Corrosion inhibition and adsorption behavior of two triazole derivatives on API 5L-B carbon steel in CO2-saturated 3.5% NaCl solutions was investigated using potentiodynamic polarization, EIS, and EFM techniques. Specimen surfaces were characterized using SEM, EDX, and XRD. Results show that the two compounds are mixed-type inhibitors and inhibition efficiency increases with increasing concentrations. Adsorption of the two compounds chemisorption and obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Activation energy and thermodynamic parameters were calculated. Surface analyses confirm the formation of iron nitrides on the metal surface which supports results obtained from previous techniques.

The corrosion inhibition effectiveness of Aizoon canariense for carbon steel (CS) in 2 M HCl (the corrosive medium) has been examined by employing chemical and electrochemical methods. The inhibition efficiency was found to improve with a rise in the environment's extract and temperature concentration. The inhibitive effect of this extract was explained on the basis of adsorption on the metal surface; the adsorption effect follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The percent inhibition efficiency (IE%) reached 90.23% at 45oC, and activation energy (E*a) has been determined in the presence and absence of Aizoon canariense extract. The corrosion rate was calculated and revealed that Aizoon canariense has a good inhibition effect on CS. The surface morphology of CS was examined by employing various techniques. The polarization results indicated that this extract acts as a mixed kind inhibitor. The parameters for the corrosion procedure have also been determined and discussed.

A heterocyclic imidazoline, 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl-2-imidazolines (TMP2I) was tested for its corrosion inhibition in 0.5 M H2SO4and 1 M HCl using weight loss, Tafel polarisation and electrochemical impedance techniques. The results show that the inhibition efficiency increases with the increase in concentration of TMP2I and the higher efficiency of about 98% is obtained in both the acid media at 20 ppm. The adsorption of TMP2I obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm and occurs spontaneously. Cathodic and anodic polarization curves of mild steel in the presence of different concentrations of TMP2I at 300C reveal that it is a mixed type of inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance studies reveal that the system follows mixed mode of inhibition. The surface morphology of the mild steel specimens was evaluated using SEM images

The use of inorganic inhibitors as an alternative to organic compounds is based on the possibility of degradation of organic compounds with time and temperature. The inhibition effect of potassium iodide on the corrosion of pure iron in 0.5 M H2SO4 has been studied by weight loss. It has been observed from the results that the inhibition efficiency (IE%) of KI increases from 82.17% to 97.51% with the increase in inhibitor concentration from 1·10−4 to 2·10−3 M. The apparent activation energy (Ea) and the equilibrium constant of adsorption (Kads) were calculated. The adsorption of the inhibitor on the pure iron surface is in agreement with Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

The corrosion of carbon steel in 0.3 and 3% mass hydrochloric acid containing the concentration range 50-800 ppm of Thiourea (Th), Quinoline (Q), Dliethylamine (DEA) and Pyridine (P) were investigated using electrochemical methods. The investigation aims to mention the best organic inhibitor among several compounds to be used in synergic inhibitors. The inhibition efficiencies of thiourea and quinoline are better than pyridine and diethylamine in 0.3 mass% HCl. Thiourea is better than quinoline in 3 mass% HCl and its inhibition efficiency is 83.7%. Generally, the corrosion rate decreases with increasing inhibitors concentration. Diethylamine and pyridine are not effective. The polarization curves indicate that the used inhibitors influenced the cathodic reaction more than the anodic reaction and they are considered as a mixed type inhibitors

The adsorption behavior of thiazole inhibitior on the surface of N80 carbon steel was studied by potentiodynamic polarization curves in heterogeneous NaCl solution at pH=4. The electrochemical parameters were fitted. The result shows that thiazole inhibitor is of anodic adsorption, and the inhibition efficiency increases with the concentration increasing (4.9×10-4~1.9×10-3mol/L), but decreases with the temperature increasing (30~60°C). The thermodynamics of this adsorption was also discussed. The result is shown that the adsorption is according with Langmuir adsorption isotherm formula in acidic condition, and adsorption is a spontaneous behavior.

The corrosion inhibition of the aged 18 Ni 250 grade maraging steel in 0.5 M sulphuric acid by diacetyl monoxime thiosemicarbazone (DAMTSC) at 303–323 K has been investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, EIS, and SEM techniques. Good inhibition efficiency of DAMTSC was revealed even at low concentrations, which increased with the increase in DAMTSC concentration and decreased with the increase in temperature. The activation energies, , as well as other thermodynamic parameters (; ; ), were evaluated and discussed. The adsorption of DAMTSC on the aged maraging steel surface was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and shows mixed type inhibition behavior.

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 5.0 M HCl by 1–phenylaminomethyl-benzimidazo -le (PMB) was studied by gravimetric and potentiodynamic polarization methods. Inhibition efficiency of PMB increased with increase in the concentration of inhibitor and decreased with the increase in temperature. PMB acts as anodic-type inhibitor for mild steel. The adsorption of PMB on mild steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

Preparing chemicals from natural product is a simple way to green chemistry. May flavonoids and protocatechuic acid have been found in Ilex Chinensis Sims leaves extracts, which indicates its extracts suitable to be used as an effective corrosion inhibitor. Extracts of Ilex Chinensis Sims leaves (HE) were modified with hydroxymethylation reaction and Mannich reaction to produce the relative stable green acidic corrosion inhibitors (HM1 and HM2). The extracts of Ilex Chinensis Sims leaves and the modified samples were investigated on the corrosion inhibition of A3 steel accordingly. The results show that these inhibitors have effective corrosion inhibition effect on A3 steel. The HM2 are the most effective for corrosion inhibition, and the inhibition efficiency can reach to 78.36%. At 60 °C, the corrosion inhibition efficiency of these three extracts is HM2 > HM1 > HE. And the extracts inhibit corrosion mainly by adsorption mechanism. This adsorption accords with Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

Aluminum alloys are less corrosion resistance compared to the pure aluminum. The less corrosion resistance of the aluminum alloys results from trading their mechanical strength and stability with their corrosion resistance. Aluminum alloys show inhibition in alkaline, acidic, neutral chloride free, and chloride media. This study covers studies done on different inhibitors used in corrosion inhibition of aluminum alloys in various media. Generally, the inhibition efficiency of the inhibitors increases with increase in the concentration of the inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency also depends on the characteristic of the inhibitor; whether it is a mixed-type, anodic, or cathodic inhibitor. The experimental data fit in Langmuir adsorption isotherm indicates physical adsorption, while Gibb’s free energy values show that aluminum alloys’ corrosion inhibition is by spontaneous adsorption process. The addition of chloride in alkaline solution improves corrosion inhibition of aluminum alloys.

The corrosion inhibition effect and mechanism of the amino acid ionic liquids—1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium Lysine ([BMIm][Lys]) for carbon steel in 5% H2SO4solution are investigated by electrochemical tests. The results indicate that the [BMIm][Lys] has a good inhibition performance for the carbon steel in 5% H2SO4solution. The corrosion inhibition efficiency improves with the increase of the concentration, which arrives at 95% ultimately. The study also shows that the inhibitors are mixed-type ones. The adsorption of the inhibitor molecules on the carbon steel surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
