The study is to compare the level of comprehensive physical fitness of accepted candidates to the Wrocław military university in 2015 and in 2019 depending on the type of high school completed. The research material was collected from the motor tests conducted during the recruitment process to the Wrocław military university. The study included measurements of endurance, relative strength, running speed and agility, and swimming skills. The level of all analyzed functional traits of candidates admitted to the university in 2015 is statistically significantly higher compared to men accepted to the university in 2019. The type of secondary school completed does not significantly differentiate the level of comprehensive physical fitness of candidates to the Wrocław military university, both in 2015 and 2019. The type of secondary school completed does not significantly differentiate the level of all-round physical fitness of applicants to the Wrocław military university, either in 2015 or 2019.

Dr. John H. Minnick was elected President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics at the annual meeting at Atlantic City. Dr. Minnick has been unusually active in secondary school mathematics. He is now engaged in training high school teachers in mathematics in the University of Pennsylvania. Many readers will recall Dr. Minnick’s Tests of Abilities in Geometry, a scientific monograph on the nature of the abilities which are involved in proving a proposition in geometry.

Abstract The aim of this study was to verify the effects of programmed and self-selected physical activities on the physical fitness of adolescents. High school adolescents, aged between 15 and 17 years, were divided into two experimental groups: a) a self-selected physical activity group (PAS) with 55 students (aged 15.7 ± 0.7 years), who performed physical activities with self-selected rhythm at the following sports: basketball, volleyball, handball, futsal and swimming; and b) a physical fitness training group (PFT) with 53 students (aged 16.0 ± 0.7 years), who performed programmed physical fitness exercises. Both types of activity were developed during 60 min classes. To assess physical fitness the PROESP-BR protocol was used. The statistical analysis was performed by repeated measures ANOVA. The measurements of pre and post-tests showed significantly different values after PFT in: 9 minute running test, medicine ball throw, horizontal jump, abdominal endurance, running speed and flexibility. After PAS differences were detected in abdominal endurance, agility, running speed and flexibility. The intervention with programmed physical activity promoted more changes in the physical abilities; however, in the self-selected program, agility was improved probably because of the practice of sports. Therefore, physical education teachers can use PFT to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and power of lower and upper limbs and PAS to improve agility of high school adolescents.

The Ivorian idiosyncrasy on the market of the French speaking universities in the south of Sahara is characterized by the overabundance of students. That is why we try to understand how corporate advertising contributes to the popularization of the practices of the student “clientele” recruitment process at the university Félix Houphouet-Boigny of Cocody. This work is essentially qualitative with the use of the direct observation technics and the semi-directive interviews with 20 university staffs of student recruitment process. It emerges from it that, on the one hand, the corporate advertising strategies during that operation of recruitment appear in three relation systems: the connections banking on the informal communication through affinities (kinship, friendship), the relations of transactions based on the communication of closeness and the relation of control centered on marketing approach. On the other hand, these strategies establish partly real irregularity sources due to the pouring of thousands (parallel recruitment) of the high school diploma new holders in that public university without taking into account their secondary school performances and the accommodation capacity. This results in the overabundance of students and the worsening of the education quality.

In this work we intend to share an educational path on mathematical games developed in the last classes of the high schools that participate to the research-project Mathematical High School Project, a project elaborated by the research group in mathematics education of the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno (Italy) and dedicated to scientific high school students. The "Historical path in mathematical games" is a didactic laboratory activity dedicated to students of the last year of scientific high schools. The researchers collaborated with the teachers of the schools and carried out an interdisciplinary path on puzzles and logic games invented or reworked by important mathematicians of the last two centuries. Through these themes that were scientific, historical, artistic, musical, literary ones, connections have been created thank to the presentation of texts, images, paintings, drawings, musical and literary pieces.

The aim of this study was to explore the anthropometric profile and evaluate physical fitness variables of the members of the Chile women’s national football team based on their playing positions. Fifty football players participated in this study, which was carried out during the period of training for the France 2019 Women’s World Cup and the Japan 2020 Olympic Games. Body composition and physical condition (muscular strength, sprint, agility, and aerobic fitness) were assessed. The goalkeepers showed greater weight (p < 0.001), height (p = 0.002), and %Fat (p = 0.010) compared to the rest of the playing positions. There were also differences between positions in relative strength (RS) (p = 0.001), running speed at 10 and 30 m (T10 and T30, respectively), agility (AGI) (p < 0.001), and yo-yo test (MYYR1) (p < 0.001). RS, T10, T30, and countermovement jump (CMJ) were significantly correlated (p ≤ 0.05) with anthropometric variables (p ≤ 0.05). MYYR1 was also significantly correlated with anthropometric variables (p ≤ 0.05). In conclusion, goalkeepers show greater weight and height, as well as worse results in MYYR1, AGI, T10, T30, and RS compared to the rest of the players. Forwards present better performance in running speed and agility. Better performance in physical condition is associated with better body composition values (greater muscle mass and lower fat mass). Greater relative strength indicates greater performance in explosive actions. Therefore, to meet the demands of high competition, it is important to establish ideal profiles in anthropometry and physical condition variables based on the playing position.

We examined the characteristics of the respondents before entering higher education along with the clusters. We have discovered the characteristics of secondary school studies and further education, the circumstances for applying for higher education. During the analysis of secondary school studies, we took into account the type of class they studied in high school (in Hungary, they can study in high school, vocational high school, and secondary school), and how many times they changed school. In addition, we compared the results based on school maintainers. There is a significant correlation between the reasons for high-school experience and the dropout rate. In terms of cluster-based differences, it should be emphasized that the expectation of social mobility was overrepresented among the dropouts due to financial reasons and work, but it was also an important aspect that they did not have to pay a fee in the program where they studied. In addition, in the case of those who were disappointed in training and further education, it was most common to apply to the university because they did not want to work and could afford it. Our results can help to develop more effective dropout protection for students entering higher education, both in public and higher education institutions and career orientation.

Recently the university students are required by their institutions to have the TOEFL score in the fisrt year or in the last year of their study before graduation. Some other higher institutions require their students to submit TOEIC, not TOEFL, before graduation. Companies, in the recruitment process, require the applicants to submit TOEFL score to show their level of English proficiency. The first question is which one is more appropriate for job applicants in the compay: TOEFL  or TOEIC. Another question for university students before graduation is whether to have TOEFL  in the first year or in the last year before graduation. This article aims at answering the two questions raised. The first part will give an overview of various versions of TOEFL  and  TOEIC  and the second part proposes the appropriate English proficiency test  for the recruitment process for new employees and for the university graduates, that is, TOEIC for the company  and TOEFL  for universities  and  colleges.
