The passion fruit is one of thefruit that has been gaining more prominence in the fruit sector because it is widely used in food, pharmacology and ornamentation. Its cultivation in the northeastern region of Brazil presents some limitations due to the organic matter content of the soiland / or the use of water of high salinity in some properties. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different types of manure and the interaction with different saline levels of irrigation water.The statistical design adopted was a randomized complete block design with 3 x 5 factorial design, with three types of manure (bovine, goat and poultry) and five saline levels (0.3, 1.3, 2.3, 3.3 ; 4.3 dS m-1) with four replicates and one plant per replicate. The data were analyzed using the statistical program Sisvar 5.3.It was concluded that there was no interaction between manure types and saline levels, however, goat manure favored the growth of yellow passion fruit seedlings. On the other hand, the increase in saline levels up to 4.3 dS m-1impaired the growth of all variables up to 60 DAS.

Abstract Brazil is the largest producer of passion fruit worldwide, however diseases have been reducing passion fruit productivity, and limiting its cultivation for several years in a row in the same area. The proposal of this study was to evaluate diseases intensity and productivity of yellow passion fruit in vertical and overhead trellis systems, during two seasons, in annual cycle. The experiment was realized in a commercial orchard of yellow passion fruit in the municipality of Araquari, SC, in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons. The treatments were vertical and overhead trellis systems, tested in a randomized complete block design, with eight replications. The agronomic practices were performed according to the culture recommendations and naturally pollinated althoght no disease control was applied. Anthracnose, bacterial blight, cladosporiosis and passion fruit woodiness severities were assessed in two seasons, from December to June, after establishment of the trellis systems. Production of fruits per plant and estimated productivity were determined in both seasons. There were no differences in diseases severity in both systems and seasons. The overhead trellis system was more productive than the vertical trellis system, 78.1% and 57.1% respectively, in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons. Overhead trellis system showed to be the most adequate for yellow passion fruit production.

In the process of production of seedlings the formulation of substrates that supply the nutritional needs and make available appropriate humidity tenor is relevant for the success and the reduction of costs of the producing with other inputs. In this perspective, it is known that alternative substrates are rich in organic matter, which possesses extenuating action for the harmful effect of the salinity. Therefore, it was aimed at to evaluate the effect of saline waters and formulations of substrates in the production of seedlings of yellow passion fruit plant. Experiment was driven in atmosphere protected in the dependences of the Federal University of Campina Grande, Pombal, Paraíba. The randomized block design was used in factorial outline 5 × 5, being five levels of salinity of the irrigation water (0.3; 1.3; 2.3; 3.3 and 4.3 dS m-1) and five substrates: S1 = soil; S2 = soil, goat manure and bovine manure (1:1:1); S3 = soil and goat manure (3:1); S4 = soil and bovine manure (3:1); S5 = soil, goat manure and bovine manure (3:0.5:0.5). To the 52 days after the sowing the growth analyses and quality of the seedlings were checked. The growth of the passion fruit plant seedlings was inhibited by the salinity in the irrigation water. However, the use of organic inputs in the formulation of the substratum lessens the harmful effect of the saline stress, being the best substratum, soil and bovid manure in the proportion 3:1.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a molecule that can flag plants under biotic and abiotic stress conditions. Among the kinds of stress, the salinity stress is the one that most usually affects plants. Consequently, the purpose hereof was to use hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to mitigate the possible harmful effects of salinity in yellow passion fruit seedlings. We employed a randomized block design, in a 5 × 3 factorial scheme, corresponding to five irrigation water electric conductivity levels (0.3; 1.3; 2.3; 3.3; and 4.3 dS m-1) and three hydrogen peroxide concentrations (0; 5; and 15 μmol L-1), with four repetitions. The treatments were applied foliarly 7 and 15 days after the seedlings’ germination with hand sprayers. Sixty days after sowing, we evaluated the seedlings’ growth and quality variables, which finally proved that hydrogen peroxide mitigates the harmful effect of the irrigation water’s salinity up to 2 dS m-1 in the growth of yellow passion fruit seedlings at the concentration of 5 μmol/L. Nonetheless, excessive concentrations (15 μmol L-1) associated with high salt concentrations were proven detrimental to the seedlings’ phenological growth and quality.

This study was conducted to enhance the growth and yield performance of cacao trees under mature rubber for one (1) fruiting season through the integration of urea and vermicompost. The experimental design was set in factorial Randomized Complete Block Design with a total of 15 treatment combinations. The treatments were three rates of urea (0, 100 and 200 g/tree) and five rates of vermicompost (0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 kg/tree). The trunk circumference, leaf length and width, number of pods developed and harvested, pod and bean character, soil OM%, leaf Nitrogen content and prevalence of pest and diseases were evaluated. The application of 200g urea per tree produced significant increase from 4.86 to 8.44 kg (73.66% increase) in weight of harvested pods and from 23.32 to 26.40 g/pod (13.21% increase) dry bean weight and significant decrease in the pod index from 43.39 to 38.45 (11.36% decrease). Moreover, the heaviest and thickest pod husk was obtained from plants applied with 100 grams urea + 1.5 kg vermicompost. The highest mean number of beans/pod was obtained from trees applied with 100 – 200 g urea + 1.5 – 3.0 kg vermicompost.  The soil organic matter content (%) and leaf N was slightly increased by application of fertilizer treatments. Pod borer infestation and nematode population were significantly affected by application of urea and vermicompost. Application of 100 g urea/tree or 3.5 bags/ha gave the highest return of investment and was the most profitable source of nutrient.

ABSTRACT With this study, the objective was to determine the most economic management of irrigation water applied at different levels in the culture of passion fruit grown in conventional system and in polyethylene bags. The experiment was conducted in the city of Remanso, state of Bahia, Brazil. The experimental set-up was a randomized block design in a factorial design 2 (conventional system, and polyethylene bags of 100 L) x 5 (irrigation levels: 100%, 80%, 60%, 40% and 20% an irrigation management at field capacity) with four replications and four plants per plot. The treatments began 30 days after transplanting the seedlings to the field, and the analyzed variables were: plant height, stem diameter, leaf area and number of tertiary branches, of flower buds and fruits per plant. The data were interpreted by means of analyses of variance (test F) and means were compared by Tukey test at 5% probability of error. It was found that the yellow passion fruit got greater agronomic performance when grown in polyethylene bags, with irrigation management at 80 % field capacity.

The effect of exchangeable cations (H+ and Na+). autoclaving, organic matter, anionic surfactants and temperature on the adsorption of phosphamidon on two different types of Indian soil was studied. The adsorption isotherms for all the effects/treatments were in close agreement with the Freundlich equation and yielded S-shaped isotherms. The amount of phosphamidon adsorbed in all cases was higher in medium black (silt loam) soil than alluvial soil (sandy loam) and was related to the organic matter content, clay content, CaCO3 content, surface area and cation-exchange capacity of the soils. The adsorption on both types of soil follows the order H+-soil > Na+-soil > natural soil at 10°C > natural soil at 20°C > autoclaved soil > organic matter-removed soil > anionic surfactant > natural soil at 40°C, which was in accordance with the Freundlich constant, KF, and distribution coefficient, Kd, values. The adsorption capacity of phosphamidon for organic matter and clay content for both the soils was evaluated by calculating the Kom and Kc values when it was found that phosphamidon adsorption was better correlated with the clay content than with the orgnic matter content on the basis of adsorption isotherms. Various thermodynamic parameters such as the thermodynamic equilibrium constant (K0), the standard free energy (ΔG0), the standard enthalpy (ΔH0) and the standard entropy (ΔS0) changes have been calculated as a means of predicting the nature of the isotherms.

An evaluation of the productivity of degraded alfisols at Makurdi and Otobi, Nigeria, using artificial desurfacing techniques (ADT) was carried out in 2012 and 2013 cropping seasons. The study was a split-split plot experiment arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The soil was desurfaced at 0 – 5, 0 – 10, 0 – 15, 0 – 20 cm and the undesurfaced soil, 0 cm (control) depths. The restorative amendments were 9 t ha-1 of poultry dropping as an organic source of manure, N:P2O5:K2O as an inorganic source of manure and zero application as control. Soybean variety TGX 1448-2E and maize variety, Oba super II were used as test crop. Saturated hydraulic conductivity was significantly (P = 0.05) lower at 20 cm (29.08 cm hr-1 ), but did not differ significantly at 0 to 10 cm depths. Soil pH of 5.58 was recorded at 0 cm depth and it decreased to 5.05 at 20 cm depth. Also, organic matter content (1.71 – 1.00 g kg-1 ), total nitrogen (0.12 – 0.08 g kg-1 ) as well as CEC (7.39 – 6.24 cmol kg-1 ) recorded a significant decrease with increase in soil depth from 0 to 20 cm depths. Application of poultry manure increased total porosity and saturated hydraulic conductivity as well as organic matter content across desurfaced depths. Soybean number of leaves was significantly (P = 0.05) reduced at 4, 7, and 10 WAP with increased topsoil removal. The highest grain yield of soybean (1474 kg ha-1 ) was recorded on poultry manure treated plots which were significantly higher (p = 0.05) than other treatments. Application of poultry manure caused 20 % soybean yield reduction at 5 depth, and a 56 % reduction at 20 cm depth.

Taking different types of sediments as the research object, this research studied the adsorption and release characteristics of phosphorus under different conditions of different temperatures, coexisting heavy metal ion system, organic matter content and sediment particle size. Through used correlation analysis and principal component analysis, it discussed the influence of various factors on the adsorption and release of phosphorus in sediments. The results show that the adsorption of phosphorus by five different types of sediments from different sources reached saturation equilibrium in about 10 hours, and the increasing rates of 0 ℃, 15 ℃ and 30 ℃ are 17.5% ~ 23.7% and 18.2% ~ 38.3%, respectively.  The addition of coexisting heavy metal ion solution accelerated the adsorption of phosphorus in the sediment and reduced the total amount of phosphorus adsorption, that is, heavy metal ions inhibited the adsorption of phosphorus in the sediment; the presence of organic matter in the sediment would reduce its adsorption of phosphorus , Taihu farm and wetland sampling points have the largest sediment organic matter content. Compared with the other three points, the adsorption of phosphorus of these two  points accounted for 20.6% and 22.1%; the adsorption and release of phosphorus by sediment increased with the decrease of particle size. The maximum release rate was 5.216mg/kg-1·h-1. The result of principal component analysis shows that the order of influence on the adsorption and release of phosphorus by sediments is temperature> disturbance> organic matter content> heavy metal ion influence> particle size of sediments.

Abstract The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of irrigation and deep planting of tall yellow passion fruit seedlings in the organic system on fruit quality and productivity. A randomized complete block design with 2x4 subdivided plots, with 8 treatments and 4 blocks was used, with irrigated and rainfed systems being plots and 4 planting depths (0.20 m, 0.40 m, 0.60 m and 0.80 m) subplots. Seedlings aged 90 days and 2 m in height were used. Before planting, all stem leaves were removed from seedlings to be buried and to IBA at concentration of 4,000 mg kg-1 was applied. The number of fruits per plant, average fruit mass and total productivity and of 1st and 2nd crops, as well as total soluble solids (TSS), total titratable acidity (TTA), ratio (TSS/TTA), commercial and equatorial diameter classification were estimated. Irrigated planting at depths of 0.20 m and 0.40 m was more productive in the first crop, but there was no difference in the total productivity and in the second crop. Neither irrigation nor plant depth altered the chemical quality of fruits and commercial classification.
