AS AN UNDERGRADUATE IN THE1970s, my introduction to the 1890s was perfunctory. Squeezed into a couple of weeks in the middle of a year-long course on “Victorian and Modern Literature,” the literature of the decade was reduced to aestheticism and decadence and presented as something of a preliminary to the real business of modernism. Such a focus reflected the scholarship of the time, in which thefin de sièclewas constructed as a moment of transition, one in which the political and socio-ethical dimensions so central to high Victorian literature were evacuated, as arguments for the autonomy of art came to dominate the literary cultural landscape. The organising principle was one of bifurcation: the separating out ofavant gardefrom bourgeois culture, the high from the low and, of particular relevance to this essay, literature from politics.

split ends (spen) encodes nuclear 600 kDa proteins that contain RNA recognition motifs and a conserved C-terminal sequence. These features define a new protein family, Spen, which includes the vertebrate MINT transcriptional regulator. Zygotic spen mutants affect the growth and guidance of a subset of axons in the Drosophila embryo. Removing maternal and zygotic protein elicits cell-fate and more general axon-guidance defects that are not seen in zygotic mutants. The wrong number of chordotonal neurons and midline cells are generated, and we identify defects in precursor formation and EGF receptor-dependent inductive processes required for cell-fate specification. The number of neuronal precursors is variable in embryos that lack Spen. The levels of Suppressor of Hairless, a key transcriptional effector of Notch required for precursor formation, are reduced, as are the nuclear levels of Yan, a transcriptional repressor that regulates cell fate and proliferation downstream of the EGF receptor. We propose that Spen proteins regulate the expression of key effectors of signaling pathways required to specify neuronal cell fate and morphology.

In this study, Microcore’s oral supplements of TrichovitalsTM contains Collagen type (I,III,V,X), elastin, ellagic acid, Sabbery b glucogallin, Biotin, Curcumin C3 reduct ODN and Murraya koenigii. ESM ingestion is associated with significant impact on hair thickness, reduction in hair breakage and improvement in hair growth. This study leads to evaluate the impacts of a nutritional intervention as compared to control group (without oral supplements intake) on the appearances of hair, skin, and nails in healthy middle-aged adults. Two pilot studies were run to assess TrichovitalsTM on skin parameter. 1. Self-assessment questionnaire intended to perform an assessment on skin, hair, and nail health after 12 weeks of treatment for a group of 25 female volunteers 2. Evaluated the efficacy of TrichovitalsTM effect of 5-week treatment on hydration of skin by corneometry, on elasticity with the cutometer, and on pigmentation with themexameteron for a group of 7 female volunteers, Microscopic studies of hair strength and nail growth. In study 1-Participants were predominantly satisfied with the effects obtained on general face (100% volunteers satisfied) and (94% volunteers satisfied) body skin condition and skin properties (100% volunteers satisfied) with facial skin softness, 95% ith facial skin hydration, 63% of facial skin brightness and 89% with body skin hydration and significant effects on hair damages (100% volunteers satisfied), hair falls (95% volunteers satisfied) and hair growth (96% volunteers satisfied) and nail appearance (80% volunteers satisfied) and improvement in brittle nails. In this open-label 5 weeks study, Oral Microcore’s TrichovitalsTM ingestion was associated with a significant improvement in skin appearance such as increase skin hydration and skin elasticity, reduces skin pigmentation after 5 weeks treatment and facial skin tone, with significant impact on hair thickness, reduces split ends, hair loss, hair breakage and improvement in hair growth after 5 weeks treatment, increase of 80% nail growth rate and a decrease of 42% brittle nails after 6 weeks. Microcore’s TrichovitalsTM achieved significant change improvement in skin, hair and nail appearance (thickness/density) than control group (without oral supplements intake) by week 12 of the study. From the result analysis, Microcore’s TrichovitalsTM is deemed to be one of the most effective anti-aging products in cosmetic sector and overall physical appearance. Oral supplementation of 500mg/day of Microcore’s TrichovitalsTM for 12 weeks is associated with significant improvement in the appearance of facial skin, hair and nail. Increases in skin hydration and skin elasticity with reduced pigmentation on skin were observed after 5 weeks treatment, which is a very important marker for skin aging. Also significant impact on hair thickness reduces split ends, hair loss, hair breakage and improvement in hair growth and healthy development of nails after 5 weeks treatment.

A criterion for the prevention of split ends (alligatoring) is expressed mathematically. This criteria, t0/R0>1.81×(t0/tf−1) is derived through the extension of an earlier upper bound solution for strip rolling of a perfectly plastic mises material. The treatment is based on the division of the deformation region to a series of triangles, undergoing rigid body rotational motions.

Abstract The receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signaling pathway is used reiteratively during the development of all multicellular organisms. While the core RTK/Ras/MAPK signaling cassette has been studied extensively, little is known about the nature of the downstream targets of the pathway or how these effectors regulate the specificity of cellular responses. Drosophila yan is one of a few downstream components identified to date, functioning as an antagonist of the RTK/Ras/MAPK pathway. Previously, we have shown that ectopic expression of a constitutively active protein (yanACT) inhibits the differentiation of multiple cell types. In an effort to identify new genes functioning downstream in the Ras/MAPK/yan pathway, we have performed a genetic screen to isolate dominant modifiers of the rough eye phenotype associated with eye-specific expression of yanACT. Approximately 190,000 mutagenized flies were screened, and 260 enhancers and 90 suppressors were obtained. Among the previously known genes we recovered are four RTK pathway components, rolled (MAPK), son-of-sevenless, Star, and pointed, and two genes, eyes absent and string, that have not been implicated previously in RTK signaling events. We also isolated mutations in five previously uncharacterized genes, one of which, split ends, we have characterized molecularly and have shown to encode a member of the RRM family of RNA-binding proteins.
