The environmental problems accompanying concrete come from cement. This means that the final product i.e., concrete is an environmentally sociable material by itself. This guides us to play on the concrete constituents which cause the largest environmental impact, which is cement. Therefore, if we can abate cement amount and increase cementing materials which can substitute cement for concrete, we will be able to minimize the concrete impact on the environment. The saving of cement quantity in concrete can be realized by substituting it with diverse extra cementitious materials which are a by-product of another industry and waste of agriculture.

Although wool is a natural renewable fibre with a relatively low environmental impact for its production, a number of functional finishes are commonly applied to improve wool’s performance in knitted or woven garments or carpet. These finishes include those to improve fabric shrink-, flame- and insect -resistance, photo-stability and a number of treatments to improve wool carpet performance. The paper describes currently used treatments, their environmental problems and considers new, more environmentally -friendly alternatives under development.

Water Absorption and Quality of Eco-Friendly Container Waste from Newsprint and Organic Materials Abstract. Organic seedling containers was produced from organic materials. Organic materials used can be waste, so it can help overcome environmental problems in handling waste. On the other hand, the use of organic seeding containers makes the containers more friendly and has greater advantages compared to polybags made from plastic. This study aimed to determine the water absorption and durability of Environmentally Friendly Semi-containers (EFSC) in greenhouses and fields. The design used in this research was complete randomized design with 2 factors. The results showed that water absorption was 171.04% -223.69%, with the highest value found in Ab (100% pulp + 8% glue) treatment and the lowest was in Ac treatment (100% pulp + 12% glue). Using 100% newspapers showed a stronger WSRL compared to other treatments.

Firms have an unfavourable effect on environmental problems that severely threatens the ecological balance. In this context, firms' responsibility must be heavy on environmental problems. In the last two decades an approach guiding firms' socially beneficial activity as well as profitably activity has emerged. Accordingly, many firms launched marketing campaigns in order to claim themselves environment friendly. But it is not possible to say all of these campaigns reflect the facts. Some firms conduct greenwashing campaigns, which means misleading activity in order to persuade external stakeholders and consumers to appear more environmentally friendly than they actually are. In this chapter, the authors explain the effect of greenwashing advertisements on organizational culture using findings of previous studies as evidence. Organizational image, greenwashing concepts, and factors that drive firms' greenwashing activities are explained and then the effect of green advertisements on organizational image is revealed through previous studies' findings.

Understanding the thermal properties of a construction material is necessarily to evaluate its heat transfer resistance that has a major contribution to the energy-efficiency required to achieve sustainable structure. Thermal properties are evaluated through three main parameters namely: thermal conductivity, thermal resistivity and thermal transmittance. The aforementioned parameters are commonly referred as K-value, R-value, and U-value respectively. Recent regulations by Dubai municipality enforced to use sustainable concrete in construction. This is by replacing cement with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), such as grand granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and fly ash. The use of grand granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) at relatively high percentage replacement became a typical practice in ready-mixed concrete industry in Dubai. As such, it is essential to characterize the thermal properties of this sustainable concrete. The current paper investigates the thermal properties of sustainable concrete mixtures incorporating supplementary cementitious materials, air entrainment additives, polypropylene and hybrid synthetic fiber. K-value, R-value and U-value are evaluated in accordance with ASTM C518. Additionally, hardened density of all investigated mixtures are measured. The results show that the foamed concrete has better heat transfer resistance than that for the non-air entrained mixture.

When doing the right environmental thing makes what you are trying to accomplish more costly or more difficult, information alone is insufficient to prioritize environmental benefit. In some cases information can even backfire: people faced with graphic information of intractable environmental problems may come to feel that their actions would be insignificant or the problem is hopeless, and therefore stop making choices to minimize environmental harm. Information can nevertheless play a useful role in behavior change, especially for people who are already motivated to avoid environmental harm. Information that helps people make informed choices about which alternatives are preferable. Providing feedback to people about their own behavior or prompts to remind them to do things they would like to do can also motivate action. The effect of information in motivating environmentally friendly behavior is, nevertheless, modest.

This book will disappoint readers who expect an historical study of the environmental impact of Americo–Liberian settlement. It is, rather, a polemical survey of the environmental problems which have beset Liberia and a normative prescription for Liberia's environmental and political future.

The relevance of the study is due to the need to eliminate the environmental problems associated with the irrational use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture. Biohumus is an environmentally friendly natural fertilizer, which is produced by processing food waste ringworms, whose natural habitat is compost mass and not mineral soils. Thus, the production does not violate the flora and fauna and at the same time is environmentally friendly and waste-free. Practical significance of the study consists in the development of measures, the implementation of which will allow solving environmental problems caused by the irrational use of chemical fertilizers. As part of the study, the authors proposed using biohumus as a natural fertilizer, which allows, on the one hand, reducing the chemical effect on the soil cover, reducing the chemical elements content in finished agricultural products, eliminating the plants treatment with pesticides, and on the other hand, increasing the natural yield, developing immunity in plants of various species, and improving the physical properties of the soil layers.
