"Condition monitoring of machinery in industries is becoming an emerging technique for efficient operations and productivity. A wide range of fault diagnosis approaches have been proposed to improve machinery operations in industries. These monitoring and fault diagnosis approaches are most effective for reliable machinery operations. However, due to the harsh environment of industries, these approaches have been suffered from different challenges. In order to extract the significant features for fault diagnosis and monitoring, different neural, fuzzy, and signal processing based systems were adopted. In this paper, we discuss wireless sensor based fault diagnosis and monitoring approaches and their types for industrial machinery. Furthermore, the paper presents industrial challenges to adopting these approaches and related efforts."

In the present time, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) are extensively used in many industrial applications due to its advantages over conventional synchronous motor. The PMSM is compact and efficient with high dynamic performance, thus having more advantages such as light weight, small size and bulky burden ability. When PMSMs are failed during the operation then large revenue losses occurs for industries. Hence, it is essential to diagnose these faults before occurring, for protection of any industrial plant. In the paper, firstly a comprehensive review of condition monitoring has been done for PMSM faults and their diagnostics techniques. From review, it is found that the stator inter-turn fault diagnosis has been the challenging task for many researchers. Hence, the work has been extended for fault analysis of stator inter-turn under transient conditions, which is effectively analyzed with the help of advanced signal processing technique.

The paper reviews current research work in the field of process condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. The review compares and contrasts the applicability and efficiency of different techniques, and concentrates on methods which monitor the main process variables. From the wide range of methods and process variables, temperature, flowrate and liquid level are used here in comparing the limitations and applications of each method. The scope of the paper ranges from basic, well established techniques to the latest reported monitoring strategies for each of the process variables. Furthermore, the different methods of fault diagnosis deemed to be relevant in process plant are reviewed. The detection of the internal leakage in the control valves and motor faults are discussed in detail, as examples of the monitoring of vital process plant components. The paper then outlines areas of future work, such as the development of a user friendly interface. This interface is based on state transition diagrams (STDs) as well as on the use of a knowledge based system (KBS) to model and diagnose faults in vital process plant components such as control valves.

Due to gearbox is one of the high failure rate component in the wind turbine, the research of it has been paid wide attention in recent years. This paper reviewed the two aspects about the wind turbine gearbox. First, some signal process methods including how to determine the threshold were summarized. Then, the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of gearbox were reviewed using the measured signals. These researches are benefited for reducing economic losses which is caused by the gearbox failure. Based on the above reviews, this paper gives some developmental direction.

In many cases, it is impractical to measure the vibrations directly at or close to their source. It is a common practice to measure the vibration at a location far from the source for condition monitoring purposes. The vibration measured in this way inevitably has high distortions from the vibrations due to the effect of the attenuation of signal paths and the interference from other sources. The suppression of the distortions is a key issue for the remote measurements based condition monitoring. In this paper, the influences of transducer locations are investigated on a typical gearbox transmission system for the detection of the faults induced to the gearbox. Several signal processing techniques’ analysis results show that the attenuation and interference cause high influences on the gear transmission signals. However, time synchronous average (TSA) is very effective to detect the local faults induced to the gear system.
