Summary
This collection of essays uncovers apparent tensions between the biblical notions of justice, love, law and mercy. This task is undertaken with the suggestion that biblical theology will benefit from exploring its own relationship to these tensions. The volume displays thoughtful and rigorous scholarship. Shedding light across New and Old Testament research, it promises enough material for constructive discussion among other theological disciplines.

Summary
This international collection of papers helpfully addresses all parts of the Old Testament canon in an informed and often reflective manner as it explores the issue of violence. Différentes méthodes sont suivies; quelques exposés seulement se concentrent sur la réception. Il n’y a pas d’articles faibles, mais il en est dont le travail sur la question de la violence est particulièrement significatif.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the role of farm-to-table (FTT) activities in agritourism towards sustainable development based on three agritourism farms in Brunei. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on qualitative data using semi-structured interviews with 23 participants involved in the management of the farms. In-depth interviews are considered the most appropriate approach to gain the unexplored perspectives of the agriculture community at the three agritourism farms. Findings The study found that FTT activities imparted in agritourism contribute towards sustainable development economically, socially and environmentally. FTT leads to the establishment of small medium and micro enterprises, which, in turn, creates employment for the local people. It also plays a part in preserving the ethno-culinary heritage of indigenous food, promoting food localism and sustainable agriculture. These findings suggest that FTT activities play an important role in revitalizing the local community. The outcome of this empirical research may enable planners to better formulate regional policy based on a balanced approach taking into account the three dimensions of sustainability towards agritourism development. From a theoretical standpoint, this study adds value to the literature by identifying the contributions of FTT activities towards sustainable development emphasising on the consumption of local ethnic food and food localism. Originality/value The contributions of agritourism for local farms has not been extensively discussed especially in Brunei’s local agriculture industry. This study will provide evidence that FTT activities contribute towards a moderate form of food activism; one that re-forges the disrupted linkages between people, nature and cultural heritage.

Purpose In addition to their internal resources, companies in most industries rely upon external strategic resources to maintain and improve their performance. External strategic resources have a similar effect on competitiveness but are located in the company’s networks or even in unrelated industries. Some companies underuse these resources, while other companies focus too strongly on accessing external resources in their own industry, which results in hyper-competition. This paper aims to explain how different industries use external resources and describes the criteria for a balanced approach which leads to knowledge transfer, diversity and supports the development of new business. Design/methodology/approach Examples and evidence from four different industries are used to identify the different approaches for accessing external strategic resources. Findings Valuable external strategic resources are non-transferable, located in a complementary product organisation, knowledge-oriented, located in a different country, preferably not part of the organisation’s primary external focus (e.g. supply chain), able to introduce diversity and innovation and are compatible with network behaviours. Practical implications External strategic resources are frequently found within the organisation’s supply chain, however, use of these resources should be balanced by external resources from non-related industries to increase diversity and reduce the likelihood of hyper-competition. Originality/value This paper explains why external strategic resources are valuable, identifies the different approaches to accessing them, describes the benefits and drawbacks associated with each approach and provides the key criteria for identifying a valuable external strategic resource.

Summary
In this canonical and intertextual interpretation of Psalms 35-41 in light of Samuel, Beuken provides a close reading of these psalms, first in their relationship to one another and then to the presentation of David in Samuel. Although debate will continue over the issue of the significance of intertextual relationships, the volume provides a plausible and insightful reading of these psalms.
Summary This article gives a synopsis of the various perspectives which existed in Early Judaism on the attitude believers should have towards society. We look at writings from Persian, Hellenistic and Roman times and from different movements. While studying how these Jewish authors saw the required relationship to society, i.e. to people who do not belong to their own community, we understand the importance Scripture had for all these groups, but we meet divergent ways of interpreting (the rest of) the Old Testament, also influenced by circumstances. Of course, it is easy to study each writing (or even passage) as reflecting a different kind of theology, but a synthesising explanation of the differences, in spite of all uncertainties and inconsistencies, can give us insight into how participation in society and guarding the Jewish identity were combined. This insight is relevant for understanding lived religion today and therefore moves beyond the existing knowledge and relevancy of biblical and Jewish Studies.

Summary
This dissertation by an evangelical scholar introduces current thinking about Jonathan Edwards’ views of passions, affections and emotions, and then takes its own position. The views of Augustine, Aquinas, Reformed and post-Reformed theologians, and John Locke serve as background. The author argues that Edwards’ thinking is in line with traditional Christianity and different from modern concepts of emotions. The reviewer was not convinced by all conclusions.
