Abstract. New generation sensors (RGB, thermal, NIR and multispectral cameras) on unmanned aerial vehicles are continuously being developed for precision farming applications. In particular, this paper presents a study and an experimentation linked to the determination of viticulture growth indices by integrating the innovative techniques of digital photogrammetry from UAV platform, GPS satellite technique and traditional measures. Furthermore we demonstrate that the products from the processed raw-data represent good quality support to determine health state of the crop, and provide in addition a quantitative evaluation of the observed data. Through the use of such a technology it is possible to improve productivity between 15% and 17%, reducing the market price of the product and the costs of control and management. In particular, during the monitoring campaign lasting three years from 2015 to 2017, it was possible to observe that vine cultivation increased the growth index by about 12% following the corrections resulting from the critical interpretation of the results.

About 10% of the world’s workforce is directly dependent on agriculture for income and about 99% of food consumed by humans comes from farming. Agriculture is highly climate dependent and with global warming and rapidly changing weather it has become necessary to closely monitor the environment of growing crops for maximizing output as well as increasing food security while minimizing resource usage. In this study, we developed a low cost system which will monitor the temperature, humidity, light intensity and soil moisture of crops and send it to an online server for storage and analysis, based on this data the system can control actuators to control the growth parameters. The three tier system architecture consists of sensors and actuators on the lower level followed by an 8-bit AVR microcontroller which is used for data acquisition and processing topped by an ESP8266 Wi-Fi module which communicates with the internet server. The system uses relay to control actuators such as pumps to irrigate the fields; online weather data is used to optimize the irrigation cycles. The prototyped system was subject to several tests, the experimental results express the systems reliability and accuracy which accentuate its feasibility in real-world applications.

For a determination of the system’s efficiency and decrease the cost, a low cost system for measuring solar irradiance is designed. By analyzing the influence of solar irradiance and temperature to solar cell, we have found that in case of different temperatures the variation of short-circuit current (Isc) in function of solar irradiation incident (E) is always linear. Then the read-out circuitry is designed to measure and convert the signal which is detected by the photoelectric cell and thermocouples. At last, the software is developed to compensate the temperature and make sure the device work normally. The results of detecting the system show that it’s effective and reliable.

In Venezuela, the sardine (Sardinella aurita) is considered a strategic resource because it represents a supply of low-cost protein and supports the most important socio-economic artisanal fisheries of the country. Therefore, the objectives of this research were to estimate the sardine growth parameters and reproductive aspects, fundamental in its fisheries management and evaluation. 3960 individuals were collected of the commercial catches with the “chinchorro sardinero” from the southwest of Margarita’s, from January to December 2003. The asymptotic length (L∞=26 cm) and the coefficient of growth (K=1.1 year-1) were estimated with the routine ELEFAN I from the package “FiSAT”, indicating a growth index Ø’ of 2.87. The overall sexual proportion of female to male was 1.2:1.0. The most intensive reproductive seasons were observed between January-March and July-December, however a continuous spawning was observed along the year. Our results provide enough evidence to conclude that the resource still has fast growth and sustained reproduction. The sexual maturity length was estimated in 19.8 cm and we recommended that length-average in the catches in order to properly manage the resource.

Significant advances have been accomplished in the field of Through Glass Via (TGV) technology; enabling a new generation of electronic designs that achieve higher performance, while leveraging low cost system solutions. Through-hole creation methods in glass have been optimized for mass production with consistent via diameter, shape and wall chemistry/morphology. This has enabled the development of unique copper via metallization materials that exhibit very high conductivity, thermal expansion matching (with borosilicate glass) and hermeticity in the 10E-10 Atm.cc/sec range (Ultra-High Vacuum Hermeticity). Further developments in Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) for glass wafers with copper vias, surface sensitization and metal deposition techniques, have enabled thin film metallization on both sides of the glass wafer for fine line redistribution layers (RDL). The thin film RDL is compatible with the TGV with excellent continuity in conductivity. The RDL metallization is plated to allow flip chip, land grid array, wire-bond, solder, or other interconnection methods. The paper will discuss the technical, material and process challenges in each of the areas mentioned above which enable a hermetically sealed glass package. Detailed data and experimental results will be discussed.

This paper will discuss post via metallization processes for multilayer RDL (Redistribution Layer) metallization on both sides of the glass wafer. Unique Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) development approaches for glass wafers with copper thick film vias will be explained. Thin film deposited adhesion layer on glass, followed by a deposited metallization layer will be described. Types of deposited adhesion layer on glass for optimized adhesion and electrical contact with the vias will be examined. Furthermore, copper plating approaches for higher conductivity and fine line circuit patterning are examined. Polymeric dielectric material systems for multilayer RDL on both sides of the glass will also be reviewed.

Canthidermis sufflamen has become a low cost food resource in high demand in El Tirano fishing community, and captures have been increasing in recent years. Since there is a lack of information on this resource population dynamics in Venezuela, the goal of this research was to provide some biological-fishery parameters, and has as general objective to determine growth and mortality of the triggerfish of Los Frailes and Los Testigos Archipelagos, Federal Territories of Venezuela. For this, a total of 3 595 specimens were collected from El Tirano commercial fishing, every week, from May 2012 to April 2013. We determined total length (cm), total weight (g), and sex for each specimen. No sexual dimorphism was shown with respect to length (ts = -0.96; p > 0.05), so one length-weight ratio was established for both sexes: W = 0.164*L2.26;and they both exhibited minor allometric growth. Growth was estimated by analysis of the frequency distribution of lengths, using FiSAT software. Growth parameters, estimated by the von Bertalanffy model, were considered slow, being L∞ = 61.69 cm, W∞ = 1 868.40 g, k = 0.36 / year, and to = -0.65 years. The maximum age was A0.95 = 8 years. The growth index (Ø′), showed a value of 3.14. The exploitation rate E = 0.72 / year, using total mortality values Z = 2.67 / year, natural M = 0.73 / year and from fishing F = 1.93 / year, indicates that C. sufflamen is being over-exploited by the artisanal fishers of El Tirano. We recommend following some harvest guidelines that will reduce mortality rate due to fishing.

Background: Analysis of drug concentrations in biological fluids is required in clinical sciences for various purposes. Among other biological samples, exhaled breath condensate (EBC) is a potential sample for follow up of drug concentrations. Methods: A dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) procedure followed by a validated liquid chromatography method was employed for the determination of budesonide (BDS) in EBC samples collected using a homemade setup. EBC is a non-invasive biological sample with possible applications for monitoring drug concentrations. The proposed analytical method is validated according to the FDA guidelines using EBC-spiked samples. Its applicability is tested on EBC samples collected from healthy volunteers receiving a single puff of BDS. Results: The best DLLME conditions involved the use of methanol (1 mL) as a disperser solvent, chloroform (200 μL) as an extraction solvent, and centrifugation rate of 3500 rpm for 5 minutes. The method was validated over a concentration range of 21-210 μg·L-1 in EBC. Inter- and intra-day precisions were less than 10% where the acceptable levels are less than 20%. The validated method was successfully applied for the determination of BDS in EBC samples. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the developed method can be used for the extraction and quantification of BDS in EBC samples using a low cost method.
