ABSTRACT A double lip is a rare anomaly characterized by a horizontal fold of redundant mucosal tissue that is situated proximal to the vermilion border. It may be either congenital or acquired and has no gender or race predilection. It occurs most often in the upper lip, although both upper and lower lips are occasionally involved. Surgical intervention (simple excision) produces good functional and cosmetic results. In this report, a case of a non – syndromic congenital maxillary double upper lip and a new way to treat this anomaly is described. Double lip is of special interest in dental profession as a dental surgeon is normally the first one to diagnose this rare and uncommon condition.

Double lip or macrocheilitis is a rare facial anomaly, mostly congenital in origin. It commonly involves the upper lip than the lower lip. It may occur in isolation or as part of the Ascher’s syndrome. It results due to deposition of excessive areolar tissue and non-inflammatory hyperplasia of labial mucosa gland of pars villosa. It may be acquired as a result of injury to the lips or lip-biting habit. The double lip becomes conspicuous when the lips are retracted during smiling resulting in the characteristic ‘cupid’s bow’ appearance. This disfigurement can pose aesthetic and functional problems and may result in psychological distress. A surgical intervention is must for restoration of functions and to address the aesthetic concerns. The present article reports a case of non-syndromic double upper lip with triple labial frena and its surgical management with laser on one side and with scalpel on the other side.

Coccidioidomycosis, also known as San Joaquin Valley Fever or Valley Fever, is mostly a pulmonary infection caused by inhalation of spores in an endemic region. Dissemination to bone, joints, meninges, and skin occurs less than one percent of the time. Skeletal involvement accounts for approximately half of the disseminated coccidioidomycosis with the vertebrae as the most common skeletal region. We present a very rare case of disseminated coccidioidomycosis with osteomyelitis and compression fracture of the lumbar vertebral body. This case depicts some of the potential issues that can arise in managing coccidioidomycosis, especially when noncompliance to initial azoles occurs, that can lead to dissemination and complicated bone infections necessitating surgical intervention along with continuous medical therapy.

The incision is the beginning of every surgical intervention, where separation of the tissues occurs. The uses of thermal mechanisms in skin incisions have been controversial due to higher repair time, necrosis of surrounding tissue, postoperative infection, and poor cosmetic results. The purpose of this study was to determine the evolution of the various types cutting systems and compare the tissue’s response on the use of conventional instrumentation versus diathermy

Cerebral metastases from papillary carcinoma of the thyroid are a very uncommon condition. These metastases almost always involve concomitant lung or bone metastases which may be the first metastatic sites. In a 59-year-old woman found metastases of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) in the frontal sinus, scapula, multiple bones of the skeleton and lungs. Evaluation confirmed that it is multiple metastases from PTC. This is a very rare presentation with such a large size of metastasis. We present this rare clinical case of massive distal lesions in PTC.

Rothia mucilaginosa is a Gram-positive aerobic coccus usually found in the oral and respiratory tract. Septic arthritis is an uncommon condition, but is an orthopaedic emergency. A rare case of knee septic arthritis due to R. mucilaginosa is presented. Patient management and outcomes are discussed, and learning points from this case are outlined to help manage any further cases that may arise.

Mesh Hernioplasty is the gold standard for Inguinal hernia. However, it is not free of complications. Mesh migration causing intestinal obstruction, albeit rare, is a serious and complications. Timely surgical intervention is very important in the management of this condition. We report a rare case of an elderly male patient with mechanical bowel obstruction due to mesh migration 9 years after a right inguinal hernia meshplasty.

Abstract Glomus tumor is a benign neoplasm composed of a perivascular proliferation of glomic cells that resembles the normal glomus body. Usually, it appears as a solitary, symptomatic small blue-red nodule, located in the deep dermis or subcutis of upper or lower extremities of young to middle-aged adults. Cases affecting the oral cavity are very rare, with only 23 well-documented cases reported in the English-language literature. Herein, we present a rare case of glomus tumor of the upper lip, and review the literature of cases involving the mouth.
