The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Organizational learning capability and firm innovativeness of manufacturing firms in the south-south of Nigeria. The study offers an empirical assessment of the relationship as based on its model – 4 null hypothetical statements are put forward. The research design adopted was the cross-sectional survey and data for this study was generated from managers and key personnel of the target organizations using structured questionnaire. The study adopted the Spearman’s rank order correlation in its assessment for the bivariate correlations between dimensions of organizational learning capability (managerial commitment and system orientation) and measures of firm innovativeness (propensity to create new products and propensity to create new processes). The findings reveal significant relationships between dimensions of organizational learning capability and the measures of firm innovativeness. In conclusion, it was stated that organizational learning capability, through dimensions such as managerial commitment and system orientation, offers the necessary support, orientation and knowledge control for enhancing firm innovativeness.

Several studies have been carried out in the past to find out how strategic planning and competitive advantage are connected and the causes of differences in competitive advantage among firms. Scholars have argued that competitive advantage can emanate from either internal or external sources and is usually in several forms which include; valuable resources, the position held within the industry, position within the marketplace, operating at lower costs than rival firms, differentiation, capabilities and dynamic capabilities. The debate on what causes differences in competitive advantage is still on. This study sought to establish the moderating effect of organizational structure on the relationship between strategic planning and competitive advantage of large manufacturing firms in Kenya. The study was underpinned by the competitive advantage typology of Michael Porter, the resource-based theory, dynamic capabilities theory, and the contingency theory. The study used a positivist research paradigm and a cross-sectional survey design. This was a census study from 124 large manufacturing firms in Kenya and data was collected from 122 of the firms representing a response rate of 98.4%. The findings indicate that overall strategic planning has a statistically significant influence on competitive advantage and that organizational structure partially moderates the relationship between strategic planning and competitive advantage. The study recommended that once the strategy of the firm has been changed, an organization structure that fits the needs of the new strategy should be put in place. This is because in the absence of an organization structure that fits the needs of the firm, it will be difficult for the firm to achieve and sustain a position of competitive advantage.

Innovativeness in the tourism and hospitality sector is essential for competitiveness and survival. Leadership plays a key role in promoting (or hampering) firm innovativeness. This article intended to examine the role of transformational leadership (TL) and organization citizenship behavior (OCB) on Spanish tourism firms’ innovativeness (OI). It also investigated whether firm size and age moderate the relationship between TL, OI, and OCB. The cross-sectional survey method was used to collect data from 329 middle-level managers in Spanish tourism firms. The findings of the data revealed that TL and OCB have significant impacts on firm innovativeness; also, OCB mediates the relationship between TL and firm innovativeness. Firm size and age moderate the relationship between TL and firm innovativeness; also, firm size moderates the relationship between TL and OCB. It was found that large firms were more innovative than small ones; also, younger firms showed a higher level of innovativeness than old firms. Managerial and specific firm size and age implications were provided.

The Analysis comprised of the univariate (single variable assessments) bivariate (test for hypothetical relationships) while the bivariate analysis was carried out using the Spearman’s rank order correlation coefficient at a 0.05 level of significance.Findings: Findings from the study revealed that workplace justice significantly impacts on the measures of OCB (altruism and sportsmanship) and also organizational culture was revealed to also significantly moderate the relationship between workplace justice and organizational citizenship behaviour in Deposit Money Banks in Rivers State. The hypotheses were tested using the Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Statistics with the aid of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS version 23.0). The result showed that there is a significant relationship between conscientiousness and employee commitment in manufacturing firms in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The study therefore recommends that management of manufacturing companies in the process of recruiting, employers should look out for and give preference to people with conscientious traits, because, they do not just carry out their tasks well, but they also perform them well, reduce turnover and are committed to the goals of the organisation.

This study sought to advance knowledge and was based on the premise that strategic planning influences competitive advantage both directly and also indirectly by way of the mediating influence of employee behaviour and the moderating effect of organizational structure. The study was underpinned by the competitive advantage typology/theory, the resource-based theory, dynamic capabilities theory, goal-setting theory and contingency theory. The study used a positivist research paradigm and a cross-sectional survey design. Data collected from 122 large manufacturing firms was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Hypotheses were tested using both simple and multivariate regression analysis as well as hierarchical analysis for mediating and moderating effects. The findings indicate that overall strategic planning has a statistically significant influence on competitive advantage and that employee behaviour completely mediates the relationship between strategic planning and competitive advantage while organizational structure has a partial moderating effect between strategic planning and competitive advantage. In addition, the joint influence of employee behaviour and organizational structure is different from the influence of individual variables on the relationship between strategic planning and competitive advantage. The outcomes from this research lend support to previous enquiries and support all the theories used to underpin the study.

The aim of the present study was to determine whether normal sleepers with vulnerability to insomnia, via high sleep reactivity, demonstrate more sleep-related dysfunctional cognitions and behaviours and poorer psychological health compared to those who are not vulnerable. Further, the influence of stress on the relationship between sleep reactivity and psychological health was also examined. A cross-sectional survey of 737 young adult ‘normal’ sleepers from the general population was undertaken. Results indicated normal sleepers vulnerable to insomnia demonstrated more sleep-related dysfunctional cognitions and behaviours as well as poorer psychological health compared to those not vulnerable. Furthermore, the relationship between sleep reactivity and psychological health was moderated by perceived stress over the previous month and life events over the previous year. Therefore, identifying and supporting those who are vulnerable to insomnia may be a fruitful avenue for preventative public health campaign to mitigate both insomnia and poor psychological health.
