In-Game Photography: Creating New Realities through Video Game Photography

Computers and photography has had a long and complicated relationship throughout the years. As image processing and manipulating capabilities advanced on the computer front, photography re-birthed itself with digital cameras and digital imaging techniques. Development of interconnected social sharing networks like Instagram and Twitter feeds the photographers’/users’ thirst to show off their momentaneous “been there/seen that – capture the moment/share the moment” instincts. One other unlikely front emerged as an image processing power of the consumer electronics improved is “video game worlds” in which telematic travellers may shoot photographs in constructed fantasy worlds as if travelling in real life. While life-like graphics manufactured by the computers raise questions about authenticity and truthfulness of the image, the possible future of the photography as socially efficient visual knowledge is in constant flux. This article aims to reflect on today’s trends in in-game photography and tries to foresee how this emerging genre and its constructed realities will transpose the old with the new photographic data in the post-truth condition fostering for re-evaluation of photography truth-value. This article explores commonly discussed theories of violent video game effects: the social learning, mood management, and catharsis hypotheses. An experimental study was carried out to examine violent video game effects. In this study, 103 young adults were given a frustration task and then randomized to play no game, a nonviolent game, a violent game with good versus evil theme (i.e., playing as a good character taking on evil), or a violent game in which they played as a “bad guy.” Results indicated that randomized video game play had no effect on aggressive behavior; real-life violent video game-playing history, however, was predictive of decreased hostile feelings and decreased depression following the frustration task. Results do not support a link between violent video games and aggressive behavior, but do suggest that violent games reduce depression and hostile feelings in players through mood management.

Leukemia   disease   is one   of    the   leading   causes   of death   among   human. Its  cure  rate and  prognosis   depends   mainly   on  the  early  detection   and  diagnosis  of   the  disease. At  the  moment, identification  of  blood  disorders  is  through   visual  inspection  of  microscopic  images  by  examining  changes  like  texture, geometry, colour  and   statistical  analysis  of  images . This  project  aims  to  preliminary  of  developing  a  detection  of  leukemia  types  using   microscopic  blood  sample using MATLAB. Images  are  used  as  they  are  cheap  and  do  not  expensive  for testing  and  lab  equipment.

There is a growing need for expertise both in image analysis and in software engineering. To date, these two areas have been taught separately in an undergraduate computer and information science curriculum. However, we have found that introduction to image analysis can be easily integrated in data-structure courses without detracting from the original goal of teaching data structures. Some of the image processing tasks offer a natural way to introduce basic data structures such as arrays, queues, stacks, trees and hash tables. Not only does this integrated strategy expose the students to image related manipulations at an early stage of the curriculum but it also imparts cohesiveness to the data-structure assignments and brings them closer to real life. In this paper we present a set of programming assignments that integrates undergraduate data-structure education with image processing tasks. These assignments can be incorporated in existing data-structure courses with low time and software overheads. We have used these assignment sets thrice: once in a 10-week duration data-structure course at the University of California, Santa Barbara and the other two times in 15-week duration courses at the University of South Florida, Tampa.

Correct assessment of the remaining life of distributed systems such as pipeline systems (PS) with defects plays a crucial role in solving the problem of their integrity. Authors propose a methodology which allows estimating the random residual time (remaining life) of transition of a PS from its current state to a critical or limit state, based on available information on the sizes of the set of growing defects found during an in line inspection (ILI), followed by verification or direct assessment. PS with many actively growing defects is a physical distributed system, which transits from one physical state to another. This transition finally leads to failure of its components, each component being a defect. Such process can be described by a Markov process. The degradation of the PS (measured as monotonous deterioration of its failure pressure Pf (t)) is considered as a non-homogeneous pure death Markov process (NPDMP) of the continuous time and discrete states type. Failure pressure is calculated using one of the internationally recognized pipeline design codes: B13G, B31Gmod, DNV, Battelle and Shell-92. The NPDMP is described by a system of non-homogeneous differential equations, which allows calculating the probability of defects failure pressure being in each of its possible states. On the basis of these probabilities the gamma-percent residual life of defects is calculated. In other words, the moment of time tγ is calculated, which is a random variable, when the failure pressure of pipeline defect Pf (tγ) > Pop, with probability γ, where Pop is the operating pressure. The developed methodology was successfully applied to a real life case, which is presented and discussed.

Since psoriasis (PsO) is a chronic inflammatory disease, patients may experience a drug failure also with very effective drugs (i.e., secukinumab) and, consequently, dermatologists have two therapeutic options: switching or perform a combination therapy (rescue therapy) to save the drug that had decreased its efficacy. At the moment no studies focused on combination/rescue therapy of secukinumab, so we performed a 52-weeks multicenter retrospective observational study that involved 40 subjects with plaque psoriasis that experienced a secondary failure and were treated with combination therapy (ciclosporin (n = 11), MTX (n = 15), NB-UVB (n = 7) and apremilast (n = 7)). After 16 weeks of rescue/combination therapy, PASI and a DLQI varied respectively from 8 [7.0–9.0] and 13 [12.0–15.0], to 3 [2.8–4.0] and 3 [2.0–3.3]), suggesting a significant improvement of daily functionality and quality of life. Results were maintained at 52 weeks. No side effects were experienced during the study. Secukinumab remains a safety and effective drug for PsO patients also in the IL-23 and JAK inhibitors era. The rescue therapy is a valid therapeutic option in case of secukinumab secondary failure.

A new sole parameter probability distribution named the Tornumonkpe distribution has been derived in this paper. The new model is a blend of gamma (2,  and gamma(3  distributions. The shape of its density for different values of the parameter has been shown.  The mathematical expression for the moment generating function, the first three raw moments, the second and third moments about the mean, the distribution of order statistics, coefficient of variation and coefficient of skewness has been given. The parameter of the new distribution was estimated using the method of maximum likelihood. The goodness of fit of the Tornumonkpe distribution was established by fitting the distribution to three real life data sets. Using -2lnL, Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), and Akaike Information Criterion(AIC) as criterial for selecting the best fitting model, it was revealed that the new distribution outperforms the one parameter exponential, Shanker and Amarendra distributions for the data sets used.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present a study of digital technology approaches to image restoration. This process of image restoration is crucial in many areas such as satellite imaging, astronomical image & medical imaging where degraded images need to be repaired Personal images captured by various digital cameras can easily be manipulated by a variety of dedicated image processing algorithms [2]. Image restoration can be described as an important part of image processing technique. Image restoration has proved to be an active field of research in the present days. The basic objective is to enhance the quality of an image by removing defects and make it look pleasing [2]. In this paper, an image restoration algorithm based on the mean and median calculation of a pixel has been implemented. We focused on a certain iterative process to carry out restoration. The algorithm has been tested on different images with different percentage of salt and pepper noise. The improved PSNR and MSE values has been obtained. Legal regulation is caused by the necessity to provide legal order of social regulation. The legal order of regulation is provided by formal legal certainty of regulatory provisions (legal prescripts) and their legal substance. However, there exist relations, whose content, namely, subjective rights and juridical responsibilities of the parties are not strictly prescribed in the legislative norms. Because a legislator cannot foresee all the variety of social relations that may occur in real life and prescribe their formal and legal substance in corresponding legislative acts. In such cases, we usually talk about gaps in law, about the uncertainty of legal regulation. Gaps are taken for granted, considered as an obligatory element of any legal system. Nonetheless, whether there can be gaps in the public law, if in the public law sphere norms are created purposively? In public law, norms are created purposefully (with a goal in mind), public law institutions are artificially established and rationally modernized. The lack of a norm of a statute can mean the refusal of the legislator to legally regulate the question, at least at the moment. This is so-called in legal literature “qualified silence of the legislator” that should not be considered as a gap in law.
