Popliteal artery thrombosis may present as a complication of an osteochondroma located in the vicinity of the knee joint. This is a case report of a 26-year-old man with symptoms of the right lower extremity ischaemia without a previous history of vascular disease or trauma. Plain radiography, magnetic resonance angiography and Doppler ultrasonography documented the presence of an osteochondrous structure of the proximal tibial metaphysis, which displaced and compressed the popliteal artery, causing its occlusion due to intraluminal thrombosis..The patient was operated and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of osteochondroma.

SummaryRecent studies indicate that Tc-99m-Sestamibi (MIBI, DuPont Pharma) is a useful tracer for detecting parathyroid adenomas. We present a patient with focal Tc-99m-MIBI uptake in parathyroid carcinoma which has only been described once before (1). Tc-99m-MIBI scintigraphy may be considered for diagnosing pathological parathyroid tissue. But presently the histopathological examination only allows the differentiation between adenoma and carcinoma.

F.NA.C has been used for ages as a safe and economical tool for fast preoperative diagnosis of parotid tumors. It has certain pitfall which sometimes leads to misdiagnosis and consequently it may have affect on treatment of the tumors. Keeping in view of the diverse classification of parotid tumors’ information from cytology should be combined with radiology as well as clinical diagnosis. Aim: To discuss some cases where there was discrepancy between cytological diagnosis and histopathological result and also suggest measures to improve the efficacy of F.N.A.C. Material and methods: The study includes 50 cases of parotid tumours who presented to the  department of ENT at Government medical college Haldwani which is a tertiary referral centre during 2009 to 2016. Only adult patients were included and inflammatory swelling were excluded from the study. All patients evaluated  Contrast enhanced computerized tomography(CECT) and  Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) followed by Fine needle aspiration cytology .Preoperative diagnosis was made upon the findings of the above investigations and different types of  parotid surgeries  were done. . Final diagnosis was made on  histopathological  examination. Result :The most common tumour  came out to be pleomorphic adenoma (23 cases-46%) followed by mucoepidermoid carcinoma(12cases-24%). In ten  cases there was no clear cut  association between cytological diagnosis and final histopathological diagnosis. Conclusion: FNAC is highly sensitive and specific technique for diagnosis of many salivary gland swellings. FNAC can be used preoperatively to avoid unnecessary surgery and biopsy. Details of clinical information and radiologic features may help the pathologist to arrive at the appropriate diagnosis and reduce false interpretation. Pitfalls may also occur with improper technique of FNAC which can be overcome by proper caution.

Background: Fungal infection of the nose and paranasal sinuses is an uncommon condition which is now being increasingly recognized. The clinical presentation is not specific with various symptoms such as nasal obstruction, purulent nasal discharge, facial pain, and chronic cough. Only unilaterality may alert the clinician. Purpose: To find the morphological characteristics of the fungus in patients with paranasal sinus fungus ball. Methods: A retrospective study of 13 paranasal sinus fungus balls cases which underwent endoscopic sinus surgery at Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery St. Vincentius A Paulo Hospital Surabaya from March, 2012 until December, 2013. Age, sex, histopathology and fungal cultur were analysed. Histopathologic sections of all the patients were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), and Gomori methenamine silver (GMS). The specimens were then cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar plates and incubated at 30°C for 1 month. At the end of the incubation period, the samples were evaluated microscopically to detect fungi and identify their species. Results: The age reported of the 13 patients, was ranging from 36 to 63 years old. There was a significant female predominance, 10 female patients (76.92%) and 3 male patients (23.08%). Histopathological examination showed that most causative agents were Aspergillus species 92.31% (12/13). Culture test was positive for 69.23% (9/13). Aspergillus niger (61.54%, 8/13) is the most frequent fungus reported to cause fungus balls. Conclusion: Pattern of histopathologic on HE and GMS is very helpful and sensitive to identify fungi. The most common isolated mould in our study was Aspergillus niger. Background: A breast lump is the most common symptom associated with both benign and malignant breast diseases. Therefore, a distinction of benign from malignant lump is of importance for proper management. Though a definitive diagnosis is possible with imaging for all the lesions, histopathological study is proven essential for confirming the diagnosis. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of USG and histopathological findings of different breast lump in diagnosis and their comparison. Methods: A prospective study was conducted over a period of one year from January 2017 to December 2017. A total of 116 patients were included in this study. All breast lumps underwent surgery and the ultrasound findings of these lumps were compared with the histopathological findings. Data were collected from these patients by a preformed questionnaire and finally the data were analyzed. Results: Out of 116 patients only 21 cases were reported as malignant in ultrasound report but histopathology revealed 31 malignant patients. On histopathological examination 10 benign cases turned out to be malignant. Conclusion: The present study was undertaken to evaluate in diagnosing breast mass lesions individually by ultrasound and compared with histopathology for definitive management of a patient. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship of C. fasciolaris with common rats. Cysticercus fasciolaris is the larval stage of Taenia taeniaeformis . Development of metacestodes ( Cysticercus fasciolaris) occur in the liver of rodents. An urban and a sylvatic cycle occurs. A total of 40 liver specimens of rats were examined. Histopathological examination revealed the presence of multiple hepatic cysts, and the C. fasciolaris larva was surrounded by granulation tissue. Large and separated ûbroblasts in different orientations with some neoplastic changes were seen in advanced hepatic cysticercosis. The bladder involved the larva and large chamber containing the small chamber and opalescent fluid. The scolex of the mature larva is distinctly large, bearing four lateral distinct suckers, a rostellum armed with double, and alternating rows of hooks.

In this study, spontaneous swim bladder mycosis was documented in a farmed fingerling rainbow trout from a raceway culture system. At necropsy, the gross lesions included a thickened swim bladder wall, and the posterior portion of the swim bladder was enlarged due to massive hyperplasia of muscle. A microscopic wet mount examination of the swim bladder contents revealed abundant septate hyphae, and histopathological examination showed periodic acid-Schiff-positive mycelia in the lumen and wall of the swim bladder. Histopathological examination of the thickened posterior swim bladder revealed muscle hyperplasia with expansion by inflammatory cells. The causative agent was identified as Phoma herbarum through morphological analysis and DNA sequencing. The disease was reproduced in rainbow trout fingerlings using intraperitoneal injection of a spore suspension. Necropsy in dead and moribund fish revealed extensive congestion and haemorrhages in the serosa of visceral organs and in liver and abdominal serosanguinous fluid. Histopathological examination showed severe hepatic congestion, sinusoidal dilatation, Kupffer cell reactivity, leukostasis and degenerative changes. Fungi were disseminated to the liver, pyloric caeca, kidney, spleen and heart. Although infections caused by Phoma spp. have been repeatedly reported in fish, species identification has been hampered by extensive taxonomic changes. The results of this study confirmed the pathogenicity of P. herbarum in salmonids by using a reliably identified strain during experimental fish infection and provides new knowledge regarding the course of infection.

Background: Adenocarcinoma with enteroblastic differentiation is a subtype of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) producing adenocarcinoma. This type of tumor is associated with a poor prognosis and is prone to metastasize. Esophageal adenocarcinoma with enteroblastic differentiation is extremely rare.Case presentation: The patient was a 65-year-old woman who was referred to our hospital with dysphagia. Endoscopic examination revealed an elevated lesion 20mm in diameter at 17cm from the upper incisors. Endoscopic submucosa dissection (ESD) was performed and histopathological examination revealed tubular adenocarcinoma composed of cuboidal cells with clear cell cytoplasm. Immunohistochemical stain was diffusely positive for Sall-like protein 4 (SALL4) and weakly positive for AFP and glypican 3. From this result, we diagnosed esophageal adenocarcinoma with enteroblastic differentiation. The patient is still alive without recurrence of cancer 40 months after ESD.Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first report to undergo ESD for esophageal adenocarcinoma with enteroblastic differentiation arising from ectopic gastric mucosa in the esophagus.Abbreviations: AFP: alfa-fetoprotein; CA19-9: carbohydrate antigen 19-9; CEA: carcinoembryonic antigen; ESD: endoscopic submucosal dissection; EUS: endoscopic ultrasound; FDG-PET: [18F] fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography; ME: magnifying endoscopy; NBI: narrow band imaging; SALL 4: Sall-like protein 4; SCC: squamous cell carcinoma antigen.

We hereby present the case of a 58-year-old male who underwent a total gastrectomy for gastric neoplasm. During the surgery, a tumor mass in the jejunum was identified, considered as metastasis, and resected. The histopathological examination of the jejunal lesion showed ectopic pancreas. In this area, two pathological distinct lesions were identified, one histologically compatible with pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) type 2 lesion and the other with morphologic criteria for endocrine microadenoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case that evidences the presence of a concomitant premalignant exocrine lesion and benign endocrine lesion in a heterotopic pancreas (HP).Abbreviations: HP: heterotopic pancreas; IPMN: Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms; PanIN: Pancreatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia; PEN: pancreatic endocrine neoplasm.
