Current bridge inspection practices rely on paper-based data acquisition, digitization, and multiple conversions in between incompatible formats to facilitate data exchange. This practice is time-consuming, error-prone, cumbersome, and leads to information loss. One aim for future inspection procedures is to have a fully digitized workflow that achieves loss-free data exchange, which lowers costs and offers higher efficiency. On the one hand, existing studies proposed methods to automatize data acquisition and visualization for inspections. These studies lack an open standard to make the gathered data available for other processes. On the other hand, several studies discuss data structures for exchanging damage information through out different stakeholders. However, those studies do not cover the process of automatic data acquisition and transfer. This study focused on a framework that incorporates automatic damage data acquisition, transfer, and a damage information model for data exchange. This enables inspectors to use damage data for subsequent analyses and simulations. The proposed framework shows the potentials for a comprehensive damage information model and related (semi-)automatic data acquisition and processing.

The implementation of calculation architectures, data acquisition and processing systems, VLSI type integrated circuits within driving systems shows and increased trend in the industry, due to the advantages of such circuits compared to microcontrollers and ASIC’s. In the first part of the paper is presented functional aspects of reconfigurable integrated circuits for monitoring, controlling and managing industrial processes. Compact RIO is a device developed by National Instruments and which is intended for monitoring and controlling industrial processes. This is also an “embedded” type system, which comprises a FPGA device, a processor with real-time operating system (RTOS) and various input-output modules which have to be attached by the user. Applications using such devices, usually also use an HMI (human machine interface) for creating a graphical interface with the user. The second part of the paper is allocated for establishing the requirements for using of such system in the explosive atmospheres. The practical achievement consists in the construction of a wirelessly PC-controlled robot and the analysis of measurements achieved, respectively data acquired from sensors and video recordings. Among conclusions is highlighted the opportunities brought by the use of the intrinsic safety and flame proof types of protection.

Recently, terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) has been increasingly used to monitor ofdisplacement of high-rise buildings. The main advantages of this technique are time-saving, higherpoint density, and higher accuracy in comparison with GPS and conventional methods. While TLS isordinary worldwide, there has been no study of the capability of TLS in monitoring the displacement ofhigh-rise buildings yet in Vietnam. The paper's goal is to build a procedure for displacement monitoringof high-rise buildings and assess the accuracy of TLS in this application. In the experiments, a scannedboard with a 60 cm x 60 cm mounted on a moveable monument system is scanned by Faro Focus3DX130. A monitoring procedure using TLS is proposed, including three main stages: site investigation,data acquisition and processing, and displacement determination by the Cloud-to-Cloud method (C2C).As a result, the displacement of the scanned object between epochs is computed. In order to evaluate theaccuracy, the estimated displacement using TLS is compared with the real displacement. The accuracydepends on scanning geometry, surface property, and point density conditions. Our results show that theaccuracy of the estimated displacement is within ± 2 mm for buildings lower than 50 m of height. Thus,TLS completely meets the accuracy requirements of monitoring displacement in the Vietnam Standardsof Engineering Surveying. With such outstanding performance, our workflow of using TLS could beapplied to monitor the displacement of high-rise buildings in the reality of geodetic production inVietnam.

Background Serious games are a support in the rehabilitation process for treating people with physical disabilities. However, many of these serious games are not adapted to the patient’s needs because they are not developed with a software engineering framework with a set of activities, actions, and tasks that must be executed when creating a software product. Better serious games for rehabilitation will be developed if the patient and therapist requirements are identified, the development is planned, and system improvements and feedback are involved. The goal is that the serious game must offer a more attractive environment, while maintaining patient interest in the rehabilitation process. Objective This paper submits the results of a systematic review of serious games in physical rehabilitation identifying the benefits of using a software engineering framework. Methods A systematic research was conducted using PubMed, PEDro (Physiotherapy Evidence Database), IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, ACM Digital Library, Mary Ann Liebert, Taylor & Francis Online, Wiley Online Library, and Springer databases. The initial search resulted in 701 papers. After assessing the results according to the inclusion criteria, 83 papers were selected for this study. Results From the 83 papers reviewed, 8 used a software engineering framework for its development. Most of them focused their efforts on 1 or more aspects, such as data acquisition and processing, game levels, motivation, therapist supervision. Conclusions This systematic review proves that most of the serious games do not use a software engineering framework for their development. As a result, development systems overlook several aspects and do not have a standardized process, eventually omitting important implementation aspects, which impact the patient’s recovery time.

An electro-optic detector is one of the diagnostic setups used in particle accelerators. It employs an electro-optic crystal to encode the longitudinal beam charge profile in the spectrum of a light pulse. The charge distribution is then reconstructed using data captured by a fast spectrometer. The measurement repetition rate should match or exceed the machine bunching frequency, which is often in the range of several MHz. A high-speed optical line detector (HOLD) is a linear camera designed for easy integration with scientific experiments. The use of modern FPGA circuits helps in the efficient collection and processing of data. The solution is based on Xilinx 7-Series FPGA circuits and implements a custom latency-optimized architecture utilizing the AXI4 family of interfaces. HOLD is one of the fastest line cameras in the world. Thanks to its hardware architecture and a powerful KALYPSO sensor from KIT, it outperforms the fastest comparable commercial devices.

Airport pavements should ensure regular and safe movements during their service life; the management body has to monitor the functional and structural characteristics, and schedule maintenance work, balancing the often conflicting goals of safety, economic and technical issues. This paper presents a remote monitoring system to evaluate the structural performance of a runway composed of concrete thresholds and a flexible central runway. Thermometers, strain gauges, and pressure cells will be embedded at different depths to continuously monitor the pavement’s response to traffic and environmental loads. An innovative system allows data acquisition and processing with specific calculation models, in order to inform the infrastructure manager, in real time, about the actual conditions of the pavement. In this way, the authors aim to develop a system that provides useful information for the correct implementation of an airport pavement management system (APMS) based on real-life data. Indeed, it permits comprehensive monitoring functions to be performed, based on the embedded sensing network.

Aptamers are a new kind of nano-probes for bioassays and drug delivery, etc. In this paper, software has been developed as an automatic control center for the automated aptamer selecting system which realized the high integration of aptamer selection, data acquisition and processing. This software, applied in windows system, is developed by C# with the Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 integrated developing environment and the database used in this software is implemented using open source relational database MYSQL. According to the requirement analysis, this software realized various important necessary functions including feasible experiment design, auto-control of the hardware, real time process monitoring and efficient data management which perfectly satisfies the users’ demands. During the actual experiment operation, this software worked smoothly and assumed stable serial port communication between it and the hardware, meanwhile, the interaction between the software and MYSQL remained good stability. As a consequence, it is practical and reasonable to apply this software to the automated aptamer selecting system for research.
