Aim: To assess impact of higher education on oral health related knowledge, practices, and lifestyle habits among faculty of King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. Methods: In this descriptive study, a self-administered questionnaire including socio-demographic, oral health awareness, practices, and oral health status questions was distributed among faculty. Descriptive statistics, linear correlation, ANOVA, Independent t-test and logistic regression analysis were used using SPSS. A two-sided significance level of ≤ 5% was implied. Results: Fifty eight percent were males and 91% married. Mean age was 42.8±8.07 years. 66.5% had PhD, 42% were assistant professors. 22% had hypertension, 13.5% diabetes mellitus and elevated cholesterol (23%) and 10% were current smokers. 21% consumed soft drinks, 67% dairy products and 71% fruits daily. Most of the faculty (≥81%) showed a robust oral health related knowledge and 75% practiced oral hygiene measures and 65.5% visited dentist regularly. Almost half (49%) reported dental caries, 66% fillings, 31% gum bleeding, 55% missing teeth, and 24% had artificial teeth. There was a statistically significant difference between females and males regarding lifestyle habits and oral hygiene practices with a mean difference of (p<0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed a significant difference (p<0.001) with respect to gender, income. Conclusion: In this study, majority of the University faculty had an acceptable oral health related knowledge, and demonstrated good oral hygiene practices with a significant impact of gender on oral hygiene practice and life style. Aim: To assess dental caries knowledge, DMFT status and oral hygiene practices among Science and Non-science University students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted through a questionnaire that contained sociodemographic information, questions about oral health knowledge (OHK) assessed on Likert scale (strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree). Questions about dental caries, teeth extracted due to caries, and filled teeth while the fourth section questions were about oral hygiene practices (OHP). Data were processed using SPSS (version 21) with significance level of p≤0.050. Results: Four hundred (400) students participated in current study in which 190 students were from science (medicine and pharmacy) and 210 from non-science (education and arts) colleges. Male and female ratio were 185(46.3%) and 215(53.8%) respectively. Overall, oral health knowledge status was demonstrated as non-significant by both science and non-science students except for question regarding transmission of dental caries. A significant difference was observed between gender (p=0.016) for all questions except question 2 (bacteria is the cause of tooth decay). In addition, a significant difference were observed between urban and rural students (p=0.037) for question 2. No significant difference were observed for decayed, extracted teeth and oral hygiene practices between science and non-science students.. Conclusion: Statistically no significant difference in status of knowledge, decayed and missing teeth and oral hygiene practices was observed between science and non-science students, except for filled teeth. The WHO 2010 reported connection between oral wellbeing and general wellbeing, with common risk factors including poor diet, tobacco use and alcohol consumption. People who suffer from general health problems (diabetes, HIV) are more likelihood to have oral diseases (periodontal diseases) that, in turn, further complicate their overall health.Thus, oral health is an integral part of general wellbeing . One of the many barriers to quality oral healthcare includes a lack of attention to oral health by non-dental health care professionals (e.g., nurses, pharmacists). Nurses, being the primary health care provider to the patients, play an important role in health sector. Aside from dental professional, nurses are an integral part in health promotion and preventive information dissemination, therefore it is important that oral health knowledge should be good to decrease poor oral health outcomes. The aim of this study was to assess oral health knowledge, attitude and oral hygiene practices among nursing student of Apollo School of Nursing , Mizoram.A Questionnaire study was conducted among 150 students of Apollo School of Nursing Mizoram. A self administered structured questionnaire containing oral hygiene knowledge and awareness, attitude and oral hygiene practices questions was distributed . Their response were analyzed and their knowledge and awareness, attitude and oral hygiene practice level(KAP) were evaluated. Statistical Analysis was done by calculating the mean of the KAP level (%) . The present study showed good oral hygiene practices and fair knowledge of oral health among nursing students of Apollo School of Nursing Mizoram

Inadequate oral health knowledge and awareness is more likely to cause oral diseases among all age groups, including children. Reports about the oral health awareness and oral hygiene practices of children in Bangladesh are insufficient. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the oral health awareness and practices of junior school children in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur District, Bangladesh. The study covered 150 children aged 5 to 12 years of age from three primary schools. The study reveals that the students have limited awareness about oral health and poor knowledge of oral hygiene habits. Oral health awareness and hygiene practices amongst the school going children was found to be very poor and create a much-needed niche for implementing school-based oral health awareness and education projects/programs.

Objective: The objective of this study was to access the relationship of halitosis concern with oral health behaviors and knowledge among Myanmar people. Methods: This survey was conducted on 257 samples (93 males and 164 females) with the age range from 16 to 65 years old, in Yangon, Myanmar. All the participants filled a questionnaire focusing on halitosis concern, oral health behaviors, and oral health related knowledge. The correlation between halitosis concern and demographic factors, oral health behaviors, and knowledge were analyzed. Results: 91.8% (n=236) of the sample population with the average age of 32-year-old expressed concern about halitosis, and 65.4% have encountered another person’s bad breath. The participants that reported a concern about halitosis were married people (p<0.05). There is a significant relationship between halitosis concern and oral hygiene practice such as regular toothbrushing, use of toothbrush and toothpaste, less use of any form of tobacco and high oral health knowledge (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that a person who concerns halitosis had better oral hygiene behaviors and oral health knowledge than those who do not a concern. The prevalence of halitosis concern was high, and there is a need to recommend taking proper halitosis measurements by professionals and to improve public knowledge about halitosis. It is essential to support best practices and empowerment for effective self-care.

Background: Periodontal disease is an inflammatory oral disease that affects the soft and hard tissues supporting the teeth. Gingivitis, an early stage, when untreated leads to periodontitis that causes progressive tooth mobility leading towards tooth loss. Periodontitis is ubiquitous and commonly manifests in adult life. Early detection of oral diseases makes them more amenable to treatment and allows better chance of cure. BDS students are young adults who are going to be future oral health care provider. Their knowledge and oral hygiene practices may impact oral health status of a society. Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of oral health and periodontal disease and correlate it with oral hygiene practices among BDS students not exposed to clinical practice. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out among 120 students of first, second and third year BDS at Kantipur Dental College. The students who were not exposed to clinical practice were invited to participate. The data was collected by self-administered structured questionnaire. There were total of 15 questions on knowledge and oral hygiene practice and scores were assigned to each question. Data analysis was done by SPSS 20 software program. Results: The mean knowledge score of the population was 6.58 ± 1.29 and mean practice score as 6.20 ± 1.73. The participants had good knowledge (55%) of oral health and periodontal diseases. However, only 22.5% of participants followed good oral hygiene practices. There was no significant difference of knowledge between males and females (p = 0.831) but a statistically significant difference was seen in the practice of oral hygiene (p = 0.006). Conclusion: Despite having good knowledge (55%) of oral and periodontal health, 77.5% of the BDS students did not follow good oral hygiene practices on a regular basis. Dental students must be encouraged to be good role models in practicing as well as promoting oral health. The authors would like to recommend incorporating some oral health and preventive dentistry topics in the non-clinical BDS curriculum.
