Scholarship on the place of the HIV/AIDS crisis in urban geographies of sexual minority activism has powerfully insisted on the importance of community organising as a response to state and societal failures and to their homophobic, AIDS phobic and morally conservative underpinnings. This paper extends this scholarship by examining the urban social geographies of exclusion produced by such community organising efforts. It draws on the perspectives of long-term survivors of HIV/AIDS (LTS) in Vancouver to highlight the differentiated care geographies of HIV/AIDS that resulted from the racialised, classed and gendered politics and urban imaginations enacted by gay and allied HIV/AIDS organising. Though LTS networks, spaces and politics of care and community were more extended than Vancouver’s gay community during the 1980s and 1990s, the centring of the West End gay village in many community-led responses to HIV/AIDS resulted in LTS geographies outside the West End being excluded from important systems of care and community. LTS narratives of the city at the time of the ‘gay disease’ thus tell an urban politics of sexual and health activisms as shaped not only by processes of heteronormativity and homophobia but also of racially, colonially and class-inflected homonormative urban imaginaries.

Abstract: The mass media have always had a great influence on the construction of public opinion. This has been demonstrated with any major contemporary problem, such as HIV / AIDS, whose presence in the films has served to raise awareness and image about the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This work aims to know how HIV is represented in the films released between 1981 and 1991. That is, during the first decade since the identification of the first clinical case of this virus. For this, four productions have been analyzed: An Early Frost, Parting Glances, The Fly and Longtime Companion. The analysis of the content of these films has allowed us to determine how HIV was presented. On the one hand, from the social perspective, it was observed that in all the films the fears and prejudices towards said virus become visible. In addition, HIV was associated (almost) only with the gay community. In contrast, it could be seen that the medical procedures and the forms of HIV transmission shown were correct, with greater precision and realism in the films released in the final years of the analysis period. Keywords: health; cinema; mass media; HIV; social stigma.

IntroductionDeaths from HIV/AIDS have long been of concern to the gay community, but less attention has focused on smoking-attributable deaths despite the relatively high smoking rates among gay and bisexual men. This study compared deaths from HIV/AIDS with smoking-attributable deaths among California gay and bisexual men from 2005 to 2050.MethodsSmoking-attributable fractions (SAFs) were estimated using smoking prevalence for gay and bisexual men from the 2011–2014 California Health Interview Surveys and published relative risks of death. Smoking-attributable deaths were calculated by multiplying the SAFs by deaths among gay and bisexual men. Deaths from HIV/AIDS among men who have sex with men was obtained from the California Department of Public Health. Future deaths from smoking and HIV/AIDS were projected using regression equations based on time trends.ResultsFrom 2005 to 2014, smoking caused over 6800 deaths among gay and bisexual men, while nearly 9500 died from HIV/AIDS. Mortality from both causes has been falling, but deaths from HIV/AIDS have been falling more rapidly. Projections suggest that in the mid-2040s, more gay/bisexual men will die from smoking than from HIV/AIDS.ConclusionSmoking will surpass HIV/AIDS as a cause of death among gay and bisexual men in California within a few decades. The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community was highly effective in drawing attention and resources to the fight against HIV/AIDS, saving untold lives by hastening effective treatments. Lessons learnt in the fight against AIDS should be used to help fight the tobacco epidemic.

Based on the analysis of the AIDS Commission (KPA) in West Bandung District until July 2019, there were 379 cases of HIV/AIDS with 56 new cases. As many as 53% are involved in free sexual relations, while 52% occur at the age of 21-29 years and 33% are found in the sexual or gay community which also triggers HIV/AIDS transmission and becomes the second largest after heterosexuality. To achieve success, a three zero program needs to be innovative and continuous to increase knowledge about HIV/AIDS in adolescents through counseling to prevent the spread of infection early on. The movement of 1000 Millennial Youth Caring PLWHA is expected to be able to introduce and publish Youth Reproductive Health to prevent sexual freedom that can prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS transmission because adolescent behavior is influenced by their knowledge and attitude regarding reproductive health and HIV / AIDS. The target of this movement is high school teenagers in West Bandung District. The first activity was carried out at MA Al-Mukhtariyah Mande KBB. The activity was carried out in the form of counseling using PowerPoint media, leaflets and videos. Pre-test and post-test carried out before and after the activity which is one form of evaluation of the direct output of this activity. Pre-test and post-test results showed a significant increase from the average pre-test results of 63.8 and post-test results of 89.4. This shows that counseling activities are effective in increasing students' knowledge about HIV and AIDS (p <0.005).

The white church and black needs: Is there still salt left in the salt cellar? Remarks on the involvement of the white church with the HIV/Aids pandemic in South Africa. There are reasons why the churches in the white community of South Africa are not really concerned or involved in the HIV/Aids pandemic, which is primarily ravaging the Black community. This may, however, be regarded as the "shibolet" for the credibility of the church. The article emphasises the need for the (White) church to listen in three directions: to understand its own identity, to listen (again) to the will of the Lord, and to listen to the needs of the Black community (especially in terms of HIV/Aids). Then the church should become involved. This involvement must be above else in the local communities, in the practical ways, which are indicated, in the area of short-term help, but also empowerment and liberation.
