The International Thematic Proceedia titled „Psychology in the world of science” is a publication from the 16th International Conference “Days of Applied Psychology” held on September 25th & 26th 2020 at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Niš. This is a traditional annual nonprofit conference which has been organized since 2005 by the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Niš, with the support and co-financing of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. The conference started with the idea of gathering researchers and practitioners who discuss the link between science and practice in different psychological areas. From the very start, this gathering has welcomed international participants, and year after year this number is on the rise. This scientific publication contains 18 peer-reviewed articles which can be classified as original scientific papers and as review papers. The authors of these manuscripts come from six countries: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Republic of Serbia.

<p>In this work we analyse variations in VLF/LF radio signal amplitudes recorded by the INFREP network in the period 16 November – 6 December, 2019 characterized by very intensive seismic activities in the Balkan peninsula, Crete, and Adriatic, Aegean and Black seas. Namely, 38 earthquakes with magnitude greater than 4.0 occurred in this area during the noticed period; the most intensive of them occurred on 26 and 27 November: three events in Albania (Mw= 6.4, 5.3, 5.1), one in Crete (Mw= 6), one in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mw= 5.4) and two in Adriatic sea (Mw= 5.4, 5.3). We study both long- and short- term variations that are already recorded in earlier studies. The long-term variations relate to changes in the amplitude intensities in periods of several days and their existence is shown in many previous studies. The recent analyses also indicate short-term variations in signal amplitude noises started about several tents of minutes before the earthquake (Nina et al. 2020). In this work, we analyse different areas using INFREP network, which allow us to study local changes in the atmosphere. In order to examine possible precursors we considered longer time started and ended 10 days before and after the most intensive of the considered earthquakes, respectively.</p><p>This research is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, under the projects 176002 and III44002.</p><p>References</p><p>Nina, A., S. Starting from basic theoretical insights into stress, the paper presents some techniques and ways of recognizing stress in migrant students, the competencies teachers need in order to work with children who are in a state of stress due to their migrant situation, and also some strategies, techniques and activities that should be implemented in the process of managing stress in migrant students in the education system. Particular emphasis is placed on the various forms of support for schools developed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. In this context the paper presents: The Professional Guidelines for the Inclusion of Refugee Students into the Education System, The Training Program for Reducing Stress in Migrant Situations through the implementation of these guidelines, as well as some results of the evaluation of the Program. In view of this, the paper highlights the importance of support for work with migrant children which the education system needs to provide to schools, and maps out some future activities that could contribute to this.

Abstract In accordance with priorities of sustainable development in Serbia, production and use of biomass is crucial for provision of annually renewable national sources of energy and for environmental quality conservation. Rural development has typically focused on improving agricultural production and promoting market orientation, however, as the examples of other countries in the EU accession process have shown (e.g. Slovakia), such an approach could threaten the survival of rural population. Biomass production is one of the key sectors with significant potential for diversification of rural economy. The results of multiannual research work supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia through national scientific projects and several international initiatives are summarized in this paper. The research activities focus on Miscanthus × giganteus Greef et Deu. The production potentials of miscanthus on fertile and degraded soils were investigated since 2009 in experimental plots established on moderate and extremely degraded lands in Serbia, applying various agrotechnical measures in different ecological conditions. The results show that fertile agricultural land as well as moderate degraded areas provide suitable conditions for miscanthus biomass and viable rhizomes production for energy and ecoremediation purposes.

The curriculum is the starting point for effective teaching planning. The outcome of the teaching process in secondary vocational schools depends, to a large extent, on the conception of the curriculum prescribed by state bodies, which is the case with most countries of the Western Balkans, including Serbia. The paper deals with the issue of English for specific purposes in secondary vocational schools, the representation of English for specific purposes in the curriculum of secondary vocational schools in Kosovo and Metohija, which are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. The research describes approaches to curriculum development and planning for English for specific purposes. The analysis of plans and programs for the English language showed that the needs of students of vocational secondary schools of technical orientation in terms of English for specific purposes are not fully met. The research defines the components that are important to include in order to harmonize goals, forms and educational activities that will improve students' knowledge and prepare them for future professional roles.

The subject of this paper is the analysis of cooperation between science and business in the Republic of Serbia. The main goal of the paper is to identify the level of cooperation, the achieved results and the scientific areas in which the cooperation is being carried out, through the analysis of the current state of cooperation between science and business. The paper should serve as the starting point for future research, where the effects of profitability of investments in science at macro and micro level will be evaluated. The analysis used the official data on the achieved results in scientific research activities from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, and data from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. The obtained results showed that Serbia has a potential in the science sector, but that it is not sufficiently used by the economy since researchers focus exclusively on the production of scientific work.

When it comes to article instruction in the EFL context no one is exempt from struggling with the process: neither the teachers, nor the students. Issues emerge not only because of the discrepancy between the students’ L1 and L2, but also because of the limited information contained in the textbooks pertaining to article suppliance. The rules found in textbooks mostly boil down to features related to noun type, and the potential accompanying article distribution patterns. However, focusing on only the morphosyntactic features of nouns, with little or no reference to the contextualized setting, further convolutes the issue. Taking into consideration the general lack of data pertaining to the teaching of articles in the early stages of EFL acquisition, this study investigates how articles are presented and practised in elementary-school EFL textbooks. A corpus of 20 textbooks was compiled (the English Plus, Messages, To the Top, Project and Discover English courses), recently approved for use in grades 5 to 8 by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, for qualitative analysis. The results show which features of article use (Quirk et al. 1985) are (under)represented in the EFL textbooks, which types of examples (contextualized vs stand-alone) predominate, whether article-oriented exercises vary across grades and their respec- tive textbooks, and what this tells us about current practices of article instruction. In line with the obtained results, changes are proposed to teaching articles in the Serbian EFL classroom.
