scholarly journals ASSESSMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE ROLE PERFORMANCES OF HEADMASTERS OF PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN EBONYI STATE SOUTH EAST, NIGERIA

This study was carried out to identify the administrative role performances of headmasters of primary schools in Ebonyi state, southeast Nigeria. The study also identified the challenges faced the headmasters in performing their roles and strategies for handling these challenges. Three research questions were developed in line with the purpose of the study. Three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study is 1471 headmasters and 10,188 teachers, and the sample comprised 150 headmasters and 1000 primary school teachers from the area of study. This sample was drawn using multi-stage sampling technique. A–21 item instrument termed “Headmasters’ Administrative Role Performance Assessment Questionnaire” (HARPAQ) was used by the researcher for data collection. The instrument was first validated by experts and reliability was determined using Cronbach Alpha Statistics and the reliability got was 0.85. The administration and retrieval of instrument were through direct contact and use of research assistants with the respondents. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation for the research question while z-test statistics were used for testing the null hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that all the 21 items were accepted by the respondents. Findings on the hypotheses tested revealed that there was no significant difference in the mean responses of headmasters and primary school teachers from Ebonyi state on the items presented. Adequate funding, prudency and accountability in fund management, regular leadership training of headmasters, formation of formidable umbrella union for the headmasters to always interact with government on issues of school funding and management, involving the PTA and community in school management among others were recommended.

This research investigated the causes of poor study habits of students as expressed by primary school teachers in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted for this research, and a multi-stage sampling technique procedure was employed to draw a total sample of 200 respondents that participated in the research. The results of the research revealed that the causes of poor study habits of students consisted of poor monitoring by parents, parental educational status and laziness. Moreover, the hypothesis testing conducted in this research stated that there was a significant difference in the causes of poor study habits of students as expressed by teachers based on gender. In addition, there was no significant difference in the causes of poor study habits of students as expressed by teachers based on work experience. Based on the findings of the research, the proposed recommendation is that counselors should be employed in all schools in the country and they should be equipped with supporting facilities to prove their full support and service.

Sustainable Development (SD) is a rich, challenging and thought-provoking construct in social sciences. The main purpose of this paper was to identify and explore the role played by primary school teachers in building up the idea of sustainable development (SD) among students. This paper was intended to identify that how a teacher can successfully execute the concept of SD by influencing students’ minds at the primary level. Quantitative survey technique were utilized for data collection. All the primary school teachers of Lahore division comprised the population of the study. Through multistage sampling technique, 352 primary school teachers were selected as participants of the study. A self-developed SD questionnaire incorporating four major factors (teachers’ awareness, pedagogy, curricular and co-curricular activities) with Cronbach’s alpha value = .93 was used to measure the role of teachers in building the sustainability concept among students at primary level. The results indicated a significant mean score difference among SD scores of teachers, sector wise (private and public). Furthermore, the results also reconnoitered the significant difference (p=.04) between the mean scores of female and male teachers in building up the SD concept in students’ minds.

Objective: Information is very important to have accurate understanding of people about the modes of HIV/AIDS transmission and its prevention strategies. Teachers at all levels are always expected to play a foremost role in the provision of information to promote awareness leading to behavioral change among students. Therefore, this article is aimed to evaluate the knowledge, awareness and perception about the deadly disease HIV/AIDS among primary school teachers in Bangladesh. Materials and methods: To do so, about 120 teachers from 28 primary schools, out of 68, in Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) areas were interviewed purposively for this study using a self-administered questionnaire. Results and discussion: The results showed that the teachers serving at primary schools level were not too sure of their own knowledge about the issue. They had much misperception about the knowledge of facts, modes of transmission to reduce contamination and the modes of transmission from one person to another of HIV/AIDS. Conclusion: Government should provide adequate funding to organize and sponsor teachers to attend in training workshops, seminars and conferences related to HIV/AIDS and that the pandemic should be discussed with other for the purpose of awareness. This study intends to explain whether or not emotional exhaustion and organisational commitment of Catholic primary school teachers in Merauke regency correlate prospectively. This study was guided by one research question: ‘Does the Catholic primary school teachers’ emotional exhaustion and organisational commitment correlate significantly negatively?’ To answer the research question, two survey questionnaires were disseminated to 157 teachers. Employing the SPSS programme version 21, the study shown a significant negative correlation among the surveyed research variables. The findings may be authoritative for the Catholic primary school leaders and the Chief of the Catholic Foundation for Education in Merauke regency, Indonesia, to take major efforts to eliminate emotional exhaustion of teachers in order to foster the organisational commitment of teachers at the Catholic primary schools to teaching the youth. This study was carried out to identify the strategies for the development of scientific skills and attitudes in physics education among secondary students in Ebonyi state, southeast Nigeria. One research question was developed in line with the purpose of the study. One null hypothesis was formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study is 2370 students and 87 teachers, and the sample comprised 600 students and 25 teachers of physics from the area of study. This sample was drawn using multi-stage sampling technique. An–11 item instrument termed "Science Skills and Attitudes in Physics Questionnaire" (SSAPQ) was used by the researcher for data collection. The instrument was first validated by experts and reliability was determined using Cronbach Alpha Statistics and the reliability got was 0.82. The administration and retrieval of instrument were through direct contact and use of research assistants with the respondents. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation for the research question while t-test statistics were used for testing the null hypothesis. The findings of the study revealed that 9 out of 11 items presented are the strategies for the development of scientific skills and attitudes in physics education among secondary students in Ebonyi state, southeast Nigeria. Findings on the hypothesis tested revealed that there was no significant difference in the mean responses of students and teachers of physics from Ebonyi state on the items presented. Holistic reformation of the physics curriculum to incorporate the strategies, appropriate training of teachers to ensure quality transmission of scientific knowledge, skills and attitudes and provision of needed laboratory facilities, books and other learning materials by the relevant stakeholders were recommended.

This research investigated the influence of single parenting on emotional development of primary school students as viewed by Nigerian primary school teachers. A descriptive survey designed was adopted to draw 200 primary school teachers. One research question was raised and three null hypotheses were respectively postulated to guide the research at 0.05 level of significance. In addition, data analysis was done using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Furthermore, the findings revealed that low self-esteem was the most influencing emotional development of primary school students in Ilorin metropolis. The findings also revealed that there was no significant difference in the influence of single parenting on the emotional development of primary school students in terms of gender and qualification. It is recommended that teachers of students from single parents should be more sensitive to their emotional needs and always be ready to assist them. Moreover, counsellors should collaborate with teachers and parents to minimize the negative influence of single parenting. Teachers are suggested to be more sensitive and willing to assist students whenever they have problems at home. Single parents are suggested to provide more quality time with their children to avoid them performing negative behaviors. Parents are suggested to maintain stable home by living together to enhance their children emotional development.

This paper examined the awareness of teachers of nursery and primary schools on the existence of the technological resources that could be used to support children's literacy instruction, as well as the use of such technological resources for enriching children's literacy instruction. The study was carried out in Awka Local Government Education Zone in Anambra State, Nigeria. Two (2) research questions guided the study. Five (500) nursery and primary school teachers were selected as the sample for the study using simple random sampling technique. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection which was analyzed using mean scores. The findings, among others, were that both the nursery and primary school teachers are able to identify the technological tools that could be used to enhance literacy instruction in children but are not aware of how such resources could be used. Suggestions for improvement were provided.

Due to pandemic effects all over the world, the sudden switch to distance education has doubtlessly affected primary schools more adversely in education. Concerning the pandemic period, this study aimed to examine primary school teachers' attitudes on distance education. More specifically, the survey study with 173 primary school teachers’ participation examined whether teachers' attitudes towards distance education have a meaningful difference in terms of gender, age, and teaching experience. The data which was collected via the “Attitude Scale on Distance Education” were analyzed through independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between gender and primary school teachers' attitudes towards distance education; however, there is a statistically significant difference according to age and teaching experience. In addition, primary school teachers' attitudes towards distance education were negative. The possible reasons for these results were discussed and some implications were presented for research, practice, and policymakers.

School phobia is when your child is nervous and refuses to go to school. It is also called school avoidance. A phobia is a strong fear of something for no obvious reason. The objectives of the study were: To assess the pre-test knowledge regarding school phobia among primary school teachers at selected primary schools of Gujarat state. To assess the post-test knowledge regarding school phobia among primary school teachers at selected primary schools of Gujarat state. To nd out the association between the levels of knowledge regarding school phobia with selected demographic variables. Total 60 samples were selected from the selected primary schools of Gujarat state through Non- Probability Convenient Sampling Technique. The pre-test mean score was 11.82 and post-test score was 14.22. Researcher found the association with demographic variables i.e., Gender, educational status, Economic status, Year of experience and working period.

Purpose of the study: This study was designed to explore the knowledge, attitude, and practices of teachers toward ADHD students. The objectives of the study were to document the knowledge, attitude, and practices of the teachers regarding ADHD, to find out the difference between knowledge attitude and practices among different strata of teachers, and to find out the effect of age, experience, and qualification on knowledge, attitude, and practices of teachers towards ADHD. Methodology: Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 600 primary school teachers from 2469 primary school teachers of district Haripur. This instrument contained 29 statements. This scale has three dimensions. Knowledge (statements 1-17), Attitude (statements18-35), and Practices (statements 36-52). The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient for the questionnaire was 0.76 which was got through the pilot study conducted on sixty teachers. Main findings: The results indicate that overall practices of teachers are the highest in comparison to Knowledge and Attitude. There was no significant difference between knowledge, practices, and attitudes about ADHD between different strata i-e Urban and Rural area primary teachers, Male and Female primary teachers, and public and Private primary teachers. Furthermore, experience, Age, and Qualification have a profound influence on primary teachers’ knowledge regarding ADHD. Teachers’ Qualification has a profound influence over primary teacher’s Attitude towards students with ADHD. Thus, qualification has a profound influence over primary teacher’s practices towards students with ADHD. Applications of the study: This study is applicable in the field of primary education where the teachers are assessed to find out their knowledge, attitude, and practices towards ADHD students. Novelty originality of this study: Much of the research is conducted in mainstream education but this research specifically explores the knowledge, attitude of teachers towards ADHD students. Therefore, this research is a torchbearer in this particular area of education.
