AbstractPsychodynamic theory and practice has evolved from its psychoanalytic roots. The modern psychodynamic approach is among the most inclusive and versatile schools of thought available to therapists. With both cross-cultural application and a growing evidence base, psychodynamic therapy is practiced in many countries and cultures around the world. The dynamic approach is a system that touches on human development, personality, mental disorders, and of course, therapy. This article presents an overview of contemporary dynamic theory, its underlying philosophy, and its main objectives.

<p>In an increasingly globalized world, web site localization has rapidly become an important form of cross-cultural and multimodal translation. The current pandemic has poignantly demonstrated how crucial multilingual web sites are to all aspects of life – from healthcare to education, from business to sport. The localization of football clubs’ web sites, however, has received very little attention in terms of academic research. As any other brands with local and global markets, football clubs rely on multilingual and multimodal communications to reach wider audience and increase their profile as well as their revenue. Most of the internet users in the world are non-native English speakers. The relevance of this data also applies to the most popular game in the world, football, and ought to be taken into serious consideration by football clubs in shaping their profile and priorities in terms of identity and outreach. The aim of this interdisciplinary thesis – one of the first academic studies worldwide devoted to the theory and practice of football club web site localization, especially in the context of Iran, where interest in national and international football is constantly growing – was thus to investigate how accurate and cross-culturally appropriate the translation of leading football clubs’ web site content actually is. This research project was conceptualized and conducted as a mixed-method case study to generate and combine quantitative and qualitative data in order to analyse and assess the translation and intercultural communication strategies adopted by some of the top football to produce multilingual web site content. Gathered data has been used to establish a set of theoretical principles and practical guidelines to help not only web site localizers and translation scholars but also media consultants and marketing analysts acquire a deeper understanding of how crucial translation quality and cross-cultural competence are – all the more so when localizing into a such a unique language as culture that is far-removed from the source language and culture. The theoretical and practical rubric I have devised has then been tested by translating into Persian selected pages from the web site of Football Club Internazionale Milano, one of the most international (as its name attests) and globally-minded as well as successful football clubs in the world. The findings of this study demonstrate that football clubs ought to consider linguistic and cultural accuracy, alongside up-to-date technology and appealing content, as key factors in achieving not only effective communication but also short-term and long-term success on and off the field.</p>

Social scientists have devoted much attention to explaining individual and contextual variation in religiosity. Among other things, research suggests that authoritarianism is reliably associated with greater religiosity, whereas education and human development are associated with less religiosity. In this study, we explore the possibility that the relationship between authoritarianism and various indices of religiosity may be stronger in the presence of greater educational attainment and living in a society with a higher level of human development, even though the latter two variables are often thought to reduce religiosity: Using two large cross-cultural datasets from the World Values Survey, we find evidence that authoritarianism is more strongly associated with religious involvement and practice among individuals at higher levels of education and individuals living in societies with higher level of human development. In doing so, we demonstrate that the connection between authoritarianism and religiosity is contingent on both individual-level and societal moderators.

Este trabalho tem por objetivo discutir algumas concepções filosóficas e educacionais da Sofística,especialmente de Protágoras e Górgias, evidenciando como esses filósofos entendiam a relação entre teoria e prática a fim de propiciar uma reflexão sobre a forma como se encara estes doispólos que compõem a formação humana atualmente. O método empregado para a realização de tal intento consiste na revisão bibliográfica, no qual os resultados são obtidos da interpretação de conteúdos e da comparação entre significados explícitos ou latentes. Os resultados evidenciamque os Sofistas propuseram uma nova maneira de pensar o mundo por intermédio da práxis realizando assim a junção entre teoria e prática. Tal transposição do dualismo entre teoria e prática faz concluir que se deve utilizar a teoria como recurso para exercer o pensamento reflexivo e elementos para criar novas ações baseadas na experiência que se vivencia para lidar com um mundo em mudança.Descritores: Aprendizagem; Educação; Filosofia.This work aims to discuss some philosophical and educational conceptions of Sophistic, especially Protagoras and Gorgias, showing how these philosophers understood the relationship between theory and practice in order to provide a reflection on how one sees these two poles that make upthe human development currently. The method employed for the realization of such intent is the literature review, which the conclusions are obtained through the content and interpretation of the comparison between explicit or latent meanings. Results show that the Sophists have proposed a new way of thinking about the world through praxis thus realizing the junction between Theory and Practice. Las investigaciones indican que los sofistas han propuesto una nueva forma de pensar el mundo por la praxis, de esta manera lograr la unión entre teoría y práctica. La transposición del dualismo nos lleva a concluir que se debe utilizar la teoría como un recurso para que ejerzamos nuestro pensamiento reflexivo y para crearnuevas acciones basadas en la experiencia que se estea viviendo para hacer frente a un cambiantemundo.Descriptores: Aprendizaje; Educación; Filosofía.

This study asks, “How does democratic governance and economic development differ when founded on Eastern, Buddhist principles, rather than dominant Western, liberal, and Enlightenment values and beliefs?” The small, remote country of Bhutan, the only democratic, market-based state in the world rooted constitutionally and culturally in Mahayana Buddhist principles and ethics, provides a heuristic case study for comparing two distinct approaches to democracy and development. Because the two approaches—Eastern and Western—are based on distinctive philosophical traditions that differ on important, first-order principles, comparison can bring to light new questions, frames of inquiry, and alternative approaches to contemporary democratic theory and practice and broaden our conceptualization of, and policies directed toward, human development.

AbstractThe thesis that ‘Asian’ cultures oppose the ‘Western’ emphasis on emancipative values and liberal democracy has mostly been criticized for its political instrumentality. By contrast, the empirical claim about most Asians’ dismissal of emancipative values and liberal democracy has not been tested on a broadly cross-cultural basis. Filling this gap, this article uses data from the World Values Surveys to put the values of Asian populations into global perspective. As a result, the differences between Asian and Western populations over emancipative values and liberal democracy appear to be gradual, not categorical. What is more, the forces of modernization that gave rise to emancipative values and a liberal notion of democracy in the ‘West’, are doing the same in the ‘East’, confirming a universal model of human development rather than Asian exceptionalism, or any other form of cultural exceptionalism.
