Tax is the bottom line source of revenue for the world’s governments. Taxation is the only known realistic means of collecting resources to finance public expenditure. This study aims at unraveling efficient mechanisms to be employed in Kenya to enhance income tax compliance to boost tax revenue for the current and future governments. With the new governance structure of forty seven county governments in place following the promulgation of the new constitution 2010, this exercise is timely. The study will make use of both secondary and primary sources of data in eliciting the required information necessary for the research findings.  The sample size will be made up of twenty companies drawn from different sectors of the Kenyan economy operating within the Nairobi County.The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20is used in the data analysis and presentation of findings.  The overall finding is that a tax system should be simple, withstraightforward rules for lay citizens to understand and at the same time guarantee that the cost of tax collection and administration is not higher than the actual tax revenue raised.The research findings lead to a conclusion that multiple rates of income tax, varied dates of making tax returns and a bulky legal tax framework make income tax compliance unforeseeable in Kenya.

In order to reduce the volatility of the personal income tax in Utah, review and reform efforts recommended a simple flat tax that disallowed all deductions or exemptions. Among the reasons for the recommended flat tax was the argument that it would result in a more stable year-over-year tax revenue stream. This was especially important for education financing. The tax system that was finally adopted retained exemptions and deductions through a tax credit. Using a series of simulations based on twenty-one years of tax returns, we establish that by retaining exemptions and deductions, tax reform efforts failed to appreciably reduce the volatility of personal income tax revenues. These simulations also show that the initially proposed flat income tax with no exemptions or deductions would have decreased volatility at the cost of reducing the growth rate. This study contributes insights, caveats, methodology, and potential alternatives for future individual income tax reforms by focusing on the growth and volatility of three different tax systems.

This study aims to examine and analyze the factors affecting income tax revenues with tax compliance as an intervening variable. The study consists of three independent variables that tax penalties, the service tax authorities, and awareness of the taxpayer. While this research is tied in income tax revenues and intervening variable is tax compliance.This study used purpose sampling technique and survey method with questionnaires in collecting data. Respondent were sampled in this study is an individual taxpayer who performs is 120 respondent in Semarang. Research data analysis using multiple analysis with the path analysis.The results showed that the variable tax penalties and service tax authorities an effect on tax compliance, awareness taxpayer has no effect on tax compliance, tax penalties, awareness of taxpayers and taxpayer compliance effect on income tax revenue, the service tax authorities had no effect on tax revenue income. Tax compliance successfully mediate the relationship between the variables of service tax authorities against income tax revenue. Tax compliance  not successfully mediate the relationship between the tax penalties and awareness taxpayer against income tax revenue.

This study fills the gap in the tax authority’s Covid-19 financial aid verifications by examining, and nominating, Long-run ETR (Dyreng et al., 2008) as the better corporate tax avoidance measure in excluding tax evader firms from the broad stimulus programs. Analysing confidential tax returns of 4,752 largest firms (32,120 firm-years) in Indonesia over 2009 to 2017 periods, this study found 18.12 percent of total sample firms is able to retain its Long-run ETR below 10 percent, which indicates continual tax avoidance activities by these firms during observation periods. Moreover, applying univariate and multivariate Ordinary Least Squares and Panel Data estimations, this study reveals, relative to other tax avoidance measures, Lagged Cash ETR (Lisowsky, 2010; Lisowsky et al., 2013) present the most consistent reliability in predicting long-run income tax burdens. Thus, this study asserts, in the conditions of computing Long-run ETR is costly and impractical (i.e. because of data unavailability), tax authority and policymakers can directly analyse firms’ Lagged Cash ETR to gauge their long-run income tax burdens and tax compliance behaviours prior the economic downturn.

To improve use tax compliance, twenty-seven states have added a line to their income tax returns where taxpayers can report taxable sales. This article reports results of a behavioral study of a postcard “nudge” sent to income tax filers in one of those states, Nebraska, to encourage self-reporting of liability. The research question is whether the informational nudge was sufficient to alter self-reporting behavior. Data indicate that the nudge more than doubled the likelihood of use tax reporting and nearly doubled the amount of revenue collected, but the rate of use tax reporting remains extremely low. Probit models reveal that use tax reporting rises with income at a decreasing rate. Selection models are also estimated because of positive selection bias in the selection of the treatment group. Taken together, the results indicate that an informational nudge is not likely to be sufficient to substantially change use tax reporting behavior.

Tax systems are complex structures that can be difficult for individuals to navigate. Understanding the way taxes are calculated and liabilities are assessed matters a lot when personal saving for retirement and education, and much of the government's social policy apparatus, are closely integrated with the tax system. This study uses a survey to measure individuals' knowledge about basic elements of the personal income tax, their perception of their own tax knowledge, and their tax-filing behaviour. One would hope that tax-literate Canadians would have a high level of knowledge of the way taxes work, and a realistic appreciation of the limits of their knowledge, and thus that they could make informed decisions, for example, when filing their tax returns. The survey data show that Canadians have good knowledge of basic tax facts but struggle when asked more complex questions regarding the progressivity of the income tax. Results were generally consistent across provinces with the notable exception of respondents in Quebec, who had higher marks on the authors' tax quiz but lower self-assessed tax knowledge. The measurement instrument employed in the study will allow for a refinement of research exploring the drivers of tax compliance as well as political attitudes toward taxes and redistribution.

Tax revenue is a key source of income for most countries in the world. To maximize tax revenue, it is critical that taxpayers comply with relevant tax laws particularly in a self-assessment filing system. Alas, many countries are still grappling with tax evasion or even tax avoidance issue. A key challenge is tax compliance behavior remains a complex and perplexing topic. While a lack of tax knowledge is pertinently attributable to unintentional non-compliance, the causes of intentional non-compliance are far from clear. This study aims to investigate the factors associated with intentional tax non-compliance by ruling out the variation in tax knowledge explanation. In so doing, this study employs a sample of respondents deemed conversant with tax knowledge. More specifically, this study surveys 104 tax practitioners in Malaysia using a convenience sampling technique and utilizes the theories of planned behavior and free trait to explore how they behave when filing their personal tax returns. The findings suggest only subjective norms is significantly linked to their tax compliance behavior. This study extends the literature on the role of individual factors on tax compliance behaviour among tax practitioners acting in a different persona.

Abstract Using cross-country data on e-government systems, this paper analyzes whether e-filing of taxes and e-procurement implementation improves the capacity of governments to raise and spend fiscal resources through lowering tax compliance costs, improving tax collection and public procurement competitiveness, and reducing corruption. Adopting e-filing systems reduces tax compliance costs as measured by the time to prepare and pay taxes, the likelihood and frequency of firms being visited by a tax official, and the perception of tax administration as an obstacle to firms’ operation and growth. E-filing is also associated with a moderate increase in the income tax revenue to GDP ratio. The results for e-procurement are weaker, with the number of firms securing or attempting to secure a government contract increasing only in countries with higher levels of development and better institutions. There is no strong relationship between e-government and corruption.

To increase state tax revenue, the Directorate General of Taxes conducts administrative reforms in the field of taxation by implementing e-Filing, a means of reporting on Annual Individual Income Tax Returns online. The application of e-Filing is expected to facilitate Taxpayers to carry out tax obligations so as to increase state revenues. This study aims to analyze the application of e-Filing to Individual Taxpayers at Bitung Primary Tax Office. The sampling method in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach using primary and secondary data through observation of interviews with tax officers and individual taxpayers registered at the Bitung Primary Tax Office. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of e-Filing has not been effective enough, the number of Individual Taxpayers who used e-Filing in 2016 was 32,374 taxpayers, and there was a decline in 2017 of 29,477 taxpayers. The application of e-Filing will be maximum if the KPP Pratama Bitung increases socialization.Keywords : E-Filing, implementation of e-filing, personal taxpayer
