Osteoarthritis of the knee is a common clinical degenerative disease, which occurs in middle-aged and elderly people. Acupuncture therapy has a significant effect in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, and is gradually accepted by more and more patients. Observing the treatment of knee osteoarthritis by different acupuncture and moxibustion therapies, we can find that acupuncture treatment of knee osteoarthritis has the advantages of relieving knee joint pain, improving knee joint function, absorbing knee joint inflammation, and promoting the recovery of damaged soft tissue. The treatment of osteoarthritis provides a more effective treatment plan.

Objective: To explore the effects of sodium hyaluronate combined with Jintiange on knee joint function after arthroscopic debridement. Methods: Totally 122 knee osteoarthritis patients underwent arthroscopic debridement were randomized into control and experimental groups. The interleukin-1β, interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α serum levels were tested via Elisa before and after treatment. The Lysholm knee joint function score, effective rate of treatment, interleukin-1β, interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α expression, visual analogue scale of pain, incidence of adverse reactions and patient satisfaction were compared. Results: Compared with the control group, the effective rate of treatment and the score of Lysholm knee joint function in the other were higher (both P <0.001), and the serum interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α expression and visual analogue scale score were lower (all P <0.001). The incidence of adverse reactions revealed no marked difference (P >0.05), but the satisfaction scores of the experimental group were higher (P <0.01). Conclusion: sodium hyaluronate combined with Jintiange is helpful for knee joint function recovery after arthroscopic knee osteoarthritis, which effectively decreases the level of inflammatory factors and increase patients’ satisfaction.

The restoration of the knee joint function in osteoarthritis is currently a serious problem, despite the list of biomechanical and pharmacotherapeutic methods used. In old age, there is a decrease in compensatory capabilities. When compiling a complex of kinesitherapeutic measures with elderly women, concomitant diseases and the degree of physical fitness were necessarily taken into account. The level of loads was determined taking into account individual characteristics. An obligatory condition before the beginning of the exercise in women was measured heart rate and blood pressure. The methods included classes on specialized simulators, when performing the exercises, the basic principles should be followed: the weight of the burden was determined based on the calculation of 15–20 repetitions; performing exercises with the same burden for a long time (if the weight is chosen incorrectly) in the health aspect is impractical, when performing strength exercises, the emphasis should be on correct breathing and accuracy of movements. In the process of conducting classes, it is necessary to monitor the dynamics of the growth of weights and monitor the physical condition of women.

The aim of this study was to assess a novel approach to treating severe knee osteoarthritis by targeting synovial membrane, superficial articular cartilage, synovial fluid, and subchondral bone by combining intra-articular injections and intraosseous infiltrations of platelet rich plasma. We explored a new strategy consisting of intraosseous infiltrations of platelet rich plasma into the subchondral bone in combination with the conventional intra-articular injection in order to tackle several knee joint tissues simultaneously. We assessed the clinical outcomes through osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS) and the inflammatory response by quantifying mesenchymal stem cells in synovial fluid. There was a significant pain reduction in the KOOS from baseline(61.55±14.11)to week 24(74.60±19.19), after treatment(p=0.008), in the secondary outcomes (symptoms,p=0.004; ADL,p=0.022; sport/rec.,p=0.017; QOL,p=0.012), as well as VAS score (p<0.001) and Lequesne Index(p=0.008). The presence of mesenchymal stem cells in synovial fluid and colony-forming cells one week after treatment decreased substantially from7.98±8.21 MSC/μL to4.04±5.36 MSC/μL(p=0.019)and from601.75±312.30to139.19±123.61  (p=0.012), respectively. Intra-articular injections combined with intraosseous infiltrations of platelet rich plasma reduce pain and mesenchymal stem cells in synovial fluid, besides significantly improving knee joint function in patients with severe knee osteoarthritis. This trial is registered on EudraCT with the number2013-003982-32.

The aim of this investigation was to determine whether been venom (BV) administered directly into an acupoint was a clinically effective and safe method for relieving the pain of patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) as compared to traditional needle acupuncture. We evaluated the efficacy of BV acupuncture using both pain relief scores and computerized infrared thermography (IRT) following 4 weeks of BV acupuncture treatment. We observed that a significantly higher proportion of subjects receiving BV acupuncture reported substantial pain relief as compared with those receiving traditional needle acupuncture therapy. Furthermore, the IRT score was significantly improved and paralleled the level of pain relief.

Abstract Background Osteoarthritis (OA) is a most common orthopaedic condition, often complicated by inflammatory features. Sources of data A systematic search in PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar and Scopus databases (to January 2019) was performed to define the effect obtained in patients with OA of the knee by injections of ozone, on pain and physical function. Six RCTs and 353 patients were included. Areas of agreement Recently, an increasing number of physicians have used ozone therapy to alleviate the symptoms of acute and chronic OA of the knee. Ozone can allow greater mobility of the knee joint, pain relief and decrease in effusion. Areas of controversy The volume and concentration of ozone injected are different in the various treatment protocols published. Growing points The action of ozone is unclear, but it is a promising therapeutic modality capable of impacting, favourably, function and quality of life. Areas timely for developing research The lack of a clear protocol of use is a major limitation, and to date there is no clear evidence of long-term efficacy.

Objectives: Osteoarthritis is one of the most common diseases among older people which is one the most important causes of disability and heavy socio-economic burden on the elderly and society. This study aimed to investigate the effect of melilotus officinalis oil on knee joint pain and stiffness among older adults with mild to moderate primary knee osteoarthritis. Methods & Materials: This is a double-blind randomized controlled clinical trial (registration code: IRCT2016082129461N1). Participants were 61 eligible older adults (35 females and 26 males with a mean age of 78±7.79 years) residing in one of the nursing homes in Tehran, Iran who had mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis clinically diagnosed by an orthopedic physician. Then they were assigned randomly into two groups of intervention and control received melilotus officinalis oil and diclofenac gel, respectively, using a randomization table based on balance block randomization. The data were collected using a demographic form and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) for evaluating knee joint pain and stiffness at baseline, 2 weeks and 4 weeks after the intervention. Collected data were analyzed in SPSS V. 23 software.  Results: There was no statistically significant different between the intervention and control groups in terms of sociodemographic variables (age, education, marital status, occupation, smoking, physical activity, chronic illness, and medication) at baseline. Knee pain (F1,58=119.07, P<0.001) and joint stiffness (F 1,58=19.9, P<0.001) reduced significantly in both groups, where the effect size was higher in the intervention group. No considerable side effect reported during the study. Conclusion: Compared to diclofenac gel, melilotus officinalis oil can reduce knee joint pain and stiffness in older people with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. Therefore, it is suggested for treatment of people with knee osteoarthritis. Further studies are recommended to investigate the mechanism of melilotus oficinalis oil in reducing knee pain and stiffness and determine its effective dosage.

Osteoarthrosis is a degenerative joint condition characterized by progressive loss of joint cartilage. The knee joint is one of the most affected by this disease. Although there are different procedures for the surgical treatment of this pathology, fibular ostectomy in recent years is giving very good results. Although this surgical technique does not eliminate osteoarthritis of the knee, it does improve the symptoms and functional disability of the joint. Fibula Ostectomy is a palliative treatment of choice in knee osteoarthritis.
