Realization of food defense and food security standards in Polish maritime transport

This article touches on the issue of Food Defense and Food Security in Polish maritime transport. It seems indispensable to refer to the food defense as any action that the company must take to prevent the intentional contamination of food products by biological, chemical, physical or radiological factors which cannot be expected based on hazard analysis and which may arise in connection with human activities as a source of contamination (FDA). Temperature-controlled food transport is one of the most critical elements in today's supply chain, which is reflected in an increase in the demand for fresh and frozen products. In the case of sea transport, this will require temperature control in refrigerated containers. The effect of research on the impact of the stream of descending air and its free passage on the duration of storage of natural food products, which are presented in the article, are guidelines contained in military procedures.

The purpose of the article is to carry out an analytical assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the level of food security in Ukraine. Research methods. The research was based on general scientific and economic methods, the creative heritage of the founders of economic science, publications of Ukrainian and foreign scientists on the impact of quarantine restrictions related to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic on the level of food security of the country, regulatory legal acts, data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, electronic resources and other sources. The monographic approach is used to analyze the dynamics of the actual consumption of agri-food products and the level of food independence for individual agri-food products. Normative and positive approaches are used to highlight real risks and threats to food security. A number of techniques of abstract-logical tools made it possible to make a scientific and applied generalization of the material presented, to formulate intermediate and final conclusions and proposals. Research results. An analytical assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the consumption of agri-food products and the level of food independence for individual agri-food products has been carried out. It has been proven that Ukraine produces enough food to ensure healthy nutrition for citizens. It has been determined that due to the low purchasing power of the population, groups of citizens with low incomes have limited access to essential agricultural and food products. In the medium and long term, there will be a shortage of food resources and global food inflation, the situation in agricultural markets will remain unstable, and trade will continue to develop under the influence of not only competition, but also political factors. Scientific novelty. The theoretical and methodological provisions, scientific, methodological and practical approaches to determining the factors of influence of quarantine measures and the spread of COVID-19 to the level of food security of the state have been substantiated. Assessing the impact of quarantine measures and the spread of COVID-19 on food security made it possible to identify the main risks of ensuring the country's food security. Practical significance. The applied aspects of the study can be taken into account in the formation of programs for the socio-economic development of the agri-food sector of Ukraine, which will increase the effectiveness of state initiatives aimed at ensuring food security of the state and increase the country's readiness for force majeure threats. The article provides a review of world data on the characteristics of the chemical composition of tomato fruits and the impact on their quality of the soil and climatic conditions of cultivation, varietal characteristics and maturity. It is noted that the current regulatory and technical documentation in the Russian Federation does not provide for the determination of functional substances. It has been shown that tomato fruits are a promising plant-growing raw material for the production of functional food products and directions for obtaining lycopene-containing products, canned foods, in particular, from tomato fruits, have been determined. The types of canned food and tomato products containing the highest concentrations of lycopene have been established. The regularity of increasing the concentrations of lycopene in tomato products with various methods of heat treatment is substantiated. The irreplaceable physiological significance of lycopene for the human body is proved, due to its antioxidant properties and the lack of the possibility of its synthesis. The biochemical nature of lycopene as a carotenoid and pigment is analyzed. The progressive foreign technologies of tomato processing have been studied, allowing to reduce the economic costs of production, increase the duration of storage of products containing extremely high concentrations of lycopene. The necessity of developing domestic food products of physiological importance, available for consumption in baby and diet food, is substantiated. It is proved that the Republic of Dagestan has a high climatic and resource potential for growing hybrid varieties of tomatoes containing high concentrations of lycopene and the mass fraction of dry matter necessary for the rational production of canned tomatoes.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to empirically study the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on food prices in China and provides policy implications for crisis management for other countries who are still under the crisis of COVID-19 and for the future in China and beyond as well.Design/methodology/approachThis paper first designed a theoretical model of market equilibrium, which shows that the impact of COVID-19 on food prices is linked to the impact difference on demand and supply in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Then we collected the representative prices data for four major food products (rice, wheat flour, pork and Chinese cabbages) from three provinces (Shandong as a producing base, Beijing as a consumption base and Hubei as the epicenter), and set up an iGARCH model.Findings(1) No significant impact on rice and wheat flour prices, (2) significantly positive impact on cabbages prices and (3) various impact on pork prices. Note that the outbreak and the severity of COVID-19 have different impacts. The outbreak itself may have a relatively large impact on pork and cabbage prices, which may result from social panic, while the magnitude of the impact of severity is relatively small, and some are negative, perhaps due to more reduced demand during the quarantine.Practical implicationsChina always puts food security in its prior position of policy agenda and has been preparing for the worst scenario of the food security crisis. In the anti-COVID-19 campaign, China's local governments developed many measures to ensure food provision for each consumer. Hence, the impact of COVID-19 on food prices is minor. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 crisis could cause social panic in some scenarios where consumers may hoard food. Eventually, it may form a vicious cycle to push up food prices. This will be a challenging policy issue in crisis management for almost all governments.Originality/valueThis paper provides empirical evidence on the impact of COVID-19 on food prices in China. China has basically contained the COVID-19 in the whole country, and no major food crisis occurred during this process. The results will provide information on crisis management for other countries that are still under the COVID-19 crisis, and for future China and beyond.

The article is devoted to the assessment of the impact of the food industry of the Trans-Baikal territory on the food security of the region. A study based on the actual state of the industry showed that its development is impossible without improving the situation in agriculture. The presence of a large volume of products imported into the Trans-Baikal Territory indicates a strong dependence of its economy on external supplies. A partial solution of the problem is possible on condition of creation of agro-holdings in the region covering the full cycle production of food products from cultivation of raw materials to reception of final product.

The crisis represents a disorder that in contemporary society increasingly occurs. Crises are often the result of some earlier solutions. The situation in agricultural production in Croatia has been negative for years. Inadequate tax and high administrative burdens act to discourage the production process and impede the competitiveness of farmers. Furthermore, the measures taken to create added value are not enough, they can even be said to be wrong. The current crisis Covide-19 caused a disturbance on the market in terms of trends of supply and demand. The crisis period will show whether the country has an adequate strategy to overcome all the economic problems ahead. The aim of this paper was to analyze the readiness of the Republic of Croatia for crisis periods in terms of food security by analyzing the volume of agricultural production, the balance of foreign trade of agri-food products as well as the structure of total agri-food product trade. The determined trend of increasing deficits in agri-food products in foreign trade balance, particularly with EU countries implies the state's unenviable position regarding the food security indicating the need for implementation of adequate measures in the direction of the market organization and to facilitate investment in sustainable agriculture production systems.


The impact of maritime transport in the financial improvement of any nation cannot be over-accentuated. In the meantime, the result of the maritime exercises on the earth has been a worry and the subsequent impact on the economy. Nigeria is a developing country and could too have a portrayal as an import-oriented country; hence, it depends vigorously on sea transport for the importation of products. This study targets analyzing the connection between marine pollution, maritime transport, and financial development in Nigeria. Time arrangement information that spread over from the year 2000 to 2018 was used, and Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) model was utilized for the investigation. The discoveries from this examination uncover a long-run relationship running from marine pollution to economic growth. It was additionally found from this examination that a critical short-run relationship exists between maritime transportation and environmental pollution. Additionally, huge long-run causal effect of sea transport was found in the financial development of Nigeria. Further investigation from the examination demonstrates a long-run unidirectional connection between environmental pollution and financial development; and exchange and economic growth, while the bi-directional causal relationship won between maritime transport and economic growth. The investigation, in this manner, proposes that Nigeria ought to improve both environmentally and economically as a result of its negative job in ecological quality is more overwhelming than its advantages in monetary development.

The food safety security (FSS) concept is perceived as an early warning system for minimizing food safety (FS) breaches, and it functions in conjunction with existing FS measures. Essentially, the function of FS and FSS measures can be visualized in two parts: (i) the FS preventive measures as actions taken at the stem level, and (ii) the FSS interventions as actions taken at the root level, to enhance the impact of the implemented safety steps. In practice, along with FS, FSS also draws its support from (i) legislative directives and regulatory measures for enforcing verifiable, timely, and effective compliance; (ii) measurement systems in place for sustained quality assurance; and (iii) shared responsibility to ensure cohesion among all the stakeholders namely, policy makers, regulators, food producers, processors and distributors, and consumers. However, the functional framework of FSS differs from that of FS by way of: (i) retooling the vulnerable segments of the preventive features of existing FS measures; (ii) fine-tuning response systems to efficiently preempt the FS breaches; (iii) building a long-term nutrient and toxicant surveillance network based on validated measurement systems functioning in real time; (iv) focusing on crisp, clear, and correct communication that resonates among all the stakeholders; and (v) developing inter-disciplinary human resources to meet ever-increasing FS challenges. Important determinants of FSS include: (i) strengthening international dialogue for refining regulatory reforms and addressing emerging risks; (ii) developing innovative and strategic action points for intervention {in addition to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) procedures]; and (iii) introducing additional science-based tools such as metrology-based measurement systems.
