In a perfectly integrated market local demand has no impact on the formation of market price, since changes in local demand cause price equalization in the market through efficient allocation of resources (Pareto efficiency). Information is crucial to market performance and integration as market agents cannot explore arbitrage opportunities in its absence. This paper tests the impact of introduction of agricultural market information system (via SMS service which provides information on prices of agricultural items in different markets) on observed degree of market integration in agro-food market in Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H), pre and post the service. Degree of market integration is measured as the extent that local demand has on formation of prices in the market pre and post introduction of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) service. The methodology assumed tests the Law of One Price, while taking into account transportation costs and concludes thatintroduction of the ICT service in agro-food market in Bosnia & Herzegovina has increased the level of market integration. It is shown that the impact of the local demand onto formation of the local market price has decreased after the introduction of the ICT service. The results suggest that ICT may have a significant role in tackling information asymmetry and consequently promote market integration. This is a pilot assessment that covered only 16 months of daily price, so for the purpose of drawing conclusions with additional precision, it must be noted that there exists a need to broaden the study further to cover larger period of time.

Using field surgveyed data from two apple production belts in China, this study estimates the impact of transaction costs on smallholders’ market participation and integration. The analysis is based on an innovative measurement of the transaction costs and a disaggregated analysis of sales, information, negotiation, and monitoring costs. The results reveal that farmers’ market participation levels are mainly determined by the proportional transaction costs and price, while their market integration depends on the fixed transaction costs and price. This suggests that, to lower the transaction costs and enable specialization and market participation, it is necessary to invest in and construct adequate farming infrastructure, update the rural information system, improve the structure of farmer households, and subsidize specialized rural cooperative organizations.

Urban rail transit has strong transportation capability, but little environmental pollution. Besides, it also saves land resource. These advantages make the urban rail transit gradually becomes an effective measure to solve city traffic problems. In order to analyze the impact of the scope and extent of urban rail transit on the real estate, this paper first introduces the composition of real estate market information system, explains the process of how the urban rail transit influences the value of real estate by taking the 1st project of line 1 of Zhengzhou urban rail transit in Henan province for example, finds the semi logarithmic model which has the best regression effects with three hedonic price models and the collected data from the real estate market information system, and finally works out the added value of real estate generated by the above urban rail transit.

Access to agricultural markets and marketing information are essential factors in promoting competitive markets and improving agricultural sector development. The agricultural sector employs majorities in developing countries and contributes greatly to its development. Unluckily, majorities of the farmers are smallholders living in rural areas and thus, lack appropriate access to markets for their products and also, they are deprived of agricultural market information. As results, farmers are exploited by middlemen who offer low prices for their agricultural produce. This study presents the best way for the agricultural stakeholders to obtain easily agricultural market information service. This study presents a novel agricultural market information system which was implemented using some concepts of crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing allows sellers to broadcast whatever produce they want to sell and customers are allowed to submit their requests using either SMS or web.

Efficiency of commercial activities depends on many factors. One of the tools to study their influence is mathematical modeling. The goal of the study is to conduct a computational experiment that simulates the dynamics of the supplier’s sales volumes in a competitive environment under various initial conditions. We take into account the possibility of changing the price of products (goods), depending on changes in sales volumes. The limitation of the experiment is the conditions of the local market and the presence of the maximum value of purchasing power within it. To conduct an experiment, it is necessary to solve the following tasks: to find out the impact of sales volumes changes caused by competition on changes of the price of products (and the price of products must be calculated according to product aging factor); to consider consumers’ preferences, on which “consumer-supplier” relationships are based and to determine the relationship between the pricing models and the model of competing relations of the “supplier-suppliers” type. To achieve this goal, we employed heuristic methods of simulation modeling and the analogy method (universality). Based on simulation modeling and the method of analogies (universality), we developed a mathematical model as a part of a computational experiment. The former simulates the market price of a product and the dynamics of sales volumes of a supplier, which considers correlation between the market price for products (goods) and their aging factor, as well as consumers’ preferences and pricing model and competing relationship model. The application of the mathematical model developed by the authors allows to take into account many interrelated factors that influence the sales dynamics of market participants in real economic situations.

The government of Malawi in 2004 initiated an ICT-based Malawi Agricultural Commodity Exchange (MACE), a market information service project, to improve access by farmers to market information. MACE was intended to improve the efficiency of agricultural markets as part of the strategy to improve food security. This study uses quantitative methods to examine whether MACE has contributed to efficiency of rice markets in Malawi. It especially tests if MACE has contributed to spatial integration of rice markets. As hypothesized, the study finds that the tendency of rice prices to move together in spatially separated markets has significantly increased since the implementation of MACE. It concludes that ICT-based market information services project enhances linkages between markets and can therefore improve the efficiency with which agricultural markets perform. The study discusses implications of this finding for policy.

What factors have led to the introduction and market growth of synthetic and substitute food products? What will be the impact of an increasing supply of these products upon the food industry's market structure, market performance, market integration and coordination, and consumer behavior? The author discusses the development and impact of synthetic and substitute food products in a broad sense, and he also includes numerous examples of specific commodities and products.

Over the last few years, a strong penetration of Intermittent Renewable Energy Sources (IRES) has been in progress in the Italian power system. In this new framework, the dispatching activity must improve its efficiency to ensure adequacy and security of the national electricity system. European market integration initiatives are making this goal achievable, provided that the coherency of market price signals and reserve procurement at the European level are guaranteed. For this reason, the Italian Transmission System Operator (TSO), Terna, started to investigate the opportunity to align the Italian reserve-procurement approach to the one adopted in most European countries, procuring Replacement Reserve (RR) in dedicated auctions held in advance of the day-ahead market. The aim of this new methodology is to improve the coherency of price signals arising from the integrated European day-ahead market, anticipating potential scarcity conditions, thus helping to keep adequacy standards high. This paper describes the characteristics of a possible new reserve-procurement model based on the European benchmark. Comparative simulations are presented, estimating the impact of the new approach in terms of outcomes and costs of both the energy and ancillary services markets in Italy. The results of this study suggest activation of the reserve auction only in the cases in which the TSO expects a potential risk of simultaneous reserve scarcity across European countries.
