The article seeks to provide insights into the growing role of the research component within the higher education system as a key element in ensuring quality education and boosting student talent and potential. Given that modern society imposes new demands for a more skilled workforce, future professionals must demonstrate not only high-level professional competencies but also display well developed cognitive skills, independence, initiative and creative thinking. In the context of this study, a research competence is viewed as an integral personality trait which translates into the capacity and willingness to resolve research problems independently, mastering of research technology skills, recognition of the value of research and the ability to use it in the professional business settings. The dominant methodology of the study is to build a linear mathematical model that allows evaluating the readiness of student and post-graduates to conduct a research. The developed model provides the minimum, maximum and threshold values as well as diagnostic assessment indicators of the student readiness to perform research. In addition, the study presents a method to assess the readiness of student and post-graduates to research activities which was tested on the basis of the Hackathon Ecosystem of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. The survey held has revealed the structure of a research competence that consists of ten main elements (competencies) of readiness of student and post-graduates to conduct research. Processing the results of the questionnaire has enabled to calculate the weight of each element, their mathematical expectation values, the density of probability distribution, and the average value of all the necessary characteristics for research. The calculation results have verified that the priority competencies of student and post-graduates are motivation to research and the level of academic training. University student and post-graduate engagement into research activities is an integral part of academic training to tackle professional issues. Within the study process, student research practices involve problem-based learning, a professional focus of training through a wide range of problem solving activities, as well as encouraging enhanced creativity. The findings demonstrate that making use of the University Hackathon ecosystem tools will contribute to identifying the students’ and post-graduates’ propensity to research activities, building relevant skills and abilities of research competence.

The requirement of the time is to increase the level of the professional training aimed at the future Physics teachers who are able to master the ability to observe, plan and perform experiments, process measurement results, hypothesize and build models, set limits for their application, etc., which means that teaching Physics should be accompanied by research activity. The purpose of the conducted research is to form the future competence of physics teachers’ research competence in the process of studying the section "Molecular Physics and Thermodynamics" within the course of General Physics and to apply the gained experience in the organization of students’ research in the course of pedagogical practice. The theoretical analysis of the problem related to the formation of the research competence as well as the practical methods there were used these research methods: questioning, testing, organization of complex educational-research activities at lectures, practical and laboratory classes. The content and structure of the future Physics teachers’ research competence has been defined as a set of motivational, cognitive, operational research-centred, evaluative and reflexive components have been determined. The criteria and indicators have been identified for each of the components alongside with the levels of the research competence (low, medium and high) have been identified. At the ascertaining stage of the experiment, the students' unsatisfactory level of the research competence was determined according to the relevant indicators, namely: students did not want to fulfil the research tasks due to the lack of the information system, their abilities to plan and manage their research activities. To increase the level of the research competence at the formative stage of the experiment, the section of General Physics "Molecular Physics and Thermodynamics" was accompanied by the fulfilment of certain educational research tasks combined both the theoretical lecture material and experimental research material on each topic of the educational program which was mastered and assimilated when performing in nature-oriented and virtual laboratory works as well as in the process of solving these problems. While performing the research tasks of the complex content significantly increased the level of the students’ research competence according to all the indicators, as it was evidenced by the results of the educational research activities. The practical significance of the obtained results was determined by the fact that the system aimed at forming the research competence (on the example of the section of General Physics “Molecular Physics and Thermodynamics”) was developed and implemented in the educational process of training the future Physics teachers on the basis of the complex research activity. It is expedient that one should apply the experience gained within the platform of the formation of the future Physics teachers’ competence while mastering further sections of General Physics. Keeping to this approach, the idea of the content of Physics as a holistic system of universal knowledge, abilities, skills and place of research in the formation of research competence arises must be of great importance. Keywords: future Physics teachers, training, research competence.

Although there is extensive research literature on clinical skill competencies and the use of competency-based frameworks for clinical research, the appropriate methods to assess these competencies are not as well understood. Our goal in this systematic literature review is to identify, compare, and critique assessments of clinical research competencies. Articles were included in this review if they examined clinical investigators or clinical investigators in training, focused on research-based skills, and included some form of assessment of research-based competencies. A total of 76 articles were identified as part of the initial search; 16 met the criteria for inclusion. Two types of assessments of clinical research competence were identified: subjective self-assessments ( n = 13) and objective tests ( n = 6). These assessments covered a wide range of competencies, but there were no competency domains common to all. Most assessments had limited validation. Training was consistently associated with self-assessed competence but had little relationship to objective measures of competence. In contrast, experience was consistently associated with objectively assessed competence but not with self-assessed competence. These findings have important implications for those interested in assessing medical education programs. We describe a recommended standard for validity for assessments used for the purposes of summative program assessment.
