This study evaluates the effect of mergers and acquisitions on bank recapitalization inNigeriawith emphasis on the impact of the strategy on economy development. The study makes use of data from the foremost eight banks inNigeriathat account for over 60% of the banking transaction in the country.The research work was evaluated through regression analysis of secondary data covering ten years (2002-2011) from the sampled banks. The research entails a study of the pre-recapitalization and post-recapitalization periods hence the sample period was divided into two. This approach assists to capture the actual effect of the latest recapitalization policy of the government during the period.The result suggests that the effect of the latest recapitalization policy was positive on the operational capability of theNigeriabanking system. There are lot of economies of scale derived from the exercise. Harnessing of resources through mergers and acquisition gave the banks the much required funds to intermediate more effectively within the financial system.

Ghana has witnessed a wave of mergers and acquisitions (M & As) in the banking industry following the bank recapitalization initiative by the government in 2008. This raises an important question concerning the trade-off between the possible efficiency gains and efficiency losses as banks merge into one large unit. The objective of this study was to find out how Mergers & Acquisitions have impacted service quality of consolidated banks in Ghana. A descriptive and explanatory design was adopted as the study sought to describe customer perceived service quality and to also explain the relationship between M & As and service quality. An ANOVA and T-tests techniques were used to analyze primary and secondary data gathered. Findings from the study indicated that M & As had positive impact on overall service quality. The conclusion drawn by the researchers indicates that mergers and acquisitions offer superior growth and financing option for banks. This in turn promotes economic efficiency through improvements in costs and services delivery.

Business combination through mergers and acquisitions has become a global phenomenon to achieve economies of scale and higher productivity. This study evaluated the impact of mergers and acquisitions which started in 2005 on the performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria using a sample of ten (10) banks. This research made use of secondary data, obtained from the bank’s annual reports and statements of accounts covering a period of 1999-2018. Using four (4) variables; earning per share (EPS), net profit margin (NPM), assets utilization (AUT), and leverage (LEV), the study evaluated the performance of the banks before and after mergers and acquisitions using pair sample t-test. The results showed that there is significant difference in the performances of Deposit Money Banks in the pre and post-merger periods using the EPS and NPM yardstick but shows no significant impacts in the performances of Deposit Money Bank using AUT and LEV as yardstick. The study hereby recommends that the CBN should set and enforce better corporate governance standards for commercial banks and also enforce risk based supervision in banks.

E-Government is the use of information and communication Technologies (ICT) such as internet, smart phones, telecommunication, mobile company among others to interact between government and the citizens in running the affairs of the country such as decision making etc. The impact and potential of ICTs have not been fully exploited in the Nigerian context, leaving government in a weak position to formulate policy comprehensively and implement plans effectively. Despite the fact that E-government has been implemented for a while now in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria Abuja, but its effectiveness is not impressive. The citizens connection to the government is limited it can be improved more easily using electronic means of communication, A reduction in corruption cases as accountability and transparency can also be increased, Equal opportunity will be given to all to access information irrespective of the person’s physical location or disability and the elimination of the bureaucracy experienced in government offices. This research work is aimed at assessing the effectiveness of e-government in federal capital territory of Nigeria Abuja using Seoul Metropolitan Government as a yard stick for measuring the effectiveness. Questionnaire was used as a primary method of data collection, internet and library as secondary data. The data obtained from the questionnaire has been analyzed using frequency table and percentage. The findings of this work shows that 41.91% of the respondents agree e-government initiatives have decreased civil servants corruption in Abuja, 46.81% of the respondents agree that E-government services has increased citizens trust in Abuja, 58.11% of the respondents believe that E-government initiative have increased the accessibility to the government in Abuja however 37.11% agree that Lack of IT infrastructure is the major problem affecting E-government in Abuja.

Abstract This paper reviews rice procurement operations of Government of India from the standpoints of cost of procurement as well as effectiveness in supporting farmers’ incomes. The two channels in use for procuring rice till 2015, were custom milling of rice and levy. In the first, the government bought paddy directly from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) and got it milled from private millers; while in the second, it purchased rice from private millers at a pre-announced levy price thus providing indirect price support to farmers. Secondary data reveal that levy, despite implying lower cost of procurement was discriminated against till about a decade back and eventually abolished in 2015 in favor of custom milling, better trusted to provide minimum price support. We analyze data from auctions of paddy from a year when levy was still important to investigate its impact on farmers’ revenues. We use semi-nonparametric estimates of millers’ values to simulate farmers’ expected revenues and find these to be rather close to the MSP; a closer analysis shows that bidder competition is critical to this result. Finally, we use our estimates to quantify the impact of change in levy price on farmers’ revenues and use this to discuss ways to revive the levy channel.

The growth of an emerging capital market is necessary and requires all available resources and inputs from various sources to realize this objective. Several debates on government bonds’ contribution to Nigeria’s capital market developmental growth have ensued but have not triggered comprehensive studies in this area. The present research work seeks to close the breach by probing the impact of government bonds on developing the capital market in Nigeria from 2003–2019. We employ total market capitalization as the response variable to proxy the capital market, while various government bonds serve as the independent variables. The inflation rate moderates the predictor components. The research uses multiple regression technique to assess the explanatory variables’ impact on the total market capitalization. At the same time, diagnostic tests help guarantee the normality of the regression model’s data distribution and appropriateness. The findings reveal that the Federal Government of Nigeria’s (FGN) bond is statistically significant and positive in influencing Nigeria’s capital market growth. The other predictor variables are not found significant in this study. The study suggests that the Government should improve on the government bonds’ coupon, while still upholding the none default norm in paying interest and refunding principal to investors when due.

Climate change is posing a threat on present and future food security in low income countries. But, the actual effect of the climate change on food security is not known. Using secondary data reported by the government, the paper examines the effects of climate change on food security in Nepal in the context of policies of commercialization of farm production. Statistical analysis is used to delineate the situation of food security in the country and regression analysis for exploring the effects of global warming on domestic production of major cereals. The results are discussed at global, national, household and individual levels empirically and qualitatively. The results suggest that a rise in minimum temperature decreases the productivity of rice increasing threat of food insecurity. The paper suggests some policy measures for improving food security situation in the country and open up some areas for further research. Background: Low public awareness of the impact of smoking makes the implementation of smoke-free areas (KTR) difficult. Smoke-free areas aim to protect the public from the direct and indirect effects of smoking. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the application of smoke-free areas and the prevalence of active and ex-smokers in Indonesia. Method: This study implemented a cross-sectional design, using secondary data from the Riskesdas 2018 on active and ex-smokers. KTR application data were obtained from the Profile of Non-Communicable Diseases in 2016. A Pearson product-moment test was conducted by a computer application to determine the correlation coefficient (r). This coefficient was used to describe the level of correlation between the two variables; significance was determined as a p value of 5%. Results: This study showed that the average application of KTR throughout Indonesia was 50.83%, active smokers comprised 23.49% of the population, and ex-smokers comprised 4.94%. Most active smokers were in Java and Sumatra, while the majority of ex-smokers were in Java and Sulawesi and the majority of KTR was in Java. This study shows that there is a positive correlation between KTR application and the percentage of ex-smokers (r = 0.46; p value = 0.01). Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between the application of KTR and an increase in ex-smokers. The government needs to increase the application of KTR policies.

Government Regulation No. 53 of 2010 regarding the discipline of the Civil Servant loading obligations, prohibitions, and disciplinary action which could be taken to the Civil Servant who has been convicted of the offense, is intended to foster a Civil Servant who has committed an offense, the form of disciplinary punishment is mild, moderate, and weight. Disciplinary punishment for the Civil Servant under Government Regulation No. 53 of 2010 Concerning the Discipline of Civil Servants. The formulation of this journal issue contains about how the process of disciplinary punishment, and constraints and efforts to overcome the impact of the Civil Servant disciplinary punishment in Government of Demak regency. The approach used in this study is a sociological juridical approach or juridical empirical, that is an approach that examines secondary data first and then proceed to conduct research in the field of primary data normative. The process of giving disciplinary sanctions for State Civil Apparatus in Government of Demak regency begins with the examination conducted by the immediate supervisor referred to in the legislation governing the authority of appointment, transfer and dismissal of civil servants. The results showed that in general the process of sanctioning / disciplinary punishment of civil servants in the Government of Demak be said to be good and there have been compliance with the existing regulations / applied in Government Regulation No. 53 of 2010, although it encountered the competent authorities judge still apply tolerance against the employee, but also a positive impact among their deterrent good not to repeat the same offense or one level higher than before either the Civil Servant concerned or the other. Obstacles in carrying out disciplinary punishment in Government of Demak regency environment is still low awareness of employees to do and be disciplined in performing the tasks for instance delays incoming work, lack of regulatory discipline, lack of supervision system and any violations of employee discipline. There must be constraints to overcome need for cooperation with other stakeholders comprising Inspectorate, BKPP, and the immediate superior civil servants in this way can be mutually reinforcing mutual communication, consultation, coordination so that if later there is a problem in the future could be accounted for.Keywords: Delivery of Disciplinary Sanctions; Civil Servant; Government Regulation No. 53 of 2010.

This study investigates the impact of fuel price adjusment on changes in fuel consumption and inflation in Indonesia. This study uses secondary data obtained from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade, Bank Indonesia, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), and PT Pertamina (Persero) from 2006 to 2016 and analyzed by using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. Research showed, if the government increases Premium Gasoline's price by 10%, in average its consumption would decrease around 2,99 %. However, if the Pertamax Gasoline's price increases, the consumption of Premium Gasoline would also increase due to substitution effect. Every 10% increase in Subsidized Diesel's price, in average its consumption would decrease around 4,80 % and vice versa. However, if the Pertamina dex's price increases, the consumption of Subsidized Diesel would also increase due to substitution effect. Moreover, IDR1.000/L increase in Premium Gasoline's Price would contribute 1,10 % to the inflation rate. On the other hand, increase in Subsidized Diesel's price does not contribute to the inflation rate.

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) have gained prominence across the globe as a way of gaining competitive advantage and boosting the profit of the companies. The Indian pharmaceutical industry has readily embraced M&As in the recent times and has witnessed a number of profitable deals materialize, while some indeed failed. The success of M&As is contingent upon a variety of factors and eventually has a bearing on how the acquiring and target companies perform. This study intended to identify the various factors that either lead to or impede M&As and to measure their impact on company performance. The factors that motivate and discourage M&As were identified and the importance of factors such as deal size and compulsory licensing requirement in M&A success was assessed and the impact of the all these factors on the performance of the companies was assessed using both primary and secondary data. The encouraging and discouraging aspects of M&A were found to impact company performance significantly, so did the deal size and compulsory licensing requirement. The findings implied that the success of M&As depends on a variety of positive and negative factors and the participating companies need to balance these factors judiciously in order to obtain realistic profits from M&As
