Group work and leadership skills are essential skills of 21st-century students. For students to develop these skills well, teacher students and teachers  need to be trained and practice proficiency at schools. This study was conducted to show how group teaching in university was practiced in schools. The study is carried out in two phases: at VNU University of Education firstly when observing  students’ teacher classrooms and secondly students’ classroom at primary/ secondary schools. The findings of the study are used to suggest guidance for good practice in leadership and management training courses in Vietnam.

The University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine’s SELECT program was developed to equip medical students with healthcare leadership skills as they progress through the medical curriculum by providing them with leadership and management training, as well as a curriculum based on emotional intelligence. Medical students spend their pre-clerkship years in Tampa, Florida and then spend their clinical years at the Lehigh Valley Health Network regional campus in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The authors describe how faculty at the regional campus are involved with student and academic affairs on the main campus and the process of helping students transition not only from the pre-clinical to clinical years but also transition from Florida to Pennsylvania.

IntroductionThe National Health Service Long Term Plan recognises that excellent quality care requires great leadership. Understanding junior doctor experiences of leadership development can inform organisations to improve trainee leadership skills.MethodsA survey of South West (SW) England trainees was conducted to capture views on leadership and management training.ResultsResults came from 190 trainees across both SW deaneries, areas of practice and all training stages. Respondents agreed that leadership skills are important for doctors (n=186; 99%). Lack of time was indicated as a barrier to developing leadership skills (n=139; 75.5%). Audits and quality improvement projects were used for developing leadership skills. Colleagues were the main source of support.DiscussionSW trainees recognise the importance of developing leadership skills, underlining the need to prioritise opportunities for leadership development. Respondents had ideas to improve areas of practice, where ideas were supported, they were implemented.ConclusionCompared with national findings SW trainee experiences are positive, with more ideas implemented, more time for developing skills and more resources used. Activities engaged in closely aligned to the 70:20:10 model of leadership. Trainees should be encouraged to access support from peers and create networks of opportunity. Additional research in this area is needed.

Objectives: To find out medical students’ perceptions and attitudes toward medical leadership and management (MLM). Methods: A total of 336 medical students from the 2nd to 6th academic years from King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), were included in this cross-sectional study. This study was conducted in January-February 2020. The students were asked about their perceptions, attitudes, and interests in the leadership of medical care and clinicians. A four-part questionnaire was used for collecting data. SPSS-21 was used for analysis. Results: The participants included 172 (51.2%) males and 164 (48.8%) females. In total, 105 (31.3%) participants agreed that they had been very well educated about their perception, behavior, and interest in the field of medical leadership and clinic management, and 175 (52.1%) students agreed that clinicians should influence management decisions in a healthcare setting. Overall, 167 (49.7%) students agreed that management/leadership skills are important for clinicians. In total, 145 students (43.2%) desired to have more leadership training in medical school, and 129 (38.4%) students agreed to seek additional leadership/management training in their postgraduate research studies. When asked about their self-perception of good leadership skills, the students indicated that good leadership skills included integrity (47.9%), conflict resolution (46.7%), organization (44.4%), confidence (41.9%), communication (40.5%), self-reflection (40.2%), time management (33.6%), the ability to motivate others (36.9%), and the ability to keep calm under stress (33.3%). Conclusion: Many students were well aware of the MLM concepts. UK higher education, in partnership with UK industry, contributes positively to the training of managers and entrepreneurs from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the New Independent States and Russia. Since 1992, the University of Luton has delivered management training courses in CEE and the former Soviet Union (FSU), developing expertise to assist both UK companies and CEE/FSU managers to understand the different attitudes and experiences that will help to overcome potential partnership problems and encourage East-West industries to take full advantage of the increasing trading opportunities. This case study analyses the management training programmes, and details pre- and post-training insights.

The need for a mid-tier transit system and the opportunities created by 21st century transit technologies like Trackless Trams System (TTS) has been analysed in an earlier paper to show TTS could be a leapfrog solution for the future of sustainable urban development in developing cities. This paper outlines how the TTS can be created as a part of Transit Oriented Development (TOD). Informed by literature, this study identified four factors that are important for enabling transition towards TOD. Using three of these factors a framework for assessing and evaluating TOD is formulated. The study then applies the formulated framework to the potential corridors that could potentially enable a transition towards a successful TOD for Bulawayo and enable the TTS to be delivered in a partnership with urban land development. The findings do reveal that most of the station precincts that are closer to the CBD have a higher potential to enable transition to TOD. This could suggest that the TTS could be implemented in two phases, the first phase covering the high impact station precincts.

The Dentistry Course at UFPB was created in 1955. Although the course is recognized for its high-quality technical education in dentistry, through 2014, it has had no leadership and management subject, even though it is known that these skills are critical to the dentist. The aim of this research was therefore to evaluate the perceptions of knowledge about leadership and management of students in the fifth year of the UFPB dentistry course. Students answered a questionnaire and evaluated their current leadership skills on a scale from one (very poor) to five (excellent). On average, they rated themselves best on "Integrity" (4.42 points) and worst on "Advocacy skills" (2.38 points). The "ability to build others' trust" was the aspect considered most beneficial for an oral surgeon, representing 23.08% of responses, while "compassion" was the ability deemed least beneficial, with 34.62% of the responses. All students questioned agreed that it is important to create leadership and management subject in the UFPB dentistry course. Little knowledge of leadership and management has been demonstrated, as well as a great need for creating a leadership course at UFPB.

The article describes the experience of teaching coding in the curricula of schools in Ireland and the province of Ontario (Canada). The province of Ontario is a successful participant in the International Computer and Informational Literacy Study (ICILS); Ireland attaches particular importance to the possibility of developing 21st century skills in coding. The goals, objectives, structure of the content of the corresponding training courses and the planned learning outcomes are presented. The Canadian, Irish and Russian approaches to teaching coding at school are compared according to the following criteria: compulsory mastery, thematic blocks, software, subject results, skills of the XXI century, course duration. The advantages of the Russian informatics course and the possibility of using foreign experience in the construction of elective courses and/or extracurricular programs are described.

This chapter discussed TVET teacher education in Myanmar on the threshold of the 21st century; a qualitative analysis of the present state of the art. Recent status of Myanmar's TVET system was highlighted and the chapter strongly maintained that qualified and motivated teachers and instructors are key for effective learning and are as well at the heart of TVET quality. The chapter provided a comprehensive problem scenario with regard to TVET teacher training; to mention a few, that there is a low awareness for the relevance of TVET in general and with respect to its potential to develop a country's skilled and semi-skilled workers. In comparison to university degrees, graduating from training courses at vocational institutions is not perceived as a valuable career option. Lastly, this chapter attempts to add to the collection of vocational education and training research by consulting a case in Myanmar – a country which currently possesses only a sparse amount of data in this field.
