<p><strong>BACKGROUND &amp; OBJECTIVE: </strong>Imbalance between oxidative stress and saliva antioxidants plays a major role in initiation and spread of dental caries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of saliva in dental caries.</p><p><strong>METHODS: </strong>In this case-control study which employed high school students (14-18 years), the un-stimulated saliva samples of 60 students without dental caries (control group) and 60 students with dental caries (with at least 5 teeth levels of dental caries) were gathered. Each group comprised of males (half of cases) and females (half of cases). TAC of saliva was measured by Zellbio® (Netherlands) in terms of micmol/L. The data were analyzed using the SPSS software (ver. 17.0) and t-test with considering significance level at 0.05.</p><p><strong>RESULTS</strong><strong>:</strong> TAC of saliva was significantly lower in cases with dental caries (0.256±0.106) compared to those without dental caries (0.396±0.077); P&lt; 0.001. There was no statistically significant difference of TAC of saliva between males (0.319±0.119) and females (0.333±0.113) irrespective of dental caries (P=0.507).</p><p><strong>CONCLUSION: </strong>The results of the study indicated that there was a reverse association between dental caries and TAC of saliva.</p>

This study aims to investigate the effect of portfolio assessment in teaching physics and scientific attitude. The research was conducted on students of high school in Singaraja. Research was an quasi- experimental study by using “The Posttest-Only Control Group Design”. The research involved 152 high school students of class X of science as samples, taken with multistage random sampling technique. Portfolio assessment was integrated with physics learning. The implementation of the portfolio assessment included four key elements such as the students' work folders, clear assessment criteria, and self-assessment, and conference between teacher and students. The data needed in this research was the students' scientific attitude which included the aspect of curiosity, respect for evidence, the willingness to change ideas, and critical reflection. Data needed in this research included scientific attitudes students. A Likert scale instrument was used to measure the scientific attitude students. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance with SPSS 20.0 at significance level α = 0.05. The results showed there are differences in the scientific attitude students who take physics learning with assessment portfolios and students who take physics learning with assessment of conventional. The findings of this study indicate that portfolio assessment in learning physics significantly affect the scientific attitude students.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of learning Arabic in improving learning outcomes by using Al-Thariqah Al-Intiqaiyyah in tenth class of science major at Islamic Senior High School 3 Jombang. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group pre-test post-test design. The population in this study were all tenth classes of science major at Islamic Senior High School 3 Jombang while the sample was tenth class of science major 8 as a control class and tenth class of science major 6 as an experimental class. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially.  From the test data, it can be seen that the average outcomes of the experimental class and the control class has increased. The average pre-test score of the control class was 55.25 and the average post-test score was 79.25 while the average pre-test score of the experimental class was 55.25 and the average post-test score was 87. Based on the results of the SPSS 16.0 analysis, sig values were obtained. (2-tailed) of the experimental class and the control class post-test was 0.00 which means less than 0.05. So it can be concluded that H1 is accepted then there is a significant difference between the experimental class post-test and the control class post-test. H1 acceptance proves that Al-Thariqah Al-Intiqaiyyah was effective in improving Arabic learning outcomes in tenth class of science major at Islamic Senior High School 3 Jombang.

The purpose of this study was to implement the tactical approach in developing junior high school students’ understanding and games performance in football. The method used in this research was experimental method with pre-test post-test control group design. The research involved two groups, including experimental group with tactical approach intervention and a group with technical approach intervention for developing understanding and skills in playing football of junior high school students. Two instruments were used in this study, namely (1) cognition instrument, multiple choice type, with C1 to C3 difficulty levels to measure students’ understanding in football games learning and (2) Game Performance Assessment Instrumen (GPAI) for measuring football games performance. The reseach involved junior high school students in Bandung. The data collected were analysed by using one-way MANOVA to see the relationship between the groups related to the development of uderstanding and enjoyment. The result of the analysis showed that the t value of understanding variable was -1.64 and significant at the level 0,05 (0,05≤ 0,05) with mean differences -1.32. It showed that there was a significant difference between the tactical and technical group in understanding aspect. Meanwhile, in football games performancevariable, the t value was -5.71 and significant at the level 0,00 (0,00 ≤ 0,05) with mean difference -3.97. It showed that there was a significant difference between the tactical and technical group in football playing skills. According to the result of analysis, it concludes that (1) The implementation of the tactical approach had an effect on students’ understanding in football games learning, (2) The implementation of tactical approach had an effect on games performance of the students in football games learning. AbstrakTujuan utama penelitian ini adalah mengimplementasikan pendekatan taktis terhadap pengembangan pemahaman dan keterampilan bermain sepak bola siswa SMP. Metode yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen dengan rancangan pretest posttest control group design. Melibatkan  dua kelompok, yaitu satu kelompok eksperimen dengan intervensi pendekatan taktis dan satu kelompok dengan intervensi pendekatan teknis (tradisional) terhadap pengembangan  pemahaman  dan keterampilan bermain sepakbola siswa SMP. Terdapat dua instrument yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu (1) instrument kognisi jenis multiple choise pada tingkat kesukaran C1 sampai dengan C3 yang akan digunakan untuk mengukur pemahaman siswa dalam permbelajaran bermain sepak bola, (2) instrument tes keterampilan bermain sepakbola dengan menggunakan Game Permomance Assessment Instrumen (GPAI). Penelitian akan dilakukan pada siswa-siswi SMP dilingkungan kota Bandung. Semua data yang diperoleh akan analisis dengan menggunakan teknik manova satu jalur yang bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh antar kelompok baik pada pengembangan pemahaman dan kesenangan secara bersama-sama maupun masing-masing variabel. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa pada variable pemahaman diperoleh nilai t sebesar -1.64 dan signifikan pada 0,05 (0,05 ≤ 0,05) dengan mean difference sebesar -1.32. Hal tersebut menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok taktis dan teknis terhadap pemahaman Sedangkan pada variable keterampilan bermain sepak bola diperoleh nilai t sebesar -5.71 dan signifikan pada 0,00 (0,00 ≤ 0,05) dengan mean difference sebesar -3.97. Hal tersebut menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok taktis dan teknis terhadap keterampilan bermain sepak bola. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa (1) Implementasi pendekatan taktis memberikan pengaruh terhadap pemahaman siswa dalam pembalajaran sepak bola, (2) Implementasi pendekatan taktis memberikan pengaruh terhadap keterampilan dasar bermain sepak bola siswa dalam pembalajaran sepak bola.

The aim of this research is to know the influence of field trip on scientific literacy and attitude towards science of senior high school students before and after the field trip implemetation in ecosystem learning. The research was conducted in SMAN I Pangalengan. The method which was used in this research is Quasi Experimental with Nonequivalent Control Group Design as the design. The result shows that there are significant difference in scientific literacy between the control class where discussion was applied and the experimental class where field trip was applied, with t = 0.003 and α = 0.05. The result also shows that there is a significant attitude between the control and experimental class, with t = 0.003 and α = 0.05. Those results show that field trip gives significant effect on high school student's scientific literacy and attitude towards science in ecosystem concept.

The aim of this research was to determine the profile of learning, the learning process and the effectiveness of the application of quantum writing model based of interpersonal intelligence in teaching high school students write articles on subjects Talenta Bandung High School. The reseach design used is Nonequivalen (pretest-posttest) Control Group Design, which is a quasi-experimental research using all subjects in the study group (intac group) for treatment, instead of using subjects drawn randomly. Data collection instruments used were a matter of a test to measure the ability to write articles and guides observation and interviews. Analysis data technique used was Statistic Descrivtif, t test (paired-sample t-test) and independent sample t-test using SPSS version 22. The results showed that the learning profile is still using the curriculum KTSP, while directing students to the learning process easier to develop ideas into writing through the application of quantum writing model based of interpersonal intelligence. Hypothesis test results mean gain score on the test t-table  is 0, 001 is smaller than the real level of testing (α) of 0.05, which means that Ho refused and Ha is received, there is a significant difference between the results of the experimental class learning with learning outcomes in control class. This shows that the quantum writing model of based interpersonal intelligence can improve students' ability to write articles in Indonesian subjects in Talenta Bandung high school.

<p class="Default"><em>This study compared effectiveness of two types of instruction on Taiwanese EFL senior high school students’ oral production of derived words: communicative versus explicit. Participants included three intact classes of twelfth graders in a private senior high school. One class received explicit instruction, another communicative instruction. The third class received conventional instruction and served as the control group. Three groups received one 25-minute lesson on oral production of English derived words per week for a total of six weeks. Instruments included oral derived words tasks in isolation and in sentential context, and two versions of the treatment questionnaire. Results show that both Explicit and Communicative Groups significantly outperformed Control Group in the posttest of oral production of derived words in isolation, with neutral suffixes, with nominals, and at levels 5-6. Communicative Group also significantly surpassed Control Group in the derived words with non-neutral suffixes and beyond level 6. However, there was no significant difference among three groups in </em><em>oral production of English derived words</em><em> in sentential context, with adjectives, and at levels 3-4. Based on the results of this study, language instructors are suggested to first explicitly teach learners how to orally produce English derived words and then use communicative activities to enhance learners’ interest and motivation. Future studies are recommended to compare effects of explicit and communicative instruction on learners with varying proficiency levels and/or with longer periods of practice or exposure. </em></p>

Among the factors identified to be responsible for the poor performance of senior high school students in biology is inappropriate instructional media. This study investigated the effects of plastic relief sculpture on senior high school students’ performance in biology practical activity in Ogbomoso, South Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. Moreover, it also observed gender as the moderating effect in this study. The population of this quasi-experimental study was the all senior high school biology students in Oyo State. Two intact classes of 120 biology students were randomly sampled for the study. Two instruments were used in this study i.e. Students’ Biology Practical Test and Biology Practical Lesson Notes. The findings of this study revealed that there was significant difference existed between the performance of students in the experimental and control group (F (8, 51) = 1.89, p < 0.05). Meanwhile, female students performed insignificantly different compared with male students (t (118) = 7.16, p = 0.12). Therefore, the study concluded that plastic instructional relief sculpture is effective in improving students’ performance in biology. Thus, it is recommended that teachers should adopt plastic relief sculpture as the innovative instructional resource in teaching biology.

Abstrak: Self-efficacy matematis siswa penting, maka perlu ada upaya untuk meningkatkannya. Penelitian ini menerapkan model pembelajaran generatif (MPG) sebagai alternatif pembelajaran yang diperkirakan akan memicu peningkatan kemampuan tersebut. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui seberapa besar kontribusi penerapan MPG terhadap peningkatan self-efficacy baik level sekolah (tinggi, sedang dan rendah), KAM (atas, sedang rendah). Penelitian menerapkan desain kuasi eksperimen. Sampel pada penelitian ini terdiri atas 191 orang siswa kelas VIII pada tiga SMP Negeri di Kota Yogyakarta masing-masing mewakili sekolah level tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Hipotesis penelitian diuji pada taraf signifikansi 5%, analisis data yang digunakan uji Mann Whitney dan ANAVA dua jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) ada perbedaan pencapaian, peningkatan selfefficacy matematis siswa antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas control; dan (2) tidak terdapat interaksi antara pembelajaran dan level sekolah terhadap peningkatan self-efficacy matematis siswa. Kata Kunci: self-efficacy matematis, pembelajaran generatif THE ENHANCEMENT OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ SELF-EFFICACY THROUGH GENERATIVE LEARNING Abstract: The students’ mathematics self-efficacy is important. So, there must be an effort to enhance it. This study implemented the generative learning model as an instructional alternative expected to be able to enhance students’ self-efficacy. This study was aimed to find out the contribution on the enhancement of the students’ self-efficacy. This study employed the quasi experiment design. The sample consisted of 191 grade eight students from three state junior high schools in Yogyakarta Municipality, each representing high-level schools, medium-level schools, and low-level schools. The hypothesis was tested at the significance level of 5%. The data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney and two-way ANOVA analyses. The findings showed that (1) there was a significant difference in the students’ self-efficacy between the experimental group and the control group; (2) there was no interaction between instruction and school levels on the enhancement of the students’ self-efficacy. A major source of sexual learning is sex education classes in school (Levy 1992). In the absence of effective sex education, the immature adolescent must make major decisions without adequate knowledge (Bjorklund 1998). This descriptive survey correlation method of research was undertaken to come up with findings on attitude towards sex of Villaba National High School students. It was also its purpose that this study may be instrumental in the proper guidance of the said students particularly in the area of adolescent sexuality. Simple frequency counts were used to determine their Attitude towardss the various aspects of sexual relationships and average scores determined their Attitude towards the ten aspects of sexual relationships. Z-test was used to test the null hypothesis which states that, “there is no significant difference between the attitudes of boys and girls on the ten aspects of sexual relationships,” at the significance level of 0.05. This research finally concluded that there are differences between the attitudes of boys and girls towards the various aspects of sexual relationships particularly on courtship, petting, pre-marital sex, and trial marriage or live-in. Z-test established a significant difference between the attitudes of boys and girls on the ten aspects of sexual relationships. Keywords - attitude towards sex, sex education, instruction and guidance, adolescent sexuality, sexual relationships.

Purpose of this study was to test a model of cooperative team assisted individualizd (TAI) in terms of the initial capabilities junior high school students. The subjects were students of class VII SMP Negeri Sekampung Lampung Province. This study is a quasi-experimental study(quasi-experimental)design Non-Equivalent Control GroupDesign.Learning achievement assessment instruments using essay test. The result of such assessment data is analyzed usingt-test with SPSS16.0 for Windows.The results showed no significant difference model of cooperative team assisted individualizd (TAI) and conventional models in terms of the ability of junior high school students beginning in the implementation of learning strategies IPS. Based on the difference between pretest and post-test showed that the average value gainscore experimental class (45.63) was higher than in the control group (30.02). The results of analysis of test data using independent sample t test showed that the model of cooperative team assisted individualizd (TAI) obtainedvalue probability(p-level) of less than 0.05 is the sig 0.00.
