Introduction: Stroke patients rely heavily on family on decision-making for health actions should be done. The family members were found to have attitudes that are not right in doing in-home care for it is associated with knowledge of family low. On other side, the family knowledge level would lead in readiness of taking care of family members suffering from stroke with better. Based on the variation of knowledge level and influence, the researchers are interested to do literature review regarding the level of stroke knowledge on the patients families after the stroke last less than 1 year. Methods: The study aimed to review stroke knowledge level on the patients families after the stroke last attack less than 1 year. This study was a literature review conducted based on the issue, methodology, similarities and proposal advanced research. Search articles used EBSCO, google scholar, SINTA (Science and Technology Index), science direct, clinical key, and Scopus with the publication of the last 5-10 years. Results: The result showed that level of knowledge of post-stroke patients families with the last attacked less than a year from the ten articles that have been analyzed, 6 articles majority was still low with the range 63,8%-100% and 4 articles was high knowledge with the range 58%-74%. The majority low level of knowledge 3 articles was from India. Factors that affect the level of family knowledge about stroke were the education provision, education level and age. Conclusion: The stroke knowledge level in patients families post-stroke with the attacks last less than 1 year, the majority still in the low category so that expected health workers especially the nurses in giving health education on patients and families.

Objective Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Stroke patients require longterm care for better outcome. Most often family members are the back bone of the service provided to people affected by stroke. Stroke patients and their caregivers are known to have large gaps in stroke knowledge and have suboptimal personal health behaviors, thereby putting the patient at high risk for complications. Our study was designed to explore the stroke care awareness among stroke patients' caregivers. Methods 50 stroke caregivers aged >18 years from neurology ward of College of Medical Sciences-Teaching Hospital were selected by non-probability purposive sampling from June 2012 to July 2012. Questionnaire focusing basic stroke care was prepared by researchers with the help of literature and a neurophysician. Validity and reliability of the tools were tested and data collected. Analysis of collected data was done using SPSS 16.0.Results The mean age of the respondents was 40 years (range: 20-80 years). Thirty-nine (78%) were either spouse or children. Thirty-eight (76%) caregivers were literate. Overall, 27 (54%) caregivers had low level of awareness regarding stroke care and mean knowledge score was 23.7.Conclusion This study has revealed the existence of low level of stroke care awareness amongst stroke caregivers. Interventional education program oriented to address this important yet neglected area can improve the stroke care in countries like Nepal where recent advancement for stroke management is lacking.  Journal of College of Medical Sciences-Nepal, 2013, Vol-9, No-3, 1-8

Abstract Stroke has become a major disease seriously threating human health due to its high morbidity, mortality and disability. Rehabilitation nursing care for stroke patients has always been a key part of clinical care. The neurological nursing managers should pay high attention to the issue about how to more effectively improve the level of nurses’ rehabilitation nursing on stroke patients. Therefore, this paper investigates the current cognition of neurological nurses about stroke knowledge, attitude and behaviour, and then analyses the factors affecting the knowledge, attitude and behaviour of stroke in the nurses, in order to provide better nursing services for stroke patients, and improve their nursing quality. The findings show that the different cognitions of nurses about their role have different effects on the knowledge, attitudes and behavioural levels of the neurological nurses; the nurses with more types of roles have better knowledge and behavioural levels of stroke.

Abstract Objectives:This study aimed to investigate the mediating roles of coping styles and stroke knowledge between social support and uncertainty in illness among patients with primary stroke in China. Methods:The total of 204 Chinese primary stroke patients recruited using convenience sampling were asked to answer Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale for Adult(MUIS-A), Stroke Knowledge Questionnaire(SKQ), Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS), and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaires (MCMQ). Demographics characteristics of the patients were presented using descriptive statistics. We reported the relationship between the study variables using Pearson’s Correlation Coefficients. We performed structural equation modeling to estimate the mediator effect of coping styles and stroke knowledge between social support and uncertainty in illness. Results: The results showed that 92% of patients with primary stroke had moderate above level of uncertainty in illness, with a mean score 75.04 (SD=9.61).Uncertainty was positively associated with coping styles (r=0.232, P<0.01), and negatively associated with social support(r=-0.237, P<0.01) and stroke knowledge (r=-0.386, P<0.01).The structural equation model indicated that the coping styles(19.8% of total effect) and stroke knowledge (38.5% of total effect)respectively acted as mediator role between social support and uncertainty in illness. Conclusions:Most patients with primary stroke present moderate above level of uncertainty in illness. stroke knowledge and coping styles were important mediating factors in the pathway between coping styles and uncertainty in illness. Our findings suggest the provision of stroke knowledge and training of coping styles for patients with primary stroke could alleviate their uncertainty in illness.

Abstract The syndrome of unilateral neglect, typified by a lateralized attention bias and neglect of contralateral space, is an important cause of morbidity and disability after a stroke. In this review, we discuss the challenges that face researchers attempting to elucidate the mechanisms and effectiveness of rehabilitation treatments. The neglect syndrome is a heterogeneous disorder, and it is not clear which of its symptoms cause ongoing disability. We review current methods of neglect assessment and propose logical approaches to selecting treatments, while acknowledging that further study is still needed before some of these approaches can be translated into routine clinical use. We conclude with systems-level suggestions for hypothesis development that would hopefully form a sound theoretical basis for future approaches to the assessment and treatment of neglect.
