and knowledge, conducted in focus-group discussions in five sessions, led by a diabetes specialist nurse in collaboration with a multi-professional team, and completed within three months. The focus groups should include 4–5 persons and last for about 90 min, in the presence of an interpreter. A thematic interview guide should be used, with broad open-ended questions and descriptions of critical situations/health problems. Discussions of individual beliefs based on knowledge are encouraged. When needed, healthcare staff present at the session answer questions, add information and ensure that basic principles for diabetes care are covered. The diabetes education model is tailored to both individual and cultural aspects and can improve knowledge about type 2 diabetes, among migrants and thus increase self-care behaviour and improve health.

Background: Quality measures relating to diabetes care in America have not improved between 2005 and 2016, and have plateaued even in areas that outperform national statistics. New approaches to diabetes care and education are needed and are especially important in reaching populations with significant barriers to optimized care. Methods: A pilot quality improvement study was created to optimize diabetes education in a clinic setting with a patient population with significant healthcare barriers. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES) were deployed in a team-based model with flexible scheduling and same-day education visits, outside of the traditional framework of diabetes education, specifically targeting practices with underperforming diabetes quality measures, in a clinic setting significantly impacted by social determinants of health. Results: A team-based and flexible diabetes education model decreased hemoglobin A1C for individuals participating in the project (and having a second A1C measured) by an average of −2.3%, improved Minnesota Diabetes Quality Measures (D5) for clinicians participating in the project by 5.8%, optimized use of CDCES, and reduced a high visit fail rate for diabetes education. Conclusions: Diabetes education provided in a team-based and flexible model may better meet patient needs and improve diabetes care metrics, in settings with a patient population with significant barriers.

People who either use an upper limb prosthesis and/or have used services provided by a prosthetic rehabilitation centre, hereafter called users, are yet to benefit from the fast-paced growth in academic knowledge within the field of upper limb prosthetics. Crucially over the past decade, research has acknowledged the limitations of conducting laboratory-based studies for clinical translation. This has led to an increase, albeit rather small, in trials that gather real-world user data. Multi-stakeholder collaboration is critical within such trials, especially between researchers, users, and clinicians, as well as policy makers, charity representatives, and industry specialists. This paper presents a co-creation model that enables researchers to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including users, throughout the duration of a study. This approach can lead to a transition in defining the roles of stakeholders, such as users, from participants to co-researchers. This presents a scenario whereby the boundaries between research and participation become blurred and ethical considerations may become complex. However, the time and resources that are required to conduct co-creation within academia can lead to greater impact and benefit the people that the research aims to serve.

AbstractSingapore currently has one of highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia. To curb the further spread of COVID-19, Singapore government announced a temporary nationwide lockdown (circuit breaker). In view of restrictions of patients’ mobility and the enforcement of safe distancing measures, usual in-person visits were discouraged. Here we describe how diabetes care delivery was ad hoc redesigned applying a telehealth strategy. We describe a retrospective assessment of subjects with diabetes, with and without COVID-19 infection, during the circuit breaker period of 7th April to 1st June 2020 managed through Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s telehealth platform. The virtual health applications consisted of telephone consultations, video telehealth visits via smartphones, and remote patient monitoring. The TTSH team intensively managed 298 diabetes patients using a telehealth strategy. The group comprised of (1) 84 inpatient COVID-19 patients with diabetes who received virtual diabetes education and blood glucose management during their hospitalisation and follow-up via phone calls after discharge and (2) 214 (n=192 non-COVID; n=22 COVID-positive) outpatient subjects with suboptimal glycaemic control who received intensive diabetes care through telehealth approaches. Remote continuous glucose monitoring was applied in 80 patients to facilitate treatment adjustment and hypoglycaemia prevention. The COVID-19 pandemic situation mooted an immediate disruptive transformation of healthcare processes. Virtual health applications were found to be safe, effective and efficient to replace current in-person visits.

People with disabilities is one of the most marginal groups in today's society so ensur-ing their rights and needs is a great challenge for policy makers and planners. This paper reviews the most important agreements and laws about disability in the European Union and Hungary, as well as the New Hungary Development Plan. Later the paper also reveals the spatial differences of the people with disabilities in Hungary on the regional scale and presents relationship between the state of development and the ratio of disabled people. In comparing the data of the country and the South Great Plain the charasteristics of the dis-abled population in age, qualification and employment are also highlighted. Finally there is a short summary of the accessible and non-accessible public buildings in Békés County and Békéscsaba.
