The article examines the indices of the digital economy and performed a statistical analysis of individual indicators. On the basis of cluster analysis, homogeneous regions in terms of the level of the digital economy have been identified. Four clusters of regions with varying degrees of digitalization have been obtained. Discriminatory functions have been built to categorize regions as specific clusters. The use of discriminatory functions to determine the belonging of regions to the resulting clusters is shown. A multidimensional analysis of the digital economy of the regions, based on cluster technologies and discriminatory models, has been proposed.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop a methodology based on multivariate statistical analysis of principal components and cluster analysis, in order to identify the most representative variables in studies of minimum streamflow regionalization, and to optimize the identification of the hydrologically homogeneous regions for the Doce river basin. Ten variables were used, referring to the river basin climatic and morphometric characteristics. These variables were individualized for each of the 61 gauging stations. Three dependent variables that are indicative of minimum streamflow (Q7,10, Q90 and Q95). And seven independent variables that concern to climatic and morphometric characteristics of the basin (total annual rainfall – Pa; total semiannual rainfall of the dry and of the rainy season – Pss and Psc; watershed drainage area – Ad; length of the main river – Lp; total length of the rivers – Lt; and average watershed slope – SL). The results of the principal component analysis pointed out that the variable SL was the least representative for the study, and so it was discarded. The most representative independent variables were Ad and Psc. The best divisions of hydrologically homogeneous regions for the three studied flow characteristics were obtained using the Mahalanobis similarity matrix and the complete linkage clustering method. The cluster analysis enabled the identification of four hydrologically homogeneous regions in the Doce river basin.

The objective of the study is to examine the educational level and the social profile of the indigenous people of Ecuador by means of a descriptive and multidimensional statistical analysis of this sector of the Ecuadorian population, based on data from the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment from 2015. The descriptive analysis shows the frequency and percentages of the variables used in the investigation, while the multidimensional statistical analysis is used in order to show the principal and most important criteria of differentiation and classification among the groups of people investigated. These methods involve a factorial analysis of multiple correspondences which demostrates the criteria of differentiation and a hierarchical cluster analysis to define groups of people according to their common traits.

This work shows the results obtained during the search for hidden patterns using statistical algorithms, in a bibliographic database. For this research the WinIDAMS v.1.3 software, used for data management, building an IDAMS dataset (BUILD) and Data Group (AGGREG) for statistical analysis algorithms, Cluster analysis was selected (CLUSFIND) and scatterplots (SCAT). In addition to the outputs of the results this software provides multidimensional tables, able to create for each group of selected variables, an internal table with results such as frequency and average arithmetic were selected for these tests, while for graphical representation of theresults, it was decided to use histograms, because they are bar graphs that allow us to interpret very easily and quickly, the behavior of the variables selected for analysis. This study found patterns through clustering, with which services could enhance Selective Dissemination of Information and propose new services, to become part of the products offered by the library.

Regional infrastructure of the digital economy is the object of this paper. And the subject is the institutional mechanisms for the infrastructure distribution from the urban lattice to the small rural settlement in the districts peripheral territories. Authors made analysis of the volumes, structure and priorities of the national project "Digital Economy" financing. A forecast is made for financing R&D in the Russian Federation in the period 2019-2024 based on government documents, forecasts of GDP and the ruble exchange rate. A comparative analysis of the adequacy of R&D funding in the Russian Federation is carried out. The problem that Russian districts will face in the transformation to the digital economy is identified - a deficit in the infrastructure of the digital economy and the spatial characteristics of this deficit are revealed. The author formulated the concepts of objective (structural) and subjective (strategic) barriers to investment in regional infrastructure. Methods for solving a district level open problem based on statistical analysis are proposed. Based on the institutional approach, two tasks have been set for the district authorities and the possibility of solving them has been proved.

This research provides a statistical analysis of the mechanical and physical properties of thermal insulating mortars developed in the laboratory and by the industry with and without the incorporation of nanomaterials. This was evaluated by carrying out a uni and bivariate analysis, principal components and factor analysis, cluster analysis, and the application of regression models. The results show that it is possible to find associations between these mortars’ properties, but also how these formulations’ development can be approached in the future to achieve better overall performance. They also show that the use of nanomaterials, namely silica aerogel, significantly improved the mortars’ thermal insulation capabilities, allowing us to obtain mortar formulations with thermal conductivities below the values presented by classic thermal insulating materials. Therefore, with this investigation, other researchers can support their product-development choices when incorporating nanomaterials to reduce mortars’ thermal conductivities, increasing their production efficiency, overall multifunctionality, and sustainability.

School students (15–16 years) in six regions of Wales were recorded telling stories in their local English dialects. Some of these narratives were used as samples representing the main English dialect regions in Wales. Comparable groups of students (n = 169) and a group of teachers (n = 47) rated the audio-recorded speakers on a number of scales of affiliation, status, and Welshness. Statistical analysis of their ratings, employing cluster analysis and multidimensional scaling, made it possible to detect some of the competing or additive effects of dialect and narrative features. Judgments of “Welshness” of the speaker/narratives were grounded in the regional dialect properties; but other judgments, such as the likability of the speakers, tended to draw on features of both dialect and narrative. In addition, comparison of students and teachers revealed differences in their evaluations of particular dialect communities and the characteristics of the narratives. The findings illustrate the importance of approaching the analysis of dialect variation within the broader context of speech and discourse performance.

The important role of finite mixture models in the statistical analysis of data is underscored by the ever-increasing rate at which articles on mixture applications appear in the statistical and general scientific literature. The aim of this article is to provide an up-to-date account of the theory and methodological developments underlying the applications of finite mixture models. Because of their flexibility, mixture models are being increasingly exploited as a convenient, semiparametric way in which to model unknown distributional shapes. This is in addition to their obvious applications where there is group-structure in the data or where the aim is to explore the data for such structure, as in a cluster analysis. It has now been three decades since the publication of the monograph by McLachlan & Basford (1988) with an emphasis on the potential usefulness of mixture models for inference and clustering. Since then, mixture models have attracted the interest of many researchers and have found many new and interesting fields of application. Thus, the literature on mixture models has expanded enormously, and as a consequence, the bibliography here can only provide selected coverage.

Morphological characteristics of local populations of European vendace Coregonus albula (L.) in some lakes of Latvia during 50 years The vendace (Coregonus albula (L.)) is a widespread fish in the waters of the Holarctic and has been much studied in regard to history of spread and evolution. Statistical analysis of morphometric and meristic changes in Coregonus albula in some Latvian lakes for the last 50 years was conducted. Cluster analysis of meristic parameters showed that the vendace populations of lakes Stirnu - Alūksnes have become closer in meristic properties while the vendace populations of lakes Drīdzis - Sventes have become more dissimilar. The diversity and variation of morphological characteristics of vendace in the studied lakes are within the range of variations of the European vendace (Coregonus albula), although due to its flexibility it makes a lake-specific form depending on the local conditions of each reservoir. The discovered differences in the vendace populations from Lakes Nirzas, Rāznas, Stirnu, Alūksnes, Drīdzis, and Sventes seem to have resulted solely from/due to the adaptation of vendace to living conditions, which has changed during the previous 50 years.

The physico-chemical properties of commercial canned whole tomatoes (i.e., peeled tomatoes with about 30% tomato juice as packing medium) and the contribution of various analytical parameters to some sensory attributes were evaluated using multivariate statistical analysis. In addition, cluster analysis was used to determine the existence of significant qualitative differences between the old and famous San Marzano variety (as described on the commercial labels by the manufacturers) and traditional (without any specification on the tomato variety) canned whole tomatoes.
