     Experimental investigation of vapor compression refrigeration system performance using Nano-refrigerant is presented in this work. Nano-refrigerant was prepared in current work by mixing 50 nanometers diameter of copper oxide CuO nanoparticles with Polyolester lubrication oil and added to the compressor of the refrigeration system to be mixed with pure refrigerant R-134a during its circulation through refrigeration system. Three concentrations (0.1%, 0.25%, and 0.4%) of CuO-R134 a Nano-refrigerant are used to study the performance of the refrigeration system test rig and to investigate the effect of using Nano-refrigerant as a working fluid compared with pure refrigerant R-134a. The results showed that, the increasing in concentration of CuO nanoparticles in the Nano-refrigerant will significantly enhance the performance of the refrigeration system, as adding nanoparticles will increase the thermal conductivity, heat transfer and improve the thermo-physical properties of Nano-refrigerant. Investigation of performance parameters for refrigeration system using Nano-refrigerant with 0.4% concentration compared with that for pure refrigerant R-134a shows that, Nano-refrigerant has reflect higher performance in range of 10% and 1.5% increase in COP and refrigeration effect respectively and 7% reduction in power consumption for refrigeration system. It can be concluded that, Nano-refrigerants can be efficiently and economically feasible to be used in the vapor compression refrigeration systems.

This paper describes an experimental investigation into the effects of geometrical variations on ejector system performance when the driving nozzle includes delta mixing tabs. Mixing tabs have been shown to provide good mixing performance with comparable back-pressure penalties to other types of enhanced mixing nozzles. The performance parameters of most interest are pumping, mixing, and back-pressure. Geometric parameters studied include standoff distance, mixing-tube diameter, and tab angle. Experimental testing showed significant performance improvements in mixing and pumping with a decrease in tab angle. Maximum mixing was found to occur with tab angles positioned at 120°. Exceptional mixing was also observed with increased standoff. Back-pressure was shown to increase with increasing standoff and decreasing tab angle, but was not affected by mixing-tube diameter. In addition, a zone of recirculation was identified at the entrance to the mixing-tube. This zone is thought to have an influence on ejector performance.

Abstract This paper proposes a novel cogeneration system based on Kalina cycle and absorption refrigeration system to meet the design requirements of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, which is efficiently satisfy the power and cooling demands of a maritime ship at the same time. Unlike most of the combined systems, this cogeneration system is highly coupled and realizes cogeneration without increasing the system complexity too much. The basic ammonia mass fraction of this novel system is increased, so that the ammonia concentration of ammonia-water steam from the separator can be higher, which contributes to lower refrigerating temperature and thus less heat loss in the distillation process. In addition, higher ammonia concentration solution makes overheating easier, which improves the thermal efficiency. Moreover, the system has two recuperators to make further improvement of the thermal efficiency. Thermodynamic models are developed to investigate the system performance and parametric analysis is conducted to figure out the effects of including working fluid temperature at the outlet of the evaporator, working fluid temperature at superheater outlet, mass fraction of ammonia in basic solution, turbine inlet pressure, temperature of cooling water at the inlet of condensers and the refrigeration evaporation temperature on the system performance. Furthermore, the cogeneration system is optimized with genetic algorithm to obtain the best performance, which achieves 333.00kW of net power output, 28.83 kW of cooling capacity and 21.81% of thermal efficiency. Finally, the performance of the proposed system is compared with an optimized recuperative organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system and an optimized Kalina cycle system 34 (KCS34) using the same heat source. The results show that the thermal efficiency and power output of the novel cogeneration system is 3.89% and 1.05% higher than that of the recuperative ORC system and KCS34 system respectively.

An experimental investigation was conducted and a test facility constructed to measure the capillary heat transport limit in small triangular grooves, similar to those used in micro heat pipes. Using methanol as the working fluid, the maximum heat transport and unit effective area heat transport were experimentally determined for ten grooved plates with varying groove widths, but identical apex angles. The experimental results indicate that there exists an optimum groove configuration, which maximizes the capillary pumping capacity while minimizing the combined effects of the capillary pumping pressure and the liquid viscous pressure losses. When compared with a previously developed analytical model, the experimental results indicate that the model can be used accurately to predict the heat transport capacity and maximum unit area heat transport when given the physical characteristics of the working fluid and the groove geometry, provided the proper heat flux distribution is known. The results of this investigation will assist in the development of micro heat pipes capable of operating at increased power levels with greater reliability.

The purpose of this research is to know the improvement of car air conditioner system performance using an ejector. The study was conducted on a car engine with power 100 PS (74 kW) @ 5000 rpm. The test procedure is carried out under two conditions: the normal refrigeration cycle mode and the refrigeration cycle mode with the ejector. The working fluid used in the refrigeration cycle is R-134a. Performance data was measured on engine revolutions ranging from 1500 - 3000 rpm. Finally, the results showed that ejector usage on AC system generates an increase in the refrigeration effect and coefficient of performance (COP) of 25% and 22%, respectively. This has implications to better cooling capacity and compressor work that is lighter.
