This study was carried out to investigate teachers’ perceived communication instructional skill for improving teaching in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The sample size of the study is 1,196 teachers. Multistage sampling technique was used in the selection of the sample size. The instrument used for data collection was the Teachers’ Perceived Communication Instructional Skills Questionnaire (TPCISQ). To ensure the reliability of the instrument, a trial test was conducted by administering 30 copies of the questionnaire to 30 public primary school teachers in Awka, Anambra State, which is outside the study area. Cronbach Alpha was used to determine the internal consistency of the items. Result of the analysis yielded an overall coefficients value of 0.87. The data collected in the study were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Based on the findings of the study, it was revealed that teachers need the following communication skills: listening to the pupils attentively when they ask questions; giving proper feedback to the questions raised by the pupils; repeating instructions orally or in writing and so on.

This study was carried out to identify the administrative role performances of headmasters of primary schools in Ebonyi state, southeast Nigeria. The study also identified the challenges faced the headmasters in performing their roles and strategies for handling these challenges. Three research questions were developed in line with the purpose of the study. Three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study is 1471 headmasters and 10,188 teachers, and the sample comprised 150 headmasters and 1000 primary school teachers from the area of study. This sample was drawn using multi-stage sampling technique. A–21 item instrument termed “Headmasters’ Administrative Role Performance Assessment Questionnaire” (HARPAQ) was used by the researcher for data collection. The instrument was first validated by experts and reliability was determined using Cronbach Alpha Statistics and the reliability got was 0.85. The administration and retrieval of instrument were through direct contact and use of research assistants with the respondents. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation for the research question while z-test statistics were used for testing the null hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that all the 21 items were accepted by the respondents. Findings on the hypotheses tested revealed that there was no significant difference in the mean responses of headmasters and primary school teachers from Ebonyi state on the items presented. Adequate funding, prudency and accountability in fund management, regular leadership training of headmasters, formation of formidable umbrella union for the headmasters to always interact with government on issues of school funding and management, involving the PTA and community in school management among others were recommended.

The paper examined the perception of student counsellors studying Guidance and Counselling in various Nigerian Universities on ethical codes which should guide and protect the counselling profession. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and two corresponding hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design, with a sample of 1,500 students, drawn from selected Nigerian universities using the multistage sampling technique. The instrument used to gather data for the study was a 50 item questionnaire constructed by the researcher. The psychometric properties were determined and found adequate for use. The test-re-test method was applied to determine reliability which yielded r = 0.88. Senior lecturers in the Department of Guidance and Counselling ascertained content and construct adequacy of the instrument. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and t-test to test the hypotheses. The study found out that respondents perceived counselling codes highly irrespective of their gender and religious beliefs although male respondents showed stronger agreement. It was therefore recommended that the Counselling Association of Nigeria should develop counselling ethical codes for professional counselling practice in Nigeria without considering any bias for gender and religion.

This paper examined the awareness of teachers of nursery and primary schools on the existence of the technological resources that could be used to support children's literacy instruction, as well as the use of such technological resources for enriching children's literacy instruction. The study was carried out in Awka Local Government Education Zone in Anambra State, Nigeria. Two (2) research questions guided the study. Five (500) nursery and primary school teachers were selected as the sample for the study using simple random sampling technique. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection which was analyzed using mean scores. The findings, among others, were that both the nursery and primary school teachers are able to identify the technological tools that could be used to enhance literacy instruction in children but are not aware of how such resources could be used. Suggestions for improvement were provided.

The finding revealed that all the community members perceive educating them as a welcome development that would help in breeding youth that is needed in an electoral process. Background of the study: The study aimed at examining perceptions of undergraduates on the contributions of online tools towards improvement of reading habit in Kwara state in universities. The study identified six (6) research questions. The research population was limited to undergraduates at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State University, Malate and Al-Hikmah University.Purpose: The study adopted descriptive survey design with questionnaire to collect data. The simple random sampling technique was adopted. The researcher used Educational and Psychological Measurement Israel model (2003) sample table to arrive at the actual sample size for this study. Therefore, the sample size for this study at level of ± 5% level of significance for population of 53, 130 students was 397. With total population of 76% for University of Ilorin, 18% for Kwara State University Malate and 6% for Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.Method: Data collected from the field were analyzed using descriptive method of analysis.Findings: The findings of the study revealed that blog, twitters, E-mail, websites, YouTube, Facebook is the most available online tools that improve undergraduates reading habit. The study also revealed that undergraduates using online tools for social purpose than others.Conclusion: The study concluded that undergraduates have good perception using online tools for their reading. The study also established that undergraduates using online tools for social, political, recreation and religion benefits. It is also established that distraction, fallout from technologies, financial constraints and poor power supply are the major setbacks to the use of online tools for reading.

This study examines technostress, its effects, and measures taken to avoid it among librarians at university libraries in Nigeria. The descriptive survey design was adopted and 5 (five) university libraries in Edo and Delta States were used for the study. The sample size for the study was 79, using the purposive sampling technique, a questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection, and simple percentage and Chi square were used to analyze the data collected. The authors found that technostress could be avoided by librarians, by taking the following measures: purchasing user friendly interface software, regular staff training on ICTs, and developing positive attitude toward technology, and so forth.

In learning new skills, it is necessary that students receive some information (feedback), that tells them if they are on the right track. The strategies, tactics or means through which teachers provide feedback to pupils after assessments are, however, a source of concern. Thus, this study aimed at assessing test feedback strategies/tactics adopted by primary school teachers in Anambra State, Nigeria. This study is a descriptive survey conducted in Anambra State, a south-eastern State in Nigeria. The sample of the study consisted of 500 teachers drawn from 1054 public primary schools in the state. The study tested two hypotheses and answered two research questions. The instrument used for collecting data is a researcher-developed questionnaire, titled “Test Feedback Strategy Assessment Questionnaire” (TFSAQ). Mean, standard deviation and t-test were adopted to analyze the data collected. The study revealed that teachers majorly gave feedbacks in writing or print form which included handwritten comments on students’ assessed work, written numeric scores, grades, averages or positions, etc. They also gave face-to-face feedbacks to whole classes, individual students and small groups of students. Most of the teachers did not use electronic feedbacks. The feedbacks were of fairly good quality. The school location and the level of a class taught had no significant influence on teachers’ responses. As a result of the findings, the researcher recommended among other things that teachers should be given more training especially on electronic feedback strategies as well as ways of improving the qualities of their test feedbacks.

Health practices are patterns of behavioural choices made by an individual from the alternatives that are available according to their socio-economic status. The UNDESA report gives the life expectancy for Nigerians to be below 54 years. We re-examine the 2015 UNDESA report vis-a-vis the health practices of the Elderly in Nigeria using Akwa Ibom State as reference. The study adopted descriptive survey design and using the multistage sampling technique purposively identify and included men and women aged 65 and above. A total of 24 local government areas were covered in this study and a sample size of 384 respondents were selected using the Bill Godden formula for infinite population. Data collected were analysed using the descriptive statistics The findings showed that 39 percent of the respondents were between 70-74 years. From the correlation matrix, there was a significant relationship between Nutrition and food intake and longevity. Improvement in the socio–economic status of the elderly by regular payment of their pension; as well as increased attention to their health by relevant individuals and groups among other measures that will further promote their longevity are strongly recommended.

This research investigated the causes of poor study habits of students as expressed by primary school teachers in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted for this research, and a multi-stage sampling technique procedure was employed to draw a total sample of 200 respondents that participated in the research. The results of the research revealed that the causes of poor study habits of students consisted of poor monitoring by parents, parental educational status and laziness. Moreover, the hypothesis testing conducted in this research stated that there was a significant difference in the causes of poor study habits of students as expressed by teachers based on gender. In addition, there was no significant difference in the causes of poor study habits of students as expressed by teachers based on work experience. Based on the findings of the research, the proposed recommendation is that counselors should be employed in all schools in the country and they should be equipped with supporting facilities to prove their full support and service.

This study was carried out to investigate the perceived assessment instructional skill needed by primary school teachers for improving teaching in Enugu State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. Descriptive survey design was used in the study. The population of the study consisted of 10, 415 public primary school teachers in Enugu State.  Sample size of the study was 1,196 teachers, comprising of 579 males and 617 female teachers. Multistage sampling technique was used in the selection of the sample size. Iinstrument used for data collection was ‘Perceived Assessment Instructional Skill Needed by Teachers Questionnaire (PAISNTQ). To determine the internal consistency of the instrument, Cronbach Alpha was usedand the result yielded 0.87. The data collected from questionnaire were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and T-test statistics. The results of the analysis revealed that assessment instructional skills teachers are: assessing the area of pupils’ needs through observation; finding out areas of weakness and strength in pupils by asking them questions; assigning homework, quiz and examination to pupils. Also, the results of the analysis revealed that there is no statistically significant difference in the mean rating of male and female teachers on the perceived assessment instructional skill needed by primary school teachers for improved teaching; and that there is no statistically significant difference in the mean rating of teachers in urban and rural public primary schools on the perceived assessment instructional skills needed by primary school teachers for improved teaching.  Based on the findings of the study, the researchers recommended, among others, that the assessment instructional skills discussed in this study should be integrated into the teacher education curriculum; and that primary school teachers should be constantly appraised in the area of assessment instructional skills.
