Narratives, such as films, TV series, novels or computer games, allow us to enter different worlds and adopt the perspectives of the characters they depict. Whether and how this experience influences the audience’s beliefs, attitudes, intentions or behaviour is the focus of narrative persuasion research. This book presents the central theoretical models which explain narrative persuasion, describes the typical methodological approaches used in this field and provides a systematic overview of the current state of research. It concludes by discussing critical theoretical and methodological aspects and delineating current developments in the field. This book is suitable for students of communication science as well as anyone interested in the key concepts, processes and findings of narrative persuasion.

Using the study of cognitive functioning in patients with cardiovascular diseases paper discusses problems of changes in brain activity in patients with somatic diseases related to a main pathology and resulting from surgical treatment. Analysis of the current state of research in this area provided. Based on this analysis, promising areas for further research, such as development of methods for predicting an occurrence and development of cognitive impairment, organization of timely diagnosis of changes in cognitive activity, development of preventive and therapeutic measures, exploring the value of cognitive functioning for treatment adherence. In addition, paper discusses the methodological approaches and main organizational aspects of conducting such studies and indicates the most relevant methods for studying cognitive functioning in a cardiac surgery clinic.

The article focuses on the theoretical and methodological aspects of the style's study in Russian psychology. The history, current state and prospects of developing the problem of a human activity style in the Perm psychological school are considered. The study of style in the Perm Psychological School has a half-century history. At the initial stages in the study of style, the features of the process-dynamic side of the activity of a person who successfully performs it were revealed. Later, in connection with the development of V.S. Merlin's theory of integral individuality, style operational characteristics began to be studied in a system of multilevel properties of human individuality - socio-psychological, personal, psychodynamic, neurodynamic. The article analyzes the structure of the style of human activity, as well as its functions - adaptive, system-forming, developing, etc. In the Perm Psychological School, the style of human activity has received a detailed polysystemic characterization in theoretical and empirical studies conducted under the guidance of B.A. Vyatkin. Representations of the style of human activity were significantly enriched thanks to the L.Ya. Dorfman theory of the meta-individual world. The article outlines promising theoretical and methodological approaches that open up new possibilities for the development of psychological knowledge about the styles of human activity, as well as the practical significance of this knowledge.

This chapter reviews the current state of research on change processes from an institutional perspective. It examines the longitudinal progression of research, illustrating the generative processes that drive change, the patterns of change over time, the mechanisms underpinning change, and its key outcomes. It distinguishes variance and process studies and zooms in on process-based research (i.e., temporal progression of event sequences), discussing implications for organizations, and similarities and differences between theoretical models of change. We conclude by noting that our typology of change pathways situates extant research to reveal important blind spots in the literature that require more systematic attention.

Purpose: This paper is a thematic literature review to examine the current state of research about Culturally Responsive Pedagogy in mathematics. The main themes are students’ perception, teacher education for pre-service teacher and professional development for teachers. Research methods/ approach: Literature was collected from Eric, which is a research engine of the education field. Also, Google Scholar is used to find articles of major scholars introduced by Dr. Rich Milner, who is the instructor of this course. Findings: Students faced microaggressions in mathematics class, which discouraged them to learn mathematics. The effect of teacher education was inconsistent in terms of the awareness of culturally responsive pedagogy and lesson plans. Research of professional development mentioned that mathematics was cultural. Implications for research and practice: It is more interesting to conduct long term or follow-up research to find the teacher’s practice after a taking professional development program. Also, it is critical to expand research scope besides African American and Latino students. Finally, evidence-based research is needed to change the political situation. The collective monograph is devoted to discussing the history of creation, studying the properties, neutralizing and using organophosphorus neurotoxins, which include chemical warfare agents, agricultural crop protection chemical agents (herbicides and insecticides) and medicines. This chapter summarizes the main parameters of coalitional presidentialism and the key concepts, definitions, explanatory frameworks, indicators, and propositions. It summarizes our understanding of coalitional presidentialism; the distinction between coalition formation and maintenance; the definition of coalitions; the multidimensional understanding of coalition management (the ‘presidential toolbox’); and an analytical framework that emphasizes the motivation of presidents to achieve cost minimization under constraints determined by system-level, coalition-level, and conjunctural factors. It also summarizes our main empirical findings: (1) the characteristics of presidential tools, (2) the substantive patterns of their deployment, (3) the factors that shape the costs of using these tools, (4) the actual (observed) costs of using them, and (5) the potential for imperfect substitutability of these tools. Finally, it concludes with some reflections on the current state of the research on comparative presidentialism.

Olfaction, the sense of smell, is characterized by a notable age-dependency such that aging individuals are more likely to have poor olfactory abilities. These impairments are considered to be mostly irreversible and as having potentially profound effects on quality of life and food behavior, as well as constituting warning signs of mortality, cognitive dysfunction, and dementia. Here, we review the current state of research on aging and olfaction, focusing on five topics which we regard to be of particular relevance for the field: nutrition and health, cognition and dementia, mortality, environment and genetics, and training-based enhancement. Under each of these headlines, we provide a state-of-the-art overview and discuss gaps in our knowledge which might be filled by further research. Understanding how olfactory abilities are diminished in aging, and how they may be alleviated or recovered, involves a set of challenging tasks for researchers in the years to come.
