This research was conducted to analyze the content of Fe, Cu, Cd, Cr, and Pb in several species of fish taken from three lakes that are close to the disposal of industrial waste in Indonesia. The fish samples were taken from three lakes, namely, Muara Angke, Weda, and Morowali. The samples from Morowali were analyzed in April 2019, those from Weda from November to December 2019, and those from Muara Angke in June 2018. All the samples were then analyzed at the Chemistry Laboratory of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, University of Indonesia, and the Integrated Laboratory of IPB. The main results showed that all types of fish from Morowali and Weda were no longer safe to consume because they contained Fe, Cu, Cd, and Cr exceeding the threshold of metal contamination. Meanwhile, all types of fish from Muara Angke, except for ayam-ayam, are still safe for consumption. The results of this study can be a source of information regarding metal content in fish and fish feed for safe consumption. Given the high consumption rate of fish and the hazards of heavy metals on humans’ health, such research must be furthered.

Abstract The growth of aquaculture sector is strongly dependent upon the continuous supply of inexpensive fish feed with balanced nutritional profile. However, fish meal (FM) is unable to satisfy this demand due to its scarce supply and high cost. In order to test the potential of cottonseed meal (CSM) as a fish meal replacer, a feeding trial of 12 weeks was conducted to check growth performance and proximate composition of Labeo rohita fingerlings. The protein ration of the test feed was satisfied by replacing FM with CSM at 0, 25, 50 and 75%. Sixteen test diets viz., TD1 (control), TD2, TD3, TD4, TD5, TD6, TD7, TD8, TD9, TD10, TD11, TD12, TD13, TD14, TD15 and TD16 were supplemented with citric acid (CA; 0 and 2.5%) and phytase (PHY; 0 and 750 FTU/kg) in a completely randomized design with 3×3 factorial arrangement. The highest weight gain (11.03g), weight gain% (249.21%), specific growth rate (1.39) and best feed conversion ratio (1.20) were recorded by fish fed with TD12. Furthermore, the same level increased the crude protein (59.26%) and fat (16.04%) being significantly different (p<0.05) than that of control. Conclusively, the addition of acidified phytase (CA; 2.5%, PHY; 750 FTU/kg) in TD12 (CSM=50%) led to the improved growth and proximate composition of L. rohita fingerlings.

A feed is one of the components that supports a cultivation business activity, fish feed must have good nutrition, especially a source of protein. Sources of protein for fish feed ingredients are generally imported, such as peanut meal and fish meal. Utilization of fishery and industrial waste as fish clothing is an effort to overcome the relatively high cost of feed. This study aims to determine the effect of adding formulations on the chemical properties of industrial waste-based catfish feed. The results showed that the more fish meal formulations that were added could increase the protein content in a range of 22.90% -39.90%, fat 5% -7.70%, and ash 5.79% -11.36%. The carbohydrate content decreased with a value range of 33.87% -57.08% and water 7.14% -12%. Fish feed formulations that are close to the SNI for catfish feed are found in treatment P1 with 39.90% protein content test results; water 7,18%; fat 7,7%; Ash 11.36% and carbohydrates 33.87%.

Background: There is a scope of increasing the aquaculture production by use of fish feed produced from non-conventional ingredients and also improvement in the quality of feed by solid-state fermentation. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of solid-state fermented aquafeed on growth performance, digestive enzymes and innate immunity of rohu, Labeo rohita.Methods: Fish feed containing sesame oil cake and mahua oil cake was fermented through solid-state fermentation by yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and then compared with a non-fermented control feed with the same formula.Result: Solid-state fermentation increased crude protein (CP), decreased crude fibre (CF) and also lowered (p less than 0.05) anti-nutritional factors (ANF) of fish feed. After five months of experimental feeding, weight gain and digestibility of nutrients like dry matter, crude protein and ether extract were significantly higher (p less than 0.05) and feed conversion ratio was significantly lower in fish of fermented feed fed group than the control group. Furthermore, non-specific immune parameters such as lysozyme, myeloperoxidase and haemolytic activities and intestinal enzyme activity of fish fed with fermented feed increased significantly (p less than 0.05) compared to fish fed control feed. It is concluded that feeding of Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermented feed could improve the growth, digestive enzymes activity and immunity of Rohu, Labeo rohita.

Experiments were conducted maintaining under aquarium and pond conditions using feed containing medicinal plants/extracts was evaluated on artificially and naturally infected fish with bacterial pathogens. When the fish were exposed to high bacterial pathogens Aeromonas hydrophila Ah-11, Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf-13 and Edwardsiella tarda Et-70, recovery of the infected fish varied with the pathogens challenged and feed treatments. Fish feed containing bulb extract of Allium sativum (3% feeding) showed significantly (p<0.01) high therapeutic effect recovering the infected fish (Thai silver barb, Barbodes gonionotus) with A. hydrophila (100 ± 0% recovery) and P. fluorescens (90±0% recovery). A similar result was observed in the case of pangas fish feed containing decoction of leaves of Calotropis gigantea where 100 ± 0% E. tarda infected Thai pangas (Pangasius hypophthalmus) were found to be cured. These two types of herbal feed offered similar result when applied to the naturally ulcer-affected Thai silver barb and Thai pangas fingerling under aquarium condition. In pond condition, the herbal feed containing bulb extract of A. sativum was applied experimentally to A. hydrophila infected different fish species maintained in different individual ponds where, 91.67 ± 2.35% Thai silver barb, 84.99 ± 2.35% Rui (Labeo rohita) and 74.99 ± 2.35% Mrigal (Cirrhinus cirrhosus) were found to be recovered. In contrast, plants mixed pangas feed containing decoction of leaves of C. gigantea was cured 94.44 ± 3.84% E. tarda infected Thai pangas.
