The process of selecting cultivars is discussed from the viewpoints of both plant breeder and crop evaluation committee. Although there are differences in emphasis, both are faced with difficulties in selecting quantitatively on antagonistic traits. A general unweighted multivariate procedure is outlined, including suggestions for adaption to particular circumstances. An example is given of the proposed multivariate performance index for identifying superior performing corn hybrids.Key words: Antagonistic traits, multivariate selection, corn hybrids

The main objective of this paper is present a novel method to choice a certain wind turbine for a specific site by using normalized power and capacity factor curves. The site matching is based on identifying the optimum turbine rotation speed parameters from turbine performance index (TPI) curve, which is obtained from the higher values of normalized power and capacity factor curves. Wind Turbine Performance Index a new ranking parameter, is defined to optimally match turbines to wind site. The relations (plots) of normalized power, capacity factor, and turbine performance index versus normalized rated wind speed are drawn for a known value of Weibull shape parameter of a site, thus a superior method is used for Weibull parameters estimation which is called Equivalent Energy Method (EEM).

We present an empirical study of the Aumann-Serrano performance index for multi-period gambles when the underlying stochastic process is assumed to be a normal mixture process with time-varying volatility. We compare the Aumann-Serrano performance index for multi-period gambles with that for one-period gambles as well as the Sharpe ratio. Our empirical study is obtained using a selection of U.S. stock data and shows evaluation of a selection of stocks becomes more distinct in multi-period gambles than in one-period gambles in the sense that a favorable evaluation score becomes even better in multi-period gambles than in one-period gambles while an unfavorable evaluation score becomes even worse in multi-period gambles than in one-period gambles.

For the same controlled process, different controller is radically different in control effect. Aimed at the puzzle of being difficult to select the controller for the incompatibility among control performance index, the paper proposed a sort of improved PSO algorithm. Based on the construction of objective function in multi-performance index parameter, the algorithm could quickly search and converge to control parameter in global optimal extremum corresponded to each controller and single out the controller through performance comparison excellently. In the paper, it took the controller selection of wastewater treatment system as an example, designed the algorithm of multi-modal HSIC controller of DO parameter, made the experiment of system simulation, and the simulation demonstrated that the HSIC controller could be stronger in robustness and better in dynamical and steady control quality compared with improved PID controller. The research result shows that it is reasonable and applicable to optimize selection of controller.

Performance indices can be used to model the relative structural efficiency of different cross-sectional shapes. Performance indices have been previously defined mainly for structural cross-sections that are scaled proportionally in size. This paper extends the method of performance indices by allowing scaling of cross-sections in any direction. A novel feature of the method described in this paper is the inclusion of the space envelope as a design parameter. The first part of the paper gives a derivation of the general solution for the performance index. The second part presents a graphical selection procedure and discusses the efficiency limits of cross-sections due to buckling instability. It concludes with a case study to demonstrate the method.

The conditions and methods for constructing reliable QSARs are revised in relation to each component of a QSAR study: the selection of a training set out of a QSAR compatible series, the collection of data pertinent to the descriptors matrix (X) and to the effects matrix (Y), the analysis of data to connect X to Y by a regression model, and the validation of the model. In discussing these conditions, attention is given to the constraints that arise from the theoretical foundation of QSARs as analogy models of local validity and to the complexity and limited knowledge about the mechanisms of action. Hence, emphasis is placed on the need and importance to adopt multivariate methods for dealing with (1) the characterization of the structures, (2) the selection of a representative set of training compounds, and (3) analysis of the data. It is finally shown that the same integrated multivariate approach applies to the modeling of biological activities and other properties—chemical and biological—as well as to the modeling of correlations between batteries of data. The role of QSAR in risk assessment is addressed in the second part of the article. The framework of a strategy for an efficient screening assessment of toxic substances through the modeling of their exposure and toxicity-related properties is outlined. Applications of the strategy are reported that deal with two series of compounds. Examples of toxicity and persistency models are illustrated.

The development of Information Technology has a huge impact on various aspects of life, ranging from government, administration, economics, and education. Regarding the issue of education in particular, the use of information technology will bring very good changes in the education system that will be developed to be delivered. With the existence of computer technology as a support in the transmission of data and information has become the needs of all humans, so that information information needed can be obtained quickly and accurately. In fact, one of the most important factors in the problem of information technology is network problems or media access that become a bridge between learning resources and those involved in the learning process. The Teacher Performance Assessment process in the Composite Performance index (CPI) method is very good in developing the level of knowledge in ordinary people, so that the utilization of information technology can be maximally useful at every level of society.
