The work values and professional expectations of the second cohort of Generation Z

Introduction: The people born since the year 2000 (Generation Z) are now dynamically entering the labour market. This presents a range of challenges for employers, such as how to make their workplace attractive to young employees, how to entice talent and above all, how to retain it for longer. The aim of the following work was to identify the primary work values and professional expectations of representatives from Generation Z. Method: The study included 236 final-year students (129 girls and 107 boys) from vocational and comprehensive schools. The most highly-rated work values were identified using the “Moja Kariera” (My Career) questionnaire by Schein (adapted by Paszkowska-Rogacz) together with a free interview, providing a deeper insight into the work values and professional expectations of the group. Results: The predominant values expressed by the study group were associated with security and stability, as well as lifestyle; however, the main expectations regarding the employer comprised a high salary, clear working conditions and clearly-defined professional responsibilities. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that the members of Generation Z regard an attractive employer as one whose organisation cares about work-life balance, ensures secure employment, based on a contract of employment (e.g. on a permanent basis) and stable (constant) earnings.

AbstractIntroductionAn overview of the requirements for the head of a surgical department in Germany should be given.Materials and methodsA retrospective literature research on surgical professional policy publications of the last 10 years in Germany was conducted.ResultsSurveys show that commercial influences on medical decisions in German hospitals have today become an everyday, predominantly negative, actuality. Nevertheless, in one survey, 82.9% of surgical chief physicians reported being very satisfied with their profession, compared with 61.5% of senior physicians and only 43.4% of hospital specialists. Here, the chief physician is challenged. Only 70% of those surveyed stated that they could rely on their direct superiors when difficulties arose at work, and only 34.1% regarded feedback on the quality of their work as sufficient. The high distress rate in surgery (58.2% for all respondents) has led to a lack in desirability and is reflected in a shortage of qualified applicants for resident positions. In various position papers, surgical residents (only 35% describe their working conditions as good) demand improved working conditions. Chief physicians are being asked to facilitate a suitable work-life balance with regular working hours and a corporate culture with participative management and collegial cooperation. Appreciation of employee performance must also be expressed. An essential factor contributing to dissatisfaction is that residents fill a large part of their daily working hours with non-physician tasks. In surveys, 70% of respondents stated that they spend up to ≥3 h a day on documentation and secretarial work.DiscussionThe chief physician is expected to relieve his medical staff by employing non-physician assistants to take care of non-physician tasks. Transparent and clearly structured training to achieve specialist status is essential. It has been shown that a balanced work-life balance can be achieved for surgeons. Family and career can be reconciled in appropriately organized departments by making use of part-time and shift models that exclude 24-h shifts and making working hours more flexible.


The study explores the adversities faced by wompreneurs (Women Entrepreneurs) of Odisha and talks about their work-life balance issues. The paper presents the viewpoint (motivation) of wompreneurs as to why they think of starting an enterprise of their own. Focus is also laid onthe supportive factors of wompreneurs and factors that disrupt maintaining their work-life balance.The present exploratory paper is the outcome of a pilot study that has been performed using thematic investigation & analysis to find out solutions for the above-mentioned issues. For this paper, Qualitative research is used, which is conducted by assimilating data from personal interviews and thematically analyzing it. Suggestions for better work-life balance are given at the end. The area of work-life balance is devoid of studies in India, where wompreneurs are expected to have a better work-life balance as they are their own “boss”, the paper tries to explore the authenticity of such assumptions. The model has been devised with the above research objectives to provide insight into motivating factors and work-life balance issues of wompreneurs, which can help the Government, policy-makers, research fraternity and other training counselling institutions to emphasize such emerging issues that would lead to empowered women as well as an empowered Nation. Fish remains from Late Iron Age sites in the Transvaal are relatively scarce. It seems as if the people did not utilize the riverine resources extensively. Therefore the unique assemblage of large numbers of fish bones on a Late Iron Age site, provides some insight into the fish population of a section of the Letaba River a few hundred years ago. The presence of other faunal remains provides some information on prehistoric utilization of the environment in general. Hunting strategies and aspects of herding can also be deduced from the faunal remains.

Introduction: The imbalance between technological development and ideological strengthening has resulted in the fading of the Pancasila ideological values of millennials. Technology that accompanies everyday life seems to be the main character in human life. Yet if humans themselves do not use technology wisely, technology can be a threat to both individuals and the life of the nation and state. If technology is increasingly out of control, threats to the Pancasila ideology are very likely to occur, such as in the G 30S PKI incident. Therefore, it is necessary to take action both from the government and the community as individuals to safeguard the development of technology to be used wisely. That way, we can prevent the threat to the Pancasila ideology together. Writing this article aims to analyze how the role and influence of the Pancasila ideology on the millennial generation in the 4.0 industrial revolution and to find solutions so that the values of Pancasila remain attached to the next generation of the Indonesian nation. Method: Writing This article uses a qualitative method by using literature reviews from the results of related research journals that have been published online through websites and other online media. Results: Thirteen journals and one book have met the criteria for the inclusion of a predetermined review. Research is based on the stigma of society regarding technological developments in the Industrial revolution 4.0. Therefore, the government is expected to be more severe in implementing human capital management. Conclusion: By procuring human capital management, it will be possible that Human Resources (HR) in Indonesia will be able to carry out the ideals of a golden Indonesian generation with Pancasila values inherent in the hearts of the people and the nation's future generations.

Abstract. Social work in prisons not only works with and for people who are confined; it also constitutes a form of social work that is carried out under conditions of confinement. This article draws on carceral geography to understand the corporeal and spatial aspects of social work in prison settings. Based on insights from two prisons in Switzerland, we argue that understanding carceral social work as a spatial and materially situated practice helps to gain deep insight into the intricate layers of meaning and powerful modes of functioning of prisons and of the people involved. In particular, it shows how the way social work is carried out in prison is supported and strongly structured by the spatiality of the prison itself, allowing for counselling, desk-type social work, rather than for social work that actively initiates and creates spaces for encounters or activities.

<p>Law 232 of August 27, 2004 has a special meaning to the people residing in some of Puerto Rico's poorest communities. It was the result of the hard work, during a period of a year and a half, of leaders from some of these communities and my students, the students of the community development section of the Legal Aid Clinic of the University of Puerto Rico’s School of Law. The story of Law 232 can provide insight into what the role of a lawyer can be in the battle against poverty. To understand the story of this Puerto Rican law, one has to go back to August of 2002. During that month the University of Puerto Rico's School of Law Legal Aid Clinic inaugurated its community development section.</p>

Technologicaly advancements have facilitated work, both directly and indirectly. This has changed the lifestyle of the people, especially the millennial generation in Jakarta. Not a few generations often changing jobs, which are not closed in the current generation according to their individual needs. Millennial generation approved balance as one of the things seen in the agreement of life. Inter-Creative Studio is a space that provides a more interactive, creative and flexible work space in the creative economy in the multimedia sub-sector to enhance creativity and economy. Inter-Creative Studio is designed with the aim of providing a place to work independently for the millennial generation by paying attention to the life balance of workers. Through trans-programming that combines creative work and entertainment programs as a whole in the design creates the same space with the integration of changing usage times. The existence of the facade concept gives expression to architecture with a combination of melody and rhythm and the concept of height differences in design as creativity and spatial space in architecture with lighting, materials to building form.AbstrakKemajuan teknologi telah mempermudah pekerjaan, baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Hal ini telah merubah gaya hidup masyarakat, khususnya generasi millenial di Jakarta. Tidak sedikit generasi milenial berpindah – pindah pekerjaan, yang tidak menutup kemungkinan bahwa generasi milenial berjalan sesuai dengan kebutuhan masing – masing. Generasi millenial mendefinisikan keseimbangan sebagai salah satu hal yang dilihat dalam menjalani kehidupan. Studio Antar – Kreatif merupakan sebuah wadah yang menyediakan ruang bekerja menjadi lebih interaktif, kreatif dan fleksibel dalam bidang ekonomi kreatif di sub-sektor multimedia untuk meningkatkan kreativitas dan perekonomian. Studio Antar – Kreatif didesain dengan tujuan menyediakan wadah bekerja mandiri bagi generasi milenial dengan memperhatikan keseimbangan hidup kaum pekerja. Melalui trans-programming yang memadukan program bekerja kreatif dan hiburan sebagai satu kesatuan didalam sebuah desain menciptakan sebuah ruang yang sama dengan intensitas waktu penggunaan yang bergantian. Adanya konsep fasad memberikan ekspresi terhadap arsitektur dengan kombinasi melodi dan ritme serta konsep perbedaan ketinggian lantai dalam desain sebagai gambaran kreativitas dan spasialitas ruang dalam arsitektur dengan pencahayaan, material hingga bentuk.

Purpose Crises of any type have become an integral part of business activity and responses to them could make the difference between survival and failure. This applies in particular to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Taking the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as a starting point, this study aims to investigate how Peruvian SMEs have been coping with COVID-19 so far. Based on that a conceptual framework is proposed which highlights the practice of SMEs trying to deal with a new type of crisis. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on an exploratory qualitative research design involving 25 semi-structured interviews conducted in Peruvian SMEs. Findings The findings demonstrate how the Peruvian firms studied to adapt to the new situation and initiate responses to increasing the chance of survival. Furthermore, the role of the companies’ decision-makers, as well as the role of crisis management and other related approaches in the companies are shown. Research limitations/implications The paper expands the underdeveloped body of knowledge regarding crisis management in Latin America in general and crisis management in SMEs by providing insight into how Peruvian SMEs perceive and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. Practical implications The findings presented in this paper have implications for both managers and managerial staff of SMEs but also for the people in charge of the curricula at universities and other teaching-focused institutes. Originality/value To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first empirical study of crisis management on the impacts of COVID-19 with a dedicated focus on SMEs from Latin America. It provides fresh insight into current reactions to the Pandemic.
