IntroductionIn Portugal, a new National Mental Health Plan has been launched with the following objectives: equal access to care, decentralisation of mental health services and integration of mental health services in the general health services. In order to change the operational model for mental health teams, a case-management training program has been launched by the Ministry of Health.ObjectivesThis study aims to evaluate: a)the feasibility of implementing the program on a national level,b)the quality of the training program andc)the satisfaction of the trainees.MethodsThe study was carried out at 36 public mental health services in mainland Portugal. The professionals attended a case management course (SAMHSA procedures), in which they were trained by means of guidelines, demonstrative audios, scenarios and role-playing. The assessment was conducted with a questionnaire addressing logistics, program content, acquisition of skills, usefulness and overall satisfaction.Results135 professionals from the whole country have been involved. The trainees’ acquisition of competences was found rather satisfactory. Results of the training were impressive regarding satisfaction and motivation of the trainees (69% were highly satisfied). Dimensions such as organization (35% highly satisfied, 52% satisfied), program content (41% highly satisfied, 43% satisfied), practical skills gaining (35% highly satisfied, 58% satisfied) and usefulness (58% highly satisfied, 31% satisfied) were also very well rated.ConclusionsOf upmost relevance, it was possible to implement a case management training program at a national level, with no particular difficulties. The impact of courses on trainees was overall impressive.

Purpose: Research training for clinicians is becoming relatively common for postdoctoral trainees in academic institutions. In contrast, there are relatively few such training programs for family physician residents. The purpose of this article is to describe a novel program for family medicine trainees in Maccabi Health Services, a large Israeli health fund. Methods: Following organizational approval and budget allocation, a call for family residents resulted in 18 applications, 15 of whom were selected for a two-year research training program. Each trainee submitted a research proposal, dealing with a community- based research question. Each protocol was allocated a budget. The Program, overseen by a steering committee of family physicians and scientists, has a designated clinical epidemiologist who coordinates all activities. The Project runs monthly face-to-face meetings where trainees present their research proposals. The group reviewed the protocols ahead of time, commented on them and criticized them. In parallel, the trainees participate in a detailed discussion of their research proposals face-to-face with the program director and clinical epidemiologist, and the revised research proposal is submitted to the Institution Review Board. Results: The Program received enthusiastic responses from the trainees and from Maccabi Health Services, which has already approved the budget for the second year of the Program with a new stream of trainees. The approved research proposals dealt with original and important community-based clinical questions. Conclusions: With the aim of developing clinician-researchers in the field of family medicine, this novel program will help change the research climate in a large organization, where community-based family practitioners were not typically involved in research.

ABSTRACT Preparation is key to dealing with the rising number of disasters occurring globally. Teams may be inexperienced, but they cannot be inadequately prepared. Rescue providers must be equipped with knowledge, skills, equipment, and supplies to manage the complex demands of a disaster. To bridge the gaps in disaster management training, the Singapore Health Services, in collaboration with the University of Hasanuddin, developed a tailored training program for the teaching of medical support at the disaster site in Indonesia. This project was conducted in Makassar for participants in the province of South Sulawesi. Over the 2-year period, the project benefitted 301 participants, with 73 identified to become Master Trainers to take over local ownership and leadership of the program. The Master Trainers would continue the training of new participants, as well as work within their agencies and with each other to bring about changes to significantly improve disaster management in Indonesia.

Turkey is a country that embraces many migrants from Africa and the Middle East especially in the last 10 years due to its geopolitical position. The number of Syrian refugees in Turkey as of February 2019 is reported to be 3.644.342. In particular, benefiting from the most basic human rights such as nutrition, education and health of migrants is an issue given the importance by the Republic of Turkey. In this context, important cultural differences arise for the immigrants. Language is an important obstacle to access to health services, especially in Arabic speaking patients. In order to facilitate access to health services and to improve the quality, a project has been developed covering the training and employment of medical interpreters and patient guides by the Turkey’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization. With this project, 960 medical translators were employed and trained 2016 to 2019. The research provides an evaluation covering the training phase of this project. In this context, the aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the training program. In the study, an interactive training program, including medical terminology, health sector organization of Turkey, communication skills and medical ethics was implemented to the bilingual interpreters and patient guides. Participants completed a 50-question pre-test and post-test designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the training. Training was deemed successful as all participants scored higher on the post-test than the pre-test. The results obtained from the research include important lessons that guide the planning of similar trainings.

Abstract: The internship program is a preregistration professional training program that has to be undertaken by each new graduate medical doctor, educated with a competence-based curriculum. After passing the competence test, the candidates for the internship program, whether civil servants or not, have to pesonally complete their application papers in order to start their professional training programs at the appointed medical health services, eg. a hospital.  Since every hospital has different conditions, the medical comittee and the head of the hospital have to prepare the appropriate clinical privileges for the internship doctors. A good clinical appointment will protect the internship doctors while finishing their professional training, and also protect the hospital from any unnecessary risks. Keywords: internship program, clinical privilige.  Abstrak: Program internsip adalah tahap pelatihan keprofesian pra-registrasi yang harus dijalani setiap dokter baru yang dididik dengan kurikulum berbasis kompetensi (KBK). Pasca kelulusan ujian kompetensi dokter Indonesia (UKDI), calon peserta internsip ikatan dinas maupun mandiri wajib mengurus kelengkapan administratif guna melaksanakan tugas keprofesiannya di sarana pelayanan kesehatan, salah satunya rumah sakit. Kondisi rumah sakit yang berbeda satu dengan yang lain, membuat komite medis bersama pimpinan rumah sakit harus membuat kajian clinical privilige yang tepat untuk para dokter internsip. Clinical appointment yang tepat akan melindungi dokter internsip dalam menyelesaikan pelatihan keprofesiannya, dan melindungi rumah sakit dari resiko hukum yang tidak perlu.Kata kunci: Program internsip, clinical privilige.
