Kenya, like other countries in Africa and across the world is in the grip of technological advances leading its agencies and parastatals to digitize their operations. A pertinent question, therefore, is whether adult and community education, in its current packaging in Kenya, is empowering the participants to engage in using e-consumer services actively, meaningfully, and in beneficial ways in their daily transactions. This study, therefore, sought to investigate the level of integration of e-Consumer elements in Adult and Community Education. The study adopted a mixed-method research study targeting adult learners in Nairobi County, adult education officers, and adult education instructors. The study collected data using interviews and questionnaires. The study established that integration of ICT services in adult centers is still facing numerous challenges which are evident by the poor use of e-consumer services by the adult learners.

This chapter serves as a guideline for outlining the core characteristics of mixed methods research (MMR) and the various steps researchers undertake in order to conduct a research study. The purpose is to create a worksheet assisting the researcher step by step from beginning to end following the seven steps to conducting research. While the focus is on MMR the steps are similar for any type of research methodology. It is important to note that MMR is not a limiting form of research. Researchers need a MMR question and a mixed methods purpose statement for the research project. This chapter will also help explain why mixed method research is one of the best approaches in answering a research question. Finally, the chapter includes a suggestion to the importance of adding a visual diagram of the MMR into the research project and into the final report.

Child welfare organizations are increasingly concerned with challenges emerging from the assessment of social workers’ dissatisfaction. This type of service represents the work area where social workers are at greater risk of burnout. Although several studies account for high social workers’ burnout scores, they do not systematically dwell upon its sources and roots. In addition, scholars point out that a considerable number of work related issues may be perceived both as a source of dissatisfaction and satisfaction. We assume that there is a need to deepen the understanding of how dissatisfaction’s sources may exert an impact on both personal job satisfaction and professional self-efficacy, which are positively associated with well-being at work. The present mixed-method research has two aims: (1) the extensive exploration, applying qualitative methodology, of the perceived sources of dissatisfaction; (2) the attempt to identify the extent to which those sources predict job satisfaction and professional self-efficacy. It is our purpose to further explore which differences emerge by age. The research involved child welfare workers, that is, SWs employed in public child welfare agencies in the North East of Italy. Results show the predominant role of interpersonal trust and mutual respect, as main predictors of both professional self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Practical implications of findings are discussed.

Squatters are the illegal tenants residing in public lands as immigrants due to livelihood collapse in their origins. They have been denied of public resources and urban facilities because of their identity crisis leading to a vicious circle of poverty with impoverished livelihood creating multifaceted adversities of learning for their children. In this context, this paper, based on a cyclical mixed method research design under transformative research approach, has explored the learning adversities faced by the squatter children of Kathmandu Metropolitan city, their protective and promotive strategies to cope with adversities and life-skills as learning outcomes. Squatter children are struggling against the backdrop of exposure to unhygienic settlements with low health conditions, poverty with impoverished livelihood, and illiteracy of parents, poor homely environment, and dysfunctional families. Despite such adversities, they were able to continue school education with the support of their teachers, peers, parents and families. The research study finds stronger family and community assets of the students. These assets are helpful for building educational resilience of the squatter children.

Purpose: This study was done to investigate the mediating effect of occupational stress on the relationship between ICU nurse’s authentic leadership and turnover intention, and to analyze the causes of turnover in ICU nurses.Methods: A convergent mixed method was used. Participants were 100 out of 207 ICU nurses in the original data that were acquired in Daegu, Ulsan, and Busan, in February and March 2017. Participants were asked with open-ended question: "what are the causes for turnover intention" and summative content analysis and thematic analysis were done. Results: The mean scores for authentic leadership, occupational stress, and turnover intention were 3.09, 43.74, and 45.66, respectively. Occupational stress showed full mediation in the relationship between authentic leadership and turnover intention. The qualitative data showed that the most causes of turnover intention were in the organization (60.6%) instead of individuals (39.4%). Conclusion: Authentic leadership influenced the ICU nurse’s turnover intention via the full mediating effect of occupational stress. The ‘organization-oriented variables’ play a more important role than 'individual-oriented variables' in the reduction of the turnover intention of ICU nurses. The findings from this study may be useful in reducing turnover intention.

Mathematical communication skills are important, and education should facilitate students to improve their mathematical communication skills. The purpose of this study was to develop e-learning based on Moodle to improve students' mathematical communication and self-efficacy and student self-efficacy and describe how to students’ mathematic communication and student self-efficacy. This study used mixed-method research. The population in this study were Year 5 students at a private primary school. Data collection techniques used in this study are observation and tests. The implementation with Moodle was effective to the students’ mathematic communication and self-efficacy student. Overall, the students’ mathematical communication skills and self-efficacy of students using E-learning based Moodle is better than those using conventional learning. Also, self-efficacy positively affects students' communication skills with a very strong correlation coefficient, meaning that the higher students' self-efficacy, the higher students' communication skills.

Summative assessment aims at providing measurement of student's understanding. It is argued that summative assessment is used for reporting and reviewing, besides providing an overall judgment of achievement. While summative assessment is a well defined process for learning that takes place in the classroom environment, its application within the Work-based Learning (WBL) practice environment is still being structured. This paper discusses the effectiveness of summative assessment in WBL practice from a mixed-method research study involving both quantitative and qualitative analysis. A survey questionnaire was designed for exploring the perceptions of mentors and students about summative assessment in WBL practice. The questionnaire was administered to the University of Mauritius students and mentors who supervised students for their WBL practice at the respective placement settings. Some students were also interviewed to capture their views and experiences about the application of summative assessment in WBL practice. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with three experienced mentors who have assessed students on WBL practice. Findings reveal that most students had positive experiences about their summative assessments in WBL practice. They felt comfortable and confident to be assessed by their mentors in their placement settings and wished that the effort and time that they devoted to their learning be recognized and valued. Mentors also confirmed that summative assessment is a valid and reliable strategy in WBL practice, enabling them to better monitor and coach students to achieve the expected learning outcomes.
