This research aims to obtain describe about the condition of coral reefs and fish around maratua island. Parameter measured to support this research are the percentages of coral cover, abundance of coral fishes, and composition the types of coral fihes. The data field survey was conducted in maratua waters on July 2014. Research sites consisting of 20 station surrounding this island. Result shows that average of coral reefs in reef edge zone in good condition with a coral covered (life coral) 61 % and hard coral composition is 55 % dan soft coral 6 %. The coral reefs covered (stony coral) about 62% in depth 3-6 meters consisting of : 36 % Acropora and 26% non acropora ; and 5% others fauna ; and dead coral abour 22 %. Fish who associated with coral inhabiting waters surrounding maratua island consist of ornamental fish and reef fish consumption, which many found are Pomacentridae, Labridae, Acanthuridae, Chaetodontidae, and Nemipteridae. Result based on field observtion was found about 33 species with diversity index (H’) average 1.57 (relatively small), Uniformity index (E) average 0.3 (depressed community), and donination Index (C) average 0.42 (low).

In the state of Melaka, there are eighteen islands recorded by the Melaka State Museum Corporation (PERZIM). Part of this island serves as a tourist island, and developed islands are also uninhabited islands. However, three islands are recorded to have amazing coral reefs that are still in good condition. The Penang Batu Maung Fisheries Research Institute (AkuaTAR) has conducted a study on the biodiversity of coral reefs around the waters of Pulau Dodol, Pulau Serimbun, and Pulau Undan. AkuaTAR researchers are using scuba diving methods, and at the same time, they did conservation on coral reefs that have been identified in the waters of the Straits of Melaka. The objective of this study is to record the types of community forms such as living corals and identify the species of coral reefs found in three islands in the state of Melaka in Pulau Undan, Pulau Dodol, and Pulau Serimbun. The study also implemented method observation by conducting field studies on the islands involved by doing scuba diving. Results and discussion of the search, these three islands are located in very clean, uninhabited waters. They have a wide range of coral biodiversity using soft coral reefs and hard coral reefs. The study also found that the three islands in the state have the largest coral reefs in the waters of the Straits of Melaka. Keywords: Biodiversity; Conservation; Coral; Three island; Melaka

The ornamental corals as trade target are imported from West Nusa Tenggara. This province is a collection zone for ornamental corals, but rarely conduct coral condition monitoring and also observation of the existence of ornamental corals. The purpose of this study was to get data of ornamental corals existence and coral reefs conditions in Saleh Bay. Research was conducted on May 6–11, 2015 at 6 locations based on the distance from the mainland with the representation of two representative spots on each location,  such as in-shore, mid-shore and off-shore. The research used line intercept transect method to obtain coral reefs condition data and the belt transect method to obtain the ornamental corals data. The results obtained were as follows: coral reefs condition were in good condition with the life coral cover was above 50%, except at station 4 (mid-shore). Acropora colonies were more common in off-shore locations (station 5 and 6). The substrate was dominated by rubble and dead coral with algae (DCA). The trade-targeted ornamental corals were found in 28 genera, such as Euphyllia glabrescens, Euphyllia cristata, Euphyllia ancora, Echinophora sp., Goniopora sp., Lobophyllia sp., Physogyra sp., Merulina sp. and Turbinaria sp. Because of the low existence of ornamental corals at observation sites, collaborative observation with ornamental corals collectors should be conducted for determining the exact location of ornamental corals collecting zones.

Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan April hingga Mei 2012. Tutupan karang diamati dengan menggunakan Metode <em>Point Intercept Transect </em>(PIT) dan makro invertebrata diamati dengan menggunakan metode Teknik<em>Visual Sensus</em>. Hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa lebih dari 50% tutupan karang keras pada ketiga stasiun pengamatan. Genus yang paling mendominasi pada ketiga stasiun adalah <em>Acropora </em>dengan persentase lebih dari 20% pada setiap stasiun pengamatan. Kelimpahan makro avertebrata berkisar antara 3,75 hingga 7,75 ind/transek. Kelimpahan makro invertebrata terbesar adalah <em>Diadema setosum</em> dengan persentase lebih dari 40% pada setiap stasiun pengamatan. Indeks keanekaragaman (<em>H’</em>) karang dan makro investebrata berkisar antara  0,74 - 1.36 dan 0,98 – 1,5 secara berurutan. Secara umum berdasarkan indeks yang digunakan, kondisi terumbu karang dan makro invertebrata di Ujong Pancu tergolong baik.</p>Kata kunci : Terumbu Karang; Makro avertebrata; Ujong Pancu.

Terumbu karang memiliki keunikan diantara asosiasi atau komunitas lautan yang seluruhnya dibentuk oleh kegiatan biologis. Umumnya terdapat karang keras (hard coral) dan karang lunak (soft coral). Karang lunak (Octocorallia, Alcyonacea) merupakan hewan anggota Colenterata yang hidup di perairan dangkal tropis dan subtropis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi karang lunak, dan menganalisis persen tutupan terumbu karang pada daerah rataan dan daerah tubir di perairan Desa Pandanga, Kabupaten Pulau Morotai. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan November - Desember 2019. Pengambilan data karang menggunakan metode LIT, dengan menetapkan 4 (empat) stasiun pengamatan masing-masing stasiun yang dibagi menjadi 2 (dua) daerah yaitu pada daerah tubir dan rataan. Setiap lifeform karang yang dilewati transek di dokumentasi dalam bentuk gambar yang selanjutnya akan diidentifikasi dan menghitung persentase tutupan karang lunak. Hasil penelitian menunjukan karang lunak yang ditemukan sebanyak 7 (tujuh) genus yaitu Sinularia, Isis, Cladiella, Lobophytum, Sarcophyton, Klyxum, dan Rumphella. Hasil analisis persen tutupan tertinggi untuk semua stasiun terdapat pada genus Sinularia (20,6%) di daerah tubir, sedangkan pada daerah rataan dengan persentase tertinggi terdapat pada genus Lobophytum (8,0%).SOFT CORAL COVERAGE IN PANDANGA VILLAGE WATERS, MOROTAI ISLAND REGENCY. Coral reefs are unique among oceanic associations or communities that are entirely formed by biological activities. Generally there are hard corals and soft corals. Soft corals Octocorallia, Alcyonacea) are members of the Colenterata that live in tropical and subtropical shallow waters. The aim of this study was to identify soft corals and analyze the percent cover of coral reefs in the flat areas and slope areas in the waters of Pandanga Village, Morotai Island Regency. This research was conducted in November - December 2019. The collection of coral data using the LIT method, by determine 4 (four) observation stations of each station which are divided into 2 (two) regions that in reef flat areas and reef slope areas. Each coral lifeform crossed by a transect is in the form of an image which will then be identified and calculate the percentage of soft coral cover. The results showed that there were 7 (seven) genera of soft corals Sinularia, Isis, Cladiella, Lobophytum, Sarcophyton, Klyxum, and Rumphella. The results of the highest percent cover analysis for all stations are in the genus Sinularia (20.6%) in the flat area, in reef flat areas the highest percentage in the genus Lobophytum (8.0%).


Coral reefs supply vital ecosystem services to the Philippines. Safeguarding these services requires the rapid identification of reefs that provide most services, and identification is best made by measuring hard coral cover and diversity and using updated and locally relevant assessment scales on these measurements. The use of these assessment scales has advantages and is recommended to update and improve Philippine laws.

Kepulauan Indonesiamemiliki sejumlahArea Perlindungan Laut dan Taman Nasional yang merupakan tempat tinggal bagi organisme laut dengan tingkat keanekaragaman yang tinggi. Karimunjawa sebagai salah satu Taman Nasional, dikenal mempunyai keanekaragaman terumbu karang yang tinggi dan merupakan salah satu kawasan yang digunakan sebagai area studi keanekaragaman laut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengestimasi keanekaragaman organisme pada habitat terumbu karang yang terdapat di kawasan pesisir Karimunjawa. Metode sampling semi-kuantitatif digunakan untuk mengestimasi keanekaragaman terumbu karang, dengan menggunakan anggota kelompok dekapoda sebagai perwakilan. Enam belas terumbu karang mati (dead coral head) dari anggota Pocillopora, di koleksi dengan ukuran yang sama pada kedalaman 10 meter di kawasan Pulau Menjangan Besar, Karimunjawa. Seluruh dekapoda yang dikumpulkan, diidentifikasi sampai tingkat famili dan menunjukkan terdapat 11 famili dari total 203 individu. Nilai statistik dari kekayaan spesies (Chao1 and ACE) menunjukkan hanya 11 famili dekapoda yang dapat ditemukan di kawasan tersebut. Hasil kurva rarefaksi menunjukkan nilai yang mencapai titik kesetimbangan setelah karang mati ke-empat belas, yang mengindikasikan bahwa penambahan koleksi sampel tidak akan mengubah estimasi keanekaragaman yang ditemukan. Index keanekaragaman Shanon-Wiener juga menunjukkan nilai keanekaragaman yang rendah dengan nilai 1.9. Hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai dasar pemahaman bagi keseluruhan keanekaragaman terumbu karang yang terdapat pada suatu kawasan dan sebagai dasar pengetahuan untuk tujuan pengamatan ekosistem terumbu karang bagi perlindungan dan konservasi. The Indonesian archipelago, with its higher number of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) and National Parks, is a home to a high diversity of marine organisms. Karimunjawa is an Indonesian National Park that is well known for its diverse coral reefs and therefore is an important place to study marine biodiversity. In the present study, the biodiversity of reef organisms was estimated in the coastal marine habitat of Karimunjawa. A semi-quantitative sampling method was used to estimate reef biodiversity using decapod group as a representative. Sixteen similar sized dead coral heads of Pocillopora were sampled from 10 m depth at Menjangan Besar Island, Karimunjawa. All decapods were sorted and identified to the family level, yielding 11 families from total 203-collected individuals. Species richness statistics (Chao1 and ACE) suggest that only 11 families of decapods can be found in this area. Rarefaction curves approached an asymptote after sampling fourteen heads, indicated that sample addition will not alter the estimate diversity found in this location with Shanon-Wiener diversity index of 1.9 indicated low diversity. Our findings may provide a basic understanding of the overall biodiversity of a reef area and a basic knowledge in monitoring coral reefs ecosystems for protection and conservation. This research aims to know the percentage of living coral cover in the village of Sepagar. The benefits of this research are as input for the parties involved in the efforts of the management and conservation of coral reefs in the waters of the village Sepagar. The results of the observation and calculation of the coral reefs is done using the method of Point Intercept Trancek (PIT) shows that the community of coral reefs in the waters of the Sepagar included in the types of coral reefs of the sandbar (patch reef). Generally burnt coral reefs grow and develop in the relatively shallow waters with depths ranging from 1-5 meters. The results showed on the three stations found 7 of the 10 components of the reef that is. Acropora (AC), Non-Acropora (NA), Dead Coral with Algae (DCA), Dead Coral (DC), Soft Coral Sand (SC) (S), and the Rubble (R). Component not found is Fleshy Seawed (FS), Rock (RK) and Silt (SL). At station 1, the total percentage of living coral closure (living cover) by 51.4%, In station 2 of 55,3 % , and in station 3 of 51.3 % .The percentage the coral lived in waters sepagar in good not far different the percentage the coral live in every station.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk  mengetahui Jenis dan sebaran ikan target konsumsi di Teluk Majene Prov, Sulawesi barat. Kondisi terumbu karang didata dengan menggunakan metode Transek segmen atau Point Intersept Transect  (PIT). Transek tersebut dibentangakan sesuai dengan titik yang telah ditentukan selanjutnya seorang penyelam melakukan penyelaman sepanjang transek 50 meter dan mencatat di kertas tahan air (underwater paper) substrat ataupun bentos yang berada tepat di bawah transek garis. Sedangkan jarak interval (point) pencatatan substrat ataupun bentos adalah setiap 50 cm ( Hill dan Wilkinson, 2004). Adapun kategori yang amati tiap titik 0,5 m yaitu Hard Coral (HC), Soft Coral (SC), Rubble (R), Dead Coral (DC),  Dead Coral Algae (DCA), dan Sand (S). Kelimpahan ikan target yang menghuni ekosistem terumbu karang didata dengan menggunakan metode sensus secara langsung  (Visual Census Method) (English et al.,1994), secara teknis pendataan ini dilakukan dengan metode belt transek.. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Terdapat 28 jenis ikan karang yang merupakan target atau konsumsi penting di Teluk Majene. Jenis ikan yang terbanyak adalah dari jenis Caesio sp. Sedangkan untuk sebarannya, ikan target terdapat di seluruh ekosistem terumbu karang Teluk Majene. Sebaran yang terbanyak ada pada lokasi stasiun 6 tepatnya di Lingkungan Pasarang, Kelurahan Totoli.

Indonesia, as an archipelagic country, is very vulnerable to various pressures; for example, the case of ship grounding is a great concern of scientists, managers, divers, and sailors themselves. Most of the damage is very severe. The purpose of the research conducted is to identify the condition of the live coral cover, mapping the type and extent of coral reef damage, affected coral species, their conservation status, and to quantify the extent of the area of coral reef damage. Measuring the extent of damage to coral reef ecosystems using the fishbone method, while the level of damage and its impact was measured using the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) and belt transect method. The event of the grounding of the MV Lyric Poet on the Bangka Waters, Bangka-Belitung Province, has caused damage to the coral reef ecosystem. There are four damage zones identified, i.e., trajectory, mound, propeller, and dispersion zone. Corals are damaged with a total area of 13.540m2; equivalent to twice that of an international football field. Diversity of hard coral found as many as 49 species included in the CITES-Appendix II. A total of eight protected species are included in the IUCN Red List with extinction-prone status.

ABSTRAK: Ekosistem terumbu karang merupakan habitat berbagai biota laut bernilai ekonomis tinggi. Ekowisata merupakan perjalanan wisata ke wilayah alami maupun buatan dengan tujuan konservasi untuk menjamin kelestarian alam dan sosial- budaya. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui potensi biofisik terumbu karang untuk pengembangan ekowisata serta mengetahui analisis strategi pengembangan ekowisata terumbu karang di Pulau Sintok Karimunjawa. Pengamatan biofisik ekosistem terumbu karang dilakukan menggunakan metode LIT atau Line Transect. Data yang didapat dianalisis menggunakan indeks kesesuaian ekowisata selam dan analisis SWOT. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa tutupan karang hidup di Pulau Sintok pada keempat titik pengambilan berkisar antara 30-82%. Berdasarkan analisis kesesuaian ekowisata, kawasan perairan Pulau Sintok memiliki nilai IKW (Indeks Kesesuaian Wisata) >50 – 83% dimana nilai 50% - < 80% termasuk kedalam kelas (S2) atau suitable dan nilai IKW 83% termasuk ke dalam kategori (S1) atau sangat sesuai untuk dijadikan sebagai ekowisata terumbu karang kategori selam. Analisis strategi pengelolaan kawasan pengembangan ekowisata di perairan Pulau Sintok adalah dengan :  pengelolaan kawasan terumbu karang sebagai ekowisata secara optimal, perlunya upaya pencegahan kerusakan ekosistem terumbu karang untuk dijadikan kawasan ekowisata, pengembangan sistem informasi serta meningkatkan sarana prasarana pengelolaan ekowisata, dan Penegakkan hukum dan peraturan perundang-undangan demi penerapan pengelolaan terumbu karang secara lestari. ABSTRACT: The coral reef ecosystems are habitats for various marine biota, which have a high economic value. Coral reef ecosystems provide merits to support the marine tourism industry for foreign exchange earnings. They also provide significant employment and business opportunities. Coral reef ecosystems which have a good condition can be developed into coral reef ecotourism. Ecotourism is a tour to natural and artificial areas with the purpose of conservation to ensure the natural and socio-cultural sustainability. The purpose of this research is to find out the biophysical potential of the coral reefs for the development of ecotourism, and to perceive the analysis of the development strategy of coral reef ecotourism in Sintok Island, Karimunjawa. The biophysical observation of coral reef ecosystems is conducted with LIT or Line Transect method. The data obtained is analyzed using ecotourism suitability index and SWOT analysis. The result of this research shows that living coral cover on Sintok Island at the four taking points ranged from 30-82%. According to the analysis of ecotourism suitability, Sintok Island waters area has IKW value (Tourism Suitability Index) >50-83%. The value of 50%-<80% belongs to the class (S2) or suitable, and the IKW value of 83% belongs to the category (S1) or very suitable to be used as coral reef ecotourism category. The analysis of the management strategy of ecotourism development area in Sintok Island waters are as follows: (1) The optimal management of coral reef area as ecotourism, (2) The prevention of coral reef ecosystems from damage, (3) The development of information system, as well as the enhancement of ecotourism management infrastructure, and (4) The enforcement of laws and regulations for the sake of coral reefs’ sustainable management.
