Negative thermal expansion is an interesting and appealing phenomenon for various scientific and engineering applications, while rarely occurring in natural materials. Here, using a universal antichiral metamaterial model with bimetal beams or strips, a generic theory has been developed to predict magnitude of the negative thermal expansion effect from model parameters. Thermal expansivity of the metamaterial is written as an explicit function of temperature and only three design parameters: relative node size, chirality angle, and a bimetal constant. Experimental measurements follow theoretical predictions well, where thermal expansivity in the range of negative 0.0006–0.0041 °C−1 has been seen.

Certain ferroelectric materials possess dual electrostrictive and piezoelectric characteristics, depending on their specific Curie temperatures. These materials exhibit piezoelectric characteristics in the ferroelectric phase when the temperature is below the Curie point. However, they become electrostrictive in the paraelectric phase (non-polar phase) as the temperature exceeds the Curie point. The (direct) electrostrictive effect is a quadratic dependence of stress or strain on applied electric field. The nonlinear electromechanical effect of electrostrictive materials provides stronger actuation performance as compared with that of piezoelectric materials. Due to the complexity of the generic ferroelectric actuators, micro-electromechanics and control characteristics of generic electrostrictive/piezoelectric dynamics system deserve an in-depth investigation. In this study, electro-mechanical dynamic system equations and generic boundary conditions of hybrid electrostrictive/piezoelectric double-curvature shell continua are derived using the energy-based Hamilton’s principle, elasticity theory, electrostrictive/piezoelectric constitutive relations, and Gibb’s free energy function. Moreover, the second converse electrostrictive effect and the direct piezoelectric effect are all considered in the generic governing equations. Simplifications of the generic theory to other common geometries or specific materials are demonstrated and their electromechanical characteristics are also evaluated.

Enabled by their size, small machine tools manufacturing small workpieces allow for a leap of improvements and therefore overcome current limitations in micro manufacturing. Nevertheless, to achieve those benefits the classically engineering mindset and machine tool design have to be overcome. Those ideas, the reasoning behind them and the corresponding conditions are laid down in the so called theory of small machine tools. The generic theory includes a framework approach to help in the process of machine development resulting in a new kind of miniaturized and function integrated machine tools. This conceptual contribution describes the idea, aspects, objectives and methodology pursued by the theory of small machine tools.

Abstract “With doubts about the usefulness of translation theory never far from many people's minds, this paper seeks to consider exactly what it is that we are trying to achieve by including a theoretical component in translator training programmes. Within this context the paper specifically examines the possibilities of generic theory courses — in which students who are working with different language pairs and who probably have only a single language in common are all taught together — as opposed to a more language-specific approach. In order to attain the relevance that they purportedly so often lack, such courses need to set a fairly broad agenda for themselves, seeking if possible to address the type of questions likely to be uppermost in students' minds, expose students to a range of differing opinions on controversial issues, provide an alternative to standard dichotomies, encourage participants to arrive at their own strategies for solving translation problems, prepare students for work within the translation industry and demonstrate that translation is not an activity which is completely ad hoc and subjective. The paper furthermore suggests that every effort should be made to harmonise the formal theory component with everything else that goes on in the programme, so that theory is seen to be relevant to practice. Within this broader perspective one of the main purposes of this training component should therefore be to enable students to develop their own personal, internalised theory which will inform their developing performance as professional translators.”

Fertility is often seen on the figures and biological sides. Seeing fertility goes beyond both of these will be <br />useful to explore the wishes of each actor , how they relate to each other and to the community , and how the values and aspects of sociological and psychological that is attached in such activities. The study explored how the relationship between gender relations and fertility work ; especially because until now there is no generic theory agreed to this issue . This study used qualitative methods to explore and gain an understanding of how women give birth as related parties with the other actors . The framework of this study were made by utilizing research - research that has been done before , namely the concept of female autonomy ( Mason and Smith , 2003) and the concept of the determinant ( Bongaarts , 1978) . The concept is referred to aspects of women's autonomy is the power of women to make household economic decisions , the power of women to make decisions about family size , women freedom of movement , individual attitudes toward gender attitude of the community , and the movement of women in decision-making ( Mason and Smith , 2003 . Determinants required for connecting between socio - economic variables - culture with fertility because after all , there are facts that can not be denied that fertility is the result of biological activity . The results showed that although the values at the community level suggested to have the number of children that a lot , to a certain extent , the women in the study area can control the number of children they have. This control works through Desired fertility and the determinants , namely : the use of contraception and delay the age of marriage is influenced by women's autonomy and power as proposed by Mason and Smith ( 2003) . Women's autonomy and power in question is the power of women in economic decision-making , decision-making power of women in family size , their physical freedom of movement , the size of the gender attitudes at the community level , and their space in household decisionmaking . Abstract We translate the articles covering group theory already available in the Mizar Mathematical Library from multiplicative into additive notation. We adapt the works of Wojciech A. Trybulec [41, 42, 43] and Artur Korniłowicz [25]. In particular, these authors have defined the notions of group, abelian group, power of an element of a group, order of a group and order of an element, subgroup, coset of a subgroup, index of a subgroup, conjugation, normal subgroup, topological group, dense subset and basis of a topological group. Lagrange’s theorem and some other theorems concerning these notions [9, 24, 22] are presented. Note that “The term ℤ-module is simply another name for an additive abelian group” [27]. We take an approach different than that used by Futa et al. [21] to use in a future article the results obtained by Artur Korniłowicz [25]. Indeed, Hölzl et al. showed that it was possible to build “a generic theory of limits based on filters” in Isabelle/HOL [23, 10]. Our goal is to define the convergence of a sequence and the convergence of a series in an abelian topological group [11] using the notion of filters.
