A rapidly changing business environment requires firms to develop information systems that are more flexible, responsive, integrative and information rich. At the same time, it is also important to align the information systems with their core businesses processes. Review of literature of this study indicated the clear gaps existing in the development of Strategic Information Systems in general and particular in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSU's) in India. Thus this study has been undertaken in Indian PSU’. Data has been collected from 164 managers who were working at the different levels of management, Five critical success factors namely Corporate Planning; Regular Upkeep of the Machinery; Fire & Safety Audits; Quality Control; Quality Assurance have been found as Critical Success factors for the selected organizations. in particular and the other organizations in general. Based on the findings of the study it is recommended that the organizations must take care of these critical success factors so as to develop SIS which are successful information system and thus enable the organization to get a sustainable competitive advantage.

<p>This study aims empirically to analyze the critical factors that impact the success of ERP system implementation in the public sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain and to clarify the benefits gained from the implementation. The study used a detailed questionnaire as a measuring instrument across the sample group to measure two main variables, the first being critical success factors (CSFs), and the second whether ERP implementation was successful or not. The CSFs are top management commitment and support, ERP system matching organization, business process re-engineering, vendor support, and training users.</p>Those factors found to have a significant impact on ERP system implementation and the results illuminate the high level of success in implementing ERP systems. While simultaneously demonstrating that an organization with a functioning ERP system does not achieve the desired benefits by default, but rather the organization requires certain Critical Success Factors (CSFs) to be present and in effect for those benefits to be achieved.

Business Process Management involves theoretical and operationalelements from different areas, being a multidisciplinary field. In previousstudies, we identified critical success factors of BPM initiatives in BrazilianPublic Organizations. In this work, we intend to investigate how to managethese factors. To achieve this goal, we performed a focus group with fiveprofessionals with experience in BPM initiatives within the public sector. The Impact

Organizations are increasingly dependent on information systems, and they invest dearly on systems to integrate disparate business functions, automate business processes, and support operations in order to sustain business and survive in a competition-intensive business environment. However, such systems have in many occasions failed fully or partially. The lack of “fit-to purpose” seems to be the common factor among most of the failed cases. This suggests that such systems are not selected, implemented, configured, or supported based on a proper analysis and understanding of the organization structure and hierarchy, business functions, business processes, and business environment. Evidently, the majority of organizations tend to emphasize system specifications that match their operational and tactical requirements, with little attention given to strategic requirements, culminating in issues with strategic planning and decision making. This chapter uses a survey and simple model based on the characteristics and competitiveness indicators of strategic information systems (SIS) to examine the impact of such systems on the business performance in 16 medium to large Arab organizations. The study concludes with an emphasis of the importance of SIS to help organizations achieve excellence and competitive advantage and realize business objectives and goals.
